Is Vilma getting unfairly picked on??

I'm refering to the people who are all over him for his comments about dogfighting and horseracing.

I honestly think people are just looking for a way to harass him. Can no one else see that they are in a way both animal abuse but one is socially acceptable? Having a person ride u smacking ur ass as hard as they can would be concidered cruel (and is by some) but since it has been that way for ages it is acceptable.

Now i am not saying dogfighting should be acceptable, far from it. I think dogfighting is horrible and should be against the law, and i wish such acts didn't happen. But then again, i'm against all forms of animal cruelty.

I believe thats what Vilma was saying, that in a way they both abuse animals, only society approves of one form and not the other, and that although dogfighting is obviously wrong, its funny one is acceptable and the other isn't.


But i could be viewing this wrong, or missing something. and hey, i'm a huge Vilma fan. tell me, am i looking for a way to let him off the hook?? or am i right and people are taking it a little harsh on him??

PS Portis' comments were 10 times worse and i haven't heard to much on him being bashed, but i could just be missing them

when i heard the interview live, i thought that Vilma was kind of surprised with the questions that Russo was asking him and he hadn't really prepared any responses so he went with the ones that would sound politically correct for all parties, but he just said something stupid, he's brighter than that.

i didnt think he said anything really bad at all. he seemed uncomfortable with the question in general and like milkman said tried to have an answer that wouldnt leave people hanging out to dry but not condone it.

i dont think he has gotten to much from it though has he?

i read it somewhere online that he was getting questioned in NY. and i'm in Canada and there was even a small blurb on it in the newspaper. So i might be thinking he is and he might not be, but the fact that i heard it at all based on what he said is what suprised me.

I agree, he tried to make a general comment and not take a side, when it appears that people are trying to pick on him for not taking the 'i'm totally against it' side

To me it kind of seemed like he was just saying that both were cruel and neither was right. It didn't really make much sense to say as he kind of said it was okay, but it wasn't nearly as bad as people are making it out to be.
