When a prospect takes plays off, he is going to get a red flag beside his name and there will always be some doubt as to his motor till he proves himself in the NFL. Are you thinking of Coples? Never had that take on Quinn (though I did have Aldon Smith as the better pass rusher of the two - looking like there is no wrong answer between those two).
I think Clowney had massive impacts on games. And in the NFL, teams won't be able to give him that much attention - unless the team that drafts him has no other pass rushers. For Houston, example, he'll see a lot of 1-on-1's. Teams aren't going to single Watt to double a rookie on a regular basis - even if it is Clowney.
