But that's more of a question about competition. Hakeem is a better player, he just played in a much stronger era.

Wilt never fouled out of a game. When he had 5 you could drive on him all day and he would just move out of the way. No thank you.

You can't argue with Wilt's numbers because some of his records will never even be challenged, but you have to take them in the context of who he got them against. Hakeem dominated in a league that was slowed down creating far less possessions when competition was much stronger.

1. You'd rather have Wilt Chamberlain foul out of a game than stay in it and score mad bucketz?
2. They allowed a lot more contact back then, so he probably ended up staying in to contest the shot more often than you'd think he would. A lot of people who played back then said he probably blocked like seven, eight shots per game. Don't get your hate on too big now. Plus, no amount of defensive ineptitude could ever make up for a man who once averaged 50 ppg in a season. And he was the second best defensive center of his era.

Was competition stronger? I give you the pace argument, yes. But keep in mind, when Russell and Wilt played in the league together, there were 8 teams. When Hakeem was playing the Ewings, the Shaqs, was he playing them every 8 games or so? And there were a lot of very good centres back then. And they weren't short either. The average height of players back then, measured in sock feet was 6'6". The average today? 6'7". In basketball shoes.
Additionally keep in mind, the reason why athletes are generally better today. Better training habits, more knowledge of nutrition, etc. So you can't just assume anyone could travel back to the 1960s and be as athletic as they are now. And Wilt was just as athletic then as they are now. He was a true freak.

Read Bill Simmons new book and chapter about Chamberlain. There are many quotes about Chamberlain disappearing during crunch time.

Yes players were just as tall back then, but wilt was on a completely different level of athleticism back then, he wouldn't have been nearly as dominant playing against the dream, shaq, david robinson, ewing, zo and co. Because there were a lot of great athletes, just like I don't think Dwight Howard would even be in the top 5 centers if he played just 10-15 years earlier.

It's really refreshing to see a guy like Gallinari excel in the NBA. Everybody thought he was a busted pick and bashed D'Antoni... including most Knicks fans. Funny to see the quick turn around from them after 2-3 games into the season. D'Antoni is a mastermind. Never forget.

Gallinari is one of the best pure shooters I have ever seen. He is money from downtown.

Getting pumped again for the Magic/Pistons.
I'm hoping either Pietrus or Carter are ready to go. I don't want to put the game in the hands of Redick again. The team is better when he goes for 11/3/3 in 25 minutes, rather than when he goes for 25/4/4 in 40.

Yeah, it was absurd how much he got crapped on on the knicks realgm forum, I've seen people seriously arguing that we should have taken DeAndre Jordan 6th overall instead of gallo, except now all of the people who **** on him are just acting like they've always been fans of his.

I was not a big gallo fan until right before that draft when an italian friend of mine sat me down and put on some tapes of gallo he'd gotten from his uncle and made me watch them. Since then I've been a huge fan and think he'll end up becoming a smarter Hedo with better leadership.

D'Antoni is an offensive mastermind. He can't teach defense for ****, or well he refuses to do so.

He is actually done a pretty good job teaching some defense so far in the early part of the season the Knicks actually seem to be trying to play defense and doing it some what well we still aren't a good defensive team by any means but much better then last yr already.

And it's not like his teams in phoenix were bad defensively. When adjusted for pace they were always better than average. Add to that that I've seen him numerous times get very passionate and animated about defense on the sidelines and that's another D'Antoni myth I get annoyed by.

Our assistants are mostly all from Phoneix and Herb Williams who was been with us for a while when we weren't playing that great d before Mike D so i dont know if we should be giving Herb credit for the whole team actually putting effort on D.
