And that's exactly the problem with Alex Smith, he'll be good enough to win 8+ games in his time with KC but won't be able to win a Super Bowl. The issue with being "just good" is that "just good" doesn't win SB's but takes you out of position to grab a QB who will.
He's better than Joe Flacco. And he is not the reason they lost yesterday, people need to leave him alone.

Yeah, the Chiefs scored 44 points and lost. That's on the D, not Smith.

I'm not saying it's ALL on Alex Smith, but some of the blame has to be on him too. He was bad in the second half, he just was. You can make excuses all you want, but he didn't play well.

This was an entire team letdown. Not just one side, both sides lost this game.

Alex Smith was amazing yesterday and in no way had anything to do with then losing. Overall he is very good but rarely elevates his game to great or elite. You can win games and win playoff games with a good team around him like the Chiefs did.

No dice Brody, Flacco > Smith. Flacco isn't as consistent but he has played at a higher level. He was great last year in the playoffs.

Bad? No way.

Mediocre is fair. A couple mistakes and misses. Also a 3rd down drop and game winner foot out of bounds on 2 good throws to Bowe.

The RB carries in the 2nd half...

K.Davis 3 yards
K.Davis 4 yards
K.Davis 2 yards
K.Davis no gain
K.Davis 2 yards
K.Davis 5 yards
C.Gray 2 yards
D.McCluster 3 yards

None were rushes for a 1st down either.

Yay, more no context stats!

K.Davis 3 yards 2nd and 5
K.Davis 4 yards 1st and 10
K.Davis 2 yards 1st and 10
K.Davis no gain 2nd and 6
K.Davis 2 yards 1st and 10
K.Davis 5 yards 1st and 10
C.Gray 2 yards 1st and 10
D.McCluster 3 yards 1st and 10

So these runs created 2nd and manageable, more often than not. Stayed ahead of the chains.

To be fair, Luck finally pulled his head out of his ass and gave him fewer freebie possessions in the second half, so naturally he didn't look quite as good.

WTF are you blabbing about context?

You are shining a turd defending 2.6 yards per carry.

Smith himself ran for a first down.
Smith put 2 passes on Bowe, on 3rd and 5 and on the 4th down ballgame play.

Yes Smith had a few mistakes/misses as well. But they pale in comparison to the defense being an utter disaster.

If I am coaching this game, I'm chewing off as much clock as I can each drive and that happens by running the football. That's the logical move and running it on 2nd and 6 and getting 4 puts the 3rd and short on Alex Smith, and he didn't convert those either.

It was more Sutton refusing (as he has all year) to make an adjustment to not let the Colts line TY Hilton up with a safety every play. I worried that he wouldn't be able to make adjustments because that was his problem the last time he had a DC job. He completely relies on the talent on his defense and really doesn't even coach.

As soon as a team found a hole in his scheme, every team was able to take advantage of it because he wouldn't or didn't know how to fix it. It became impossible to mask the holes once one of the very best front seven defenders in the NFL got hurt. I'd probably have a tumor if I didn't learn to tune out the Sutton > Crennel people early in the year.

The likes of AJ Jenkins and McCluster running out of bounds on catches didn't help either.

YES. You'd like Smith to of moved the chains some more. But he was in a tough spot of 3rd string RB and WR2 was out. You think they wanted to be trying those back of the playbook for a reason stuff late in the game?
The pass to Sherman for -4. Targeting Fasano outside of the redzone is desperation.

The not so quick WR screen that ended up with a grounding penalty.
So risky with 4 lineman pulling so nobody blocks Mathis or anyone really.
And McCluster took about 2 and a half seconds to even make his break to the middle of the field so there was no lane to throw it to the diminutive dude.

The Colts were down 31-10 by the time Luck threw his first interception. The hole the Colts were in wasn't caused by Luck. They were clearly in comeback mode at that time. Yes, he threw three picks. But he also accounted for 5 touchdowns and effectively willed his team to victory.
