Default Trade Mock

I could only hope for this.......

Few Reasons for this...

1) I was bored
2) I have too much free time
3) Because I can
4) Because someone may read this
5) Because it's this or hang with the girlfriend and watch "O.C.".

So Trade Mock it is.

Pittsburgh is @ 25 overall

1.25 + 4.25

Trade is with Buffalo.

2.15 + 3.7(Balt) + 3.15

With that said, Buffalo really wanted Terrell Thomas, CB, USC.
With Clements leaving and the depth questioned this season, Buffalo wanted to add a top tier Corner to their Repetiore. If he's gone, I think they lean the way of Keith Rivers to play WLB next to Posluszny.

Pittsburgh realizing around their 2nd rounder (2.25) that there really isn't anyone that they're really attracted to....

Mike Tomlin and Kevin Colbert call over to Mikes old stomping grounds with Brad Childress and Rob Brzezinski. They have in mind a trade similar to 2006. They saw a prospect at the tail end of Round 2 and We didn't and decided to offer a similar deal.

Minnesota wants Joe Flacco. Already have drafted a S in round 1 (Kenny Phillips) and a tackle in round 2 (Mike McGlynn)... They propose us this offer.

For Pittsburghs 2nd pick #25, #56 overall. They offer us this package..

Their 2 3rds. #3.19 and #3.10 and #4.19.

Tomlin and Colbert were very interested in working some trades to just a hair out of day one to bring in some youth and developmental talent as the roster is aging terribly in front of their eyes. With those 2 deals worked the Steelers are excited to get to work.

This gives the Steelers:

2.15
3.7
3.10
3.15
3.19
3.25
4.19
5.25
6.25

With that said.

Pittsburgh is on the clock....

2.15(Buffalo):

Chris Williams, LT, Vanderbilt ~ 6'6 315lbs 5.09
http://media.scout.com/Media/Image/33/337418.jpg

Chris Williams is an athletic LT that just needs some minor work. Some say he's lazy. He's extremely gifted Athletically and is the perfect size for a NFL OT at 6'6 315lbs. He's got great lateral speed. His run blocking will need some work, but the tools are there. He falls to round 2 with the surplus of Juniors and the amount of talent at the top of the draft. Falling after Long, Clady, Otah, Oher and possibly Cherilous. He comes in and challenges at RT with a "To Be Named Prospect".

3.7(Balt via Buffalo):

Steve Justice, C, Wake Forest ~ 6'4 290lbs 5.12
http://media.scout.com/Media/Image/42/425086.jpg
Mahan is garbage. He's being payed backup money, so he should not be starting. He doesn't have the strength to hold up at the point of attack. He rarely gets push in the run game. He can't handle DT's one on one, and I just think an upgrade is apparent. Some may say "What do we have with Stapleton". I say forget it. Stapleton may have potential, but Justice is the top rated Center of his class. I think he falls to the top of day 2 because I think Alex Mack of California comes out, and interior lineman don't go very high.

With all that said, Justice provides something that Zierlein wanted very badly last year. That top tier ferocious and massive centerpiece. His strengths fit to what Zierlein wants to develop from the center position... He's a rare athlete for the position. ... Good initial quickness off the snap. ... Reliable shotgun snapper. ... Flashes explosiveness and can generate movement even against much bigger opponents. ... Uses his hands well to engage the defender and play with excellent balance. ... Can turn the defender and seal. ... Rare agility to get out and block at the second level and is especially effective leading screens. ... Reliable pass blocker. Plays with good knee bend and balance. ... Keeps his feet moving and can stay in front of quicker, more athletic defensive tackles. ... Good hand placement and can lock out. Flashes an explosive hand punch. ... Good patience as a pass blocker and keeps his head on a swivel. ... Hard worker who seems to enjoy the extra time in the weight room and film room. ... Makes all of the line calls. His natural nasty demeanor is exactly what Zierlein was asking for.

3.10(Denver via Minnesota):

John Greco, RG/RT, Toledo ~ 6'5 320 5.20
http://toledorockets.net/football/im.../johngreco.jpg
Greco is a man mountain. He possesses great upper and lower body strength. Likely not a LT in the pro's, but certainly has the hand punch and lateral speed to play on the right side. Strong as a bull and loves the weight/Film room.

3 OL in a row, could it be? Yep.

3.15(Buffalo):

Titus Brown, ROLB, Mississippi State ~ 6'3 248lbs 4.69
http://cache.viewimages.com/xc/72235...0A659CEC4C8CB6
Brown is a consistent and powerful pass rusher. He's basically the more gifted James Harrison. Bringing him in as a young guy to get 3-4 Years of backup and situational work, to give us some young legs and to build up our young powerful defensive core.

Guess whats next...

Seriously...

Fine.. I'll tell you..

But it's a secret.

#3.19(Minnesota):
http://media.collegepublisher.com/me...s/76sij73j.jpg
Chase Ortiz, LOLB, Texas Christian ~ 6'3 262lbs 4.77

We're a team thats built on a 3-4 Cover 3 scheme (Or Zone Blitz) with that said, we need energetic and high motored Pass rushers. With No depth at ROLB (When Harrison went down they moved Haggans to ROLB and brought Woodley to LOLB) thats not good for a team with a young core of talent and Superbowl aspirations. With Haggans a Free-agent and his underwhelming production, I hope/assume we let him go. Well lets add another guy to backup Woodley. With Titus/Chase in backup roles.. that gives us 2 talented youngsters backing up our Pro-bowl ROLB and Young LOLB. It's not exactly a bad idea to have 4 guys that could play OLB, under the age of 31 and bring them along slowly. This is what we need. A shot in the arm of talent and youth. Imagine what LeBeau could do with Titus and Ortiz added on the outside? Imagine a 6-0-5 package or something (4 DE's, 2 DT's, and 5 DB's). Arnold Anderson has not shown anything in his 2-3 years with the team to make me think he'll provide depth and a capable starter. In fact he looks more like a ILB. Frazier looks like a ST only player.

With those picks.. did I miss anything? Yeah? Oh snap.. I did. I still have 4 more. W00T.

3.25:

Nick Hayden, LDE, Wisconsin ~ 6'4 310lbs 5.12
20070727_spts_hayden_story
We need DL Depth and Youth. Kirschke is not a world beater and I can't wait for the day I see "Nick Eason(cut)". Nick Eason is a fat guy thats just pushed all over the place.

Hayden is an athletic and thick cut DT from Wisconsin. He's basically cut from the same cloth as Aaron Smith. Hardworking, quick, powerful, high energy/motor. He's a good bit bigger coming out (Smith was 280lbs, Hayden 310). He's been a stable and consistent performer for the badgers for 3 years now. I think he's the guy to come in and slowly take over for Aaron Smith. He'll be a backup playing about 20% of the time, and over the years work up to 75-80% of the plays. He has all the makings of the perfect strongside 3-4 DE.

I know, you're wondering.. what on earth could be next... Well, I'll tell you.

4.19(Minnesota):

Terrence Wheatley, CB/KR/PR, Colorado ~ 5'10 180lbs 4.38

http://cache.viewimages.com/xc/51824...0A659CEC4C8CB6

I made this pick moreso for KR/PR special teams purposes. I'm a big fan of Tracy Porter but I don't think we have the ability to spend such a high pick on a Corner. Wheatley is a very similar player. However, he's more willing to tackle and take on blockers, which is one of Porters downfalls. What he lacks in size, he brings in versatility and heart. I think he'd be the perfect Dime/Slot CB.

5.25:

Jeremy Leman, ILB, Illinois ~ 6'3 240 4.75

The image http://www.netitor.com/photos/school...al/271043.jpeg

Leman is not only a good need pick, but he's also BPA. We could use another young gun in the middle of our LB Core. I think he may come in and start as the ST's guy, but I think if we give him the opportunity, he could be the perfect Buck player in the future. I liken him to a bit slower version of James Farrior. Solid in zone coverage and a big thumper in the run game. I've never seen him run over. I have seen him knock a FB and LT on their ass simultaneously on the same play.

After that, whats left... Mr. Irrelevant Pittsburgh? Sorry this guy isn't really that irrelevant.

6.25:

Johnny Dingle, RDE, West Virginia ~ 6'3 279lbs 4.84
http://blog.syracuse.com/axeman/2007...ackedvswvu.jpg

Dingle played in West Virginias 3-3-5. A variation of the 3-4 Defense. In that defense Dingle played Weakside DE. In playing that he played a similar role to that of Brett Keisel. He played some Rover (He's faster than Foote, Haggans and Farrior in the 40 yard dash). In playing the 3 DL Scheme at WVU, he amassed 8 sacks. I think he could come in and give Keisel some breathers in Nickel/Dime Schemes and will allow us to go with a 3 Man pass rush on 3rd down.

And with that said, Goodnight Steelerland.

Adam Tafralis, QB, San Jose State ~ Challenges St. Pierre
http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/j/msnbc/Co...0p.hmedium.jpg
Xavier Omon, RB, Northwest Missouri State ~ 5'11 220lbs 4.49
http://blogs.scripps.com/trn/j_palmer/MSUweb3.jpg
Jehuu Caulcrick, FB/RB, Michigan State ~ Spends a season on the PS and then Challenges Carey Davis
http://www.michronicleonline.com/art...0Caulcrick.jpg
Tony Burks, WR, Mississippi State ~ Challenges Cedrick Wilson/Willie Reid as the #4
http://media.commercialappeal.com/mc.../25/26d1c.jpeg
Kolo Kapanui, TE, West Texas A&M ~ Challenges Jerame Tuman
http://www.d2football.com/images/pro...apanui_mug.jpg
Eric Bakhtiari, LOLB, San Diego ~ Challenges Chase Ortiz and goes to the PS
http://graphics.fansonly.com/photos/...on/564994.jpeg
Kory Robertson, NT, Virginia Tech ~ Reminds me of a Poor mans Vince Wilfork
http://cache.viewimages.com/xc/56511...0A659CEC4C8CB6
Anthony Hoke, LB, Cincinnati ~ A pure coverage LB.
http://media.scout.com/Media/Image/48/483993.jpg
Jamie Silva, SS, Boston College ~ I think could be a better 5th safety than Grant Mason or Mike Lorello.
http://cache.viewimages.com/xc/78218...4831B75F48EF45
Dexter Jackson, WR/KR/PR, Appalachian State ~ Challenge Terrance Wheatley for KR/PR duties.
http://msnbcmedia3.msn.com/j/apmegas...1-pf.widec.jpg
Dallas Flynn, DE, Northwest Missouri State ~ PS DE Depth.

http://www.tsxdata.com/NFL/mugs/73595.jpg

I used What I believe the Steelers Front Office mold. Major players from Major conferences. Then I added 4 Small schoolers in UDFA + 7 Guys that were overlooked.

Its a tad unrealistic...but i like it. It would definately bring some good young depth. Grade B+ (it would be more, but it'll never happen) =D

I'm not sure that Leman falls to the 5th.
