Default Vikings Offseason

starting with the offense, i'd like us to stick with jackson as our starting quarterback. he hasn't done anything to win himself the job but i'm really not excited about the alternatives. we'd most likely have to give up too much to trade for anderson or mcnabb, the only two players who would be a clear upgrade over jackson. in the end we'll stick with him for better or for worse.

to help jacksons development i would DIE for us to sign jordan gross this offseason. ryan cook has been the clear cut weak link of the offensive line. speed rushers constantly abuse him and his run blocking leaves a lot to be desired. assuming the rt position is addressed, i'm looking for a wide receiver in the first round of the draft. i'm not estatic about this, but desean jackson may be our best option. a speed type player like desean would be a good complement to rice.

defensively there are no major needs. a safety would be nice but is not probable given our draft position. if we were to go defense with our first round pick, the only scenario i could see is a defensive end but no one stands out here, especially considering the depth we have with james, edwards, robison, udeze, ect.

i'm really not confident in brad childress being an effective head coach. to his credit, very few people expected us to do as well as we did this season. if the players respect him for the most part and want him around, then keep him. at this point i'd say there is little chance that he is fired.

There are a few things that need to be addressed in this off season. IMO here are just a few of the things I see that just aggrevate me.

1. Why does it take us so long to adjust to 8-9 man fronts?
2. Is Dwight Smith a viable free safty the guy seems to miss more tackles then he makes?
3. We need T-jack to have receivers he can can count on. I see none either injurys or stupid drops seem to plague all our receivers.
4. How much longer can we put up with stupid fumbles. Two chester Taylor fumbles this year and several last year have killed us. I believe M&M is a better complimentary back to taylor.
5. Is T-jack being overly restrained? the last two second halves where we opened it up he seemed to look alot better.

this offseason we need to aquire Pass rushing specialist a better free safty a true posession receiver even if thats a te. Because we seem to have noone in the middle of the field who wants to make a play.
Players who need to leave
Chester Taylor
Dwight Smith
Troy Williamson
that would free up some cap space and allow us to get either Suggs or peppers and maybe even a Mcnabb

I would love to see us get Suggs or Peppers but our first priority should be an offensive player. I'm not sure who is all available but thats what we need.

Suggs and Peppers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I like trading for McNabb. Just to get T-Jack ready. I think we should put Chester on the trading block to see what we could get.

I personally like the idea of this for an offseason:

1.Trade/cut Troy Williamson
2.Trade/cut Dwight Smith
3.Cut Kelly Holcomb
4.Re-sign Dontarious Thomas
5.Re-sign Tony Richardson
6.Re-sign Mike Doss or Tank Williams
7.Trade 3rd Round pick to Denver for Javon Walker
8.Trade 5th Round Draft pick to Tampa for Chris Simms(would make decent back-up and IMO still has some upside)

Draft:
1.Calais Campbell DE Miami
2.Gosder Cherilus OT Boston College
3.Marcus Griffin S Texas
4.Owen Schmitt FB West Virginia
7.BPA

Then after the draft Trade/Cut Erasmus James

If we dont get a WR on the first day we should go after either bernard berrian or Bryant Johnson through Free Agency
