Do you remember how back in the day, all our teachers told us we needed to learn how to do all this math by hand because we wouldn't be able to carry a calculator around with us at all times? Freaking liars.

It's true but let me tell you how horrid it is to try to do mathematics with a kid that never thought it was important to learn the basics.

Most of us learned these basics being promised we'd need them. Those that don't learn them are utterly hopeless without the crutch of electronic calculation.


I'm telling you, your perspective on youth changes drastically when a 17 year old kid, whom thinks very highly of themselves, asks you which side of the map is west and which is north.

I remember when I first learned matrices I was totally thinking that it was the most useless subject that I had ever learned. I'm pretty sure I use them in every class now, except a computer program does them for me.
