Mario Williams left because he did sufficiently well that the Texans couldn't afford to keep him.

As far as the Titans and Saints being better during that, unless you're going to claim causation, it's not particularly relevant.

The Texans didn't really come out of top of anything when Williams didn't do a thing to make them better and is now playing somewhere else. He was a waste of a #1 overall pick. The Texans will be in for more of the same if they take Clowney and fail to find a franchise QB.

He didn't win a title there, but to say that an all pro defensive end didn't do anything to make them better, or that he wasn't a better choice than two quarterbacks who were flat out busts is just silly.

Calvin Johnson was on an 0-16 team, but ask Andrew Luck if he wishes he had someone half that good right now.

The Texans were 8-8 both years Williams was named All-Pro. They finished last and 3rd place in their divisions those years.

Williams did no more for the Texans than drafting a bust of a QB would have. They didn't win anything with him on the team.

If you prioritize winning, it's obvious the Texans #1 priority is finding a franchise QB. If you prioritize freak athletes over winning, Clowney's your guy.

Not as sold as most on Bridgewater, but he seems like the overwhelming favorite at this point.

I could honestly see Derek Carr making a run at this pick in the offseason, but not sure the Texans want to go that route again, lol.

During the UCF game, whoever was commentating said Bortles is the #1 QB, Manziel 2, and Bridgewater 4th.

So, obviously, they should take Bortles.

Wow.

Still I wouldn't be surprised if the first QB chosen is not Bridgewater.
Wish I had seen Bortles play more this past season.

No way in hell Manziel is chosen before Bridgewater IMO.

Who's the third best QB prospect?

Mario Williams has won just as many championships with the Houston Texans as Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III, Ryan Tannehill, Cam Newton, Jake Locker, Blaine Gabbert, Sam Bradford, Matt Stafford, Mark Sanchez, Matt Ryan, JaMarcus Russell and Alex Smith (at present) have combined with their respective teams.

The last time a quarterback was drafted in the top ten and went on to win a championship was 2004's Eli Manning. In fact, other than the Manning brothers, no quarterback drafted in the top 10 has won a Superbowl as the starter since 1994's Trent Dilfer.

Meanwhile the last time Mario Williams was a pro bowler, that 9-7 season, the team that lead the league in passing was..... the Houston Texans.

If you prioritize winning, you put the best team on the field you can with the best coaching staff you can muster. That can entail drafting a quarterback #1 if the need and value is there, but it can also entail passing on one in favor of someone else. See Smith, Geno. If you prioritize jersey sales, take the quarterback regardless if he's worth the pick.

Andrew Luck has led a team to just a many winning seasons as Williams has been part of.

So the Manning Super Bowls somehow don't count? We're just going to pretend those 3 Super Bowl wins didn't happen? Yeah, no.

Williams wasn't named an All-Pro in 2009

I'm pretty sure I counted the Manning Superbowls.
Williams was a pro bowler in 2009.

He still had Mariota there. So I guess Birdgewater's third now.

Hundley was 5th I believe.

He is almost a 'QB homer' I guess. It might not be a completely invalid thought but he is too stiff at times with his defense.

Man McNair really wants Keenum to get a good look though, they might ride him out another year.
The Texans have a lot of problems though. I don't like their secondary very much(heck one of their premier signings was Ed Reed and he got cut), their kicking game has been awful this year, you gotta look at the RB depth too. Foster has gotten injured quite a bit, Tate is most likely gone after this season, a change in the OL blocking scheme most likely...

Also, I hope the Falcons get the 1st pick so Clowney can be picked first and become a bust

That's probably who they'll pick.

If the Texans get whisenhunt, I would think clowney would be the favorite. whisenhunt hates developing young qbs.

He won as much as Matt Ryan has. o

If they don't trade out I think Teddy is they guy. Manziel and Bortles will make a push for the top spot but I think they go with Teddy.

If you would have told me in August that Houston would have the worst record in the league I would have told you to quit smoking rock! It's crazy how things turn out sometimes.

The Texans still have a very talented team and a QB like Bridgewater will add instant impact. He is a franchise QB IMO. I think he is NFL ready right now and will get the Texans back to the playoffs.

What did it get them? They are still the worst team in the league.

Clowney could be the second coming of Lawrence Taylor or even better but it won't matter if the Texans don't have a quarterback. Get a franchise signal caller and everything else will fall into place. If you don't have one nothing else matters. Don't over-think it Houston.
uhm. If Clowney is better than LT, then he will be the best defensive player in the history of the league and will have revolutionized the game the way LT. I don't think you pass on that.

Especially when one of the chicago QB's could be available and you can grab/trade up for a Bortles or Met.

I'm not going to read through this thread, but has anyone said Derek Carr? Because that would be ******* amazing.
