Default QB Dilemma

So I keep seeing all these posts about drafting Flacco in the 2nd or Ryan slipping down to us and we can't pass him up.. or get Brian Brohm last year he was a lock TOP 5 player and this year (after improving and throwing less INTS in a new system and with less talent) he is a marginal prospect.

Why would we draft a QB ? Not that there isnt Talent.. but where is he going to go ? we are going to carry 4 QB's ??? We don't have John Gruden as the HC do we ? Either we trade Kyle while he still has value and draft a QB or we keep what we have and wait a year... there is Talent coming out next year that is equal to or better and let give Troy a chance to be the future before we fill his head with doubt by doing the typical NFL move bring in the "Prototype" QB our system needs... BS !!! Lets let the guy that did nothing in College but win and put up gaudy numbers against good competition and see what he can do. I am not saying I have been a Troy Smith supporter from Day 1 but not going to knock the guys talent !!

Thoughts anyone ???

I have to agree with you here. Troy showed enough at the end of 07 IMO to deserve a shot at leading this team. I think we stay away from QB in round1 and maybe even round2. CB, DE, OT, are bigger needs IMO.

I've always been a Troy fan, even foolishly thinking we could reach in round 1 last year. I wish we'd cut McNair but that probably won't happen. We have huge needs on defense as far as replacing players in the near future.

Troy Smith is still a huge question mark. He has a long way to go before he starts in the NFL. He showed flashes last season, but also looked lost out there at times. The best QB will win the starting job in camp. I think there is a slight edge towards Mcnair right now.

I think the Ravens need to look at a QB in the either the first or second round. We have one young, raw QB in Smith and 2 veterans that will likely not be here next season. If Matt Ryan is there at 8 he's the Ravens pick. If not we could look at Flacco, Henne, or Brohm in the 2nd.

why draft flacco though? that makes no sense. We already have him on the roster, and his name is kyle boller. Big armed, mobile QB? sound familiar? it makes no sense for us to draft flacco, when cam cameron could just use his time and develop boller, who i still have hope for, seeing he has some of teh best tools in the league at QB.

ryan hasbust written all over him IMO, but saying that, i feel the ravens take him if hes at #8. although, the big hype around ryan is that he has super intangibles...well, troy smith did lead his team to the national championship, and is said to have somewhat of an it factor himself. If it were me, id stick with troy this year. Or kyle. and cut mcnairs injured ***. just someone other then mcnair. hes sooooooooooooo terrible.

and id be livid if we draft a QB at #8. but it could happen.

The only issue is QB carry a HGUE signing bonus and we have no cap room... so if we cut McNair we get hit with the entire bonus ( Apologize for not knowing his contract status exactly) but we have two QB's that are here for one more season (I believe) in Boller and McNair why not use McNair as the trainer for our potential future in Troy Smith and trade Boller in the Hopes we can get a 3rd this year for him.. and stock pile picks we gave up a 1st rder to get him we might as well recoup something from him other than a couple of poor seasons and no off field drama !!!

McNair as least has former MVP credentials that he can help pass on to Troy...wait and draft a QB next year unless Brohm falls to us...

totally agree, we're already stressed for cap as it is id hate to see it aggravated by having to sign a QB for top ten pick money. Plus, i still feel the major reason for why kyle boller wasnt ever effective was because of a lack of confidence. He was never given a chance to ease into the NFL and it showed when he played. If we draft a QB now Troy will feel as if the team has lost faith in him and his game will probably be affected. I dont want to make the same mistake again; the draft class sucks anyways whats the harm in giving troy another year as the undisputed QB. It's not as if a rookie QB would make much more of a difference record wise.

Agreed. Boller and Troy should be given another shot now that we've got Cameron. I wonder if Cameron can mentor Boller into being a top10 qb. Hes got the tools no doubt. IMO Boller and Troy should fight it out in training camp and let McNair take the 3rd string. With that set we've got 3 QB's on the roster and I dont think we'll need a qb until next year when we figure out more about Kyle and Troy. I say draft McKelvin or Rodgers in the first round and still stay away from QB in the 2nd round and draft either a OT or DE.

Exactly ! I don't know about TOP 10 QB from Boller but its a great thought ! I don't know if we go DB in the first rd though.. even though we have a tremendous history with doing so (Reed, C-Mac, Starks) I think we need to grab on of the DE or DT's or trade down and get a WR to Help out our QB's Mason is on the downside and Clayton and D-Will are solid just not great. Be nice to see a guy like Limas Sweed or Harris from Mich St. line up for us and give some explosion to this offense in the passing game to take pressure off Willis...
