Ford and it's not even close.

He's 6'2, 240lbs, but cat quick with an incredible ability to bend around the edge. From what I've seen he's much faster when exploding from a 3 point stance too.

If you draft him as an every down DE you're going to be sorely disappointed. If you take him as your pass rush specialist I think he's going to create havoc in the backfield.

Ford - like everyone says, line him up wide
Attaochu - To raw for LB responsibilities, but can get to that QB
Crichton - non-stop motor, reminds me of Ninkovich, doesnt have that atheltic 1st step
Murphy - Jut like Crichton, not as athletic to be that pass ush dynamo
Lawrence - Long and fast, will suprise some
Reilly - Yes he is 26 but played DE, OLB, MLB knows hw to strip sack
Chris Smith - He is short yes but what a 1st step an counter moves
Marcus Smith - Another undervalued guy who reminds me of Avril
Clarke - Will be a much better pro than college, but not a pass rush deamon that ths discussion is looking for
Jeffcoat - Meh
Sam - Meh
Lynch - Has the ability just not the desire
Gayle - nice college player
Webster - developmental
Uzo-Diribe - Intriguing practice squad
Giddins - read above

Kareem Martin is a player no one seemed to mention, don't know if he's a 2nd or 3rd rounder at this point though.

Would it help Dee Ford if he weighed in at 255lbs and still showed the burst?

255-260 is far closer to DE size.

Yes. As they say "bigger is better". If he can show some potential to be a 3-down DE it would certainly raise his value to any of the 4-3 teams in the league. It's still worth pointing out that Bruce Irvin went 15th to a 4-3 team with similar size to Ford.

First, Ford is very likely to get drafted in round 1 as an OLBer on a 3-4 team and the poster is asking for 2nd round talent, so Ford shouldn't even get mentioned.
He might be able to play DE for a Cover 2 team if he can add 5-10 lbs and still retain his speed and quickness, their front 4's sell out on the run to get to the passer but a normal 4-3 team cannot play Ford at DE, teams will run the ball down his throat the whole game.

Yeah, but Irvin was drafted to play LB on a 4-3 team not DE. IMO, Ford future lies at LB unless a Cover 2 team takes the risk.

Bruce Irvin is now a full time LB for the Hawks. After being a 3rd down pass rusher in his rookie season.

Dee Ford might have to be a only pass player for his first season in the league, but it's not like he's not going to play. Teams throw the ball 65% of the time. And when they run it's out of 3 WR sets with no FB.

So Ford will be on the field a lot.

I don't know that Ford goes in the 1st round. I love the guy, but I think he's being overhyped right now due to his senior bowl performance. He's frankly just not a fit for every defense. 3-4 teams can't even use him as a base OLB at 243lbs. 4-3 teams can use him as a base LB ala Von Miller, but he's not that type of talent. Even if he shows up in Indianapolis at 255lbs, teams are going to question whether he can maintain that weight.

Reminds me of last year, Arthur Brown was getting hyped up as a potential top 20 pick at this time last year. He put on weight for his pro day, ran like lightning, but didn't go til late 2nd because that weight he put on was not sustainable. Dee Ford is going to be his best at 243lbs. Teams will find a place for him to play if he can get after the passer as well as he's shown. But I don't think he ultimately goes in the top 40 picks.
