Yeah after a series of dumb (and questionable, 15 yard facemask?!?! eeeeehhhh....) penalties that put them 5 yards out.
Boldin and Fitz got schooled like they never have been before as a pair. That 49er secondary looked absolutely stellar and we have a mediorce (which is a big upgrade) pass rush to go with it.
The Cards defense looked really good as well, there blitzes got through our line constantly. But, if teams pick up those bltzes...that secondary will be exposed.
The 49ers offense will obviously do better then that game in the future, how much better? Who knows, but if its decent along with that nice defense....we should have a good shot at playoffs.

they weren't really blitzing a ton, I mean we sent Wilson and Dansby on a few but most of it just looked like blitzing because of our 3-4, plus the fact that Dockett was simply dominating Staley, but ill have to watch the game again to see what exactly our D was doing(i'm actually downloading it right now)

Yes, and that had absolutely nothing to do with Leinart staring at his receivers so hard it looked like he was trying to read their mind.

Leinart had alllll day on many plays....and he couldn't find an open receiver. Our pass rush was decent, but certainly not good. Our coverage unit was amazing on Monday, take off your ram-colored glasses and deal with that.
Your two choices are the 49ers secondary played a stellar game or Matt Leinart forgot how to play football over the offseason. You have chosen the latter due to your hatred of praising any team in your own division.

I'm used to seeing 3-4 defenses play and you guys were certainly agressive with your blitzes. You blitzed a significant amount during that game.

7 - 1 Time
5 - 4 times
4 - 16 Times
3 - 5 Times

Haha, wow, such hatred. I never said that Leinart didn't have all day on many plays. I am saying that part of the success of the 49ers coverage is due to an inexperienced QB playing them. If he is staring at one receiver forever that means he is only seeing one receiver, thus only one receiver truly needed to be covered. I am not saying the coverage wasn't good, but very rarily is something in football attributed completely to one unit, in this case the secondary was good and Leinart was horrendous with his progressions, with that combination the pass coveraged looked amazing. As for Leinart forgetting how to play football, when did he become good in the NFL? He hasn't. That's when.

He was never good and I never said he was, but as a rookie he averaged ~230 yards 1 TD and 1 INT per game he played. So he wasn't inept. He knows how to play football, but the 49er secondary baffled him and smothered his receivers.
Leinarts had an extra year in the system and the NFL as a whole, I would imagine he has gotten better. But maybe he is having a 2nd year slump, his receivers were covered regardless.

The Niners are going to see what a real defense looks like next week, instead of the patty-cake sissy fights that pass as defenses in the NFC west.

i don't know, maybe the pass defense but i don't think the rush will hurt. what will cause ben the most pain is when he will get trucked as one of the DBs makes a pick

Big win by the Cardinals, after pulling their usual Monday night shenanigans we nearly blew a 17-0 lead but Rackers makes the game winner with 1 second left
Leinart looked a hell of a lot better 299 Yards, 1 TD, 1 INT & Edge had about 130 yards too, D still looking above average and Boldin got his Grown Ass Man on

Another ugly win by the Niners.
Our defense is ready, our offense is not. If we wanna even play a close game next week, Gore, Davis and co. better step it up.
2 Division wins though, can't complain about that.

San Francisco 2-0
Arizona 1-1
Seattle 1-1
Rams 0-2
This makes me sad.

next week
AZ @ Bal
Cin @ Sea
STL @ TB
SF @ Pitt
STL has the easiest match up but all of these games are winnable, i'd say the hardest will be SF at Pittsburgh

Well, we're going to lose. And the rest may win.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if all four teams lost next week. I think Seattle might have the best shot at a win, but can they score enough points to keep up with Cincinnati?
Good game at the Dome today... or should I say bad game that was still competitive? Anyway, I loved the way the D performed for SF. Some really nice redzone stops, and the team ALMOST had two INTs in the end zone that would have prevented 10 of the Rams points.
As for the O... wow. Not impressed with Hostler at all so far. Smith has looked pretty good, when he's actually had plays called for him, but the O has been of a far to predictable "3 yards and a cloud of dust" variety so far. That's definitely going to need to change next week if SF is going to have a prayer against Pittsburgh.

Oh yeah, the Steelers have never played teams with pass rushes as dominant as the NFC West. Our offense plays against a better pass rush in practice everyday than any team in the NFC West can offer. Not to mention we play in the same division as the Ravens.
