S2C's SEC Football Predictions with Power Rankings
Here I will submit my SEC Predictions and Power Rankings over the next 2 weeks. I predicted every game for every SEC team with some real shockers.
SEC Power Rankings
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6. Arkansas Razorbacks 9-3 (5-3)
No, Houston Nutt. You were not dreaming. Your offseason really did happen; this is not a nightmare. Your former offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn really did leave your program and blue chips QB Mitch Mustain (transferred to USC) and WR Damien Williams left your program following their HS coach, Malzahn. Yes, some nutty Arkansas fan made a 48 page report documenting your cell phone call history and alleged scandals. But ,Mr. Nutt, you return the underrated 6’6 220 All-SEC WR Marcus Monk and All-World RB Darren McFadden. Marcus Harrison is looking to turn heads next year and bring more respect to the defensive side of the ball for the Hogs. This team still has a lot of talent despite a few NFL departures. Fayetteville is going to be a warzone in 2007.
Sept. 1 vs. Troy: W
Sept. 15 @ Alabama: W
Sept. 22 vs. Kentucky: W
Sept. 29 vs. North Texas: W
Oct. 6 vs. Tennessee-Chattanooga: W
Oct. 13 vs. Auburn: L
Oct. 20 @ Ole Miss: W
Oct. 27 vs. Florida International: W
Nov. 3 vs. South Carolina: W
Nov. 10 @ Tennessee: L
Nov. 17 vs. Mississippi State: W
Nov. 24 @ Louisiana State: L
Overall: 9-3 (5-3)
7. Kentucky Wildcats 8-4 (4-4)
Believe in Loyalty. Believe in Hard Hits. Believe in Leadership. Those are the slogans of 30+ billboards promoting the 2007 of Wildcats football in the Bluegrass State. And that is what this team is going to have to do if they want to get over the hump and beat one of the many perennial powerhouses on their schedule…BELIEVE. This team returns Andre’ Woodson, a darkhorse Heisman candidate who wants to show the world he belongs on the big stage. Former Def. Coordinator Mike Archer left for N.C. State, and Head Coach Rich Brooks hired DBs Coach Steve Brown to replace him. Brown promises a faster, more aggressive defense than last year’s anemic effort (at least earlier in the season). As far as a sleeper player on UK’s team, watch out for RS Soph CB Trevard Lindley, who has great cover skills and 4.4 speed.
Sept. 1 vs. Eastern Kentucky: W
Sept. 8 vs. Kent State: W
Sept 15. vs. Louisville: W
Sept. 22 @ Arkansas: L
Sept. 29 vs. Florida Atlantic: W
Oct. 4 @ South Carolina: W
Oct. 18 vs. Louisiana State: L
Oct. 20 vs. Florida: L
Oct. 27 vs. Mississippi State: W
Nov. 10 @ Vanderbilt: W
Nov. 17 @ Georgia: L
Nov. 24 vs. Tennessee: W
Overall: 8-4 (4-4)
8. Alabama Crimson Tide 6-6 (3-5)
Are Tide fans looking forward to next season? You could say that.........evidenced by the 90,000 that showed for the annual spring game to see Nick Saban work his magic. They return 9 starters on offense including the best offensive lineman in the SEC in LT Andre Smith, who is just a sophomore! Saban is going to use a 3-4 defensive alignment this season. .
Sept. 1 vs. Western Carolina: W
Sept. 8 @ Vanderbilt: L
Sept. 15 vs. Arkansas: L
Sept. 22 vs. Georgia: W
Sept. 29 vs. Florida State: L
Oct. 6 vs. Houston: W
Oct. 13 @ Mississippi: W
Oct. 20 vs. Tennessee: L
Nov. 3 vs. Louisiana State: L
Nov. 10 @ Mississippi State: W
Nov. 17 vs. Louisiana-Monroe: W
Nov. 24 @ Auburn: L
9. Vanderbilt Commodores 7-5 (3-5)
You can see Vandy’s last place finish in the SEC East in 2006 and say they were the same old Dores. Um, no they weren’t. They lost by a combined 13 points to Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, and Kentucky! All of which were in bowl games. They beat Georgia ending a streak of 49 straight losses to ranked team (source: Phil Steele’s Preseason Mag). This team has talent. Chris Nickson is going to be hard to contain next year with one season under his belt. Earl Bennett is the best WR in the SEC and should bolt for the NFL and be a sure first rounder. Jonathan Goff might be the SEC’s best linebacker. They have a great tackle tandem with Chris Williams and Brian Stamper. No, this is not Vanderbilt of yester years. This is a new era in Nashville.
Sept. 1 vs. Richmond: W
Sept. 8 vs. Alabama: W
Sept. 15 vs. Mississippi: W
Sept. 29 vs. Eastern Michigan: W
Oct. 6 @ Auburn: L
Oct. 13 vs. Georgia: L
Oct. 20 @ South Carolina: W
Oct. 27 vs. Miami (OH): W
Nov. 3 @ Florida: L
Nov. 10 vs. Kentucky: L
Nov. 17 @ Tennessee: L
Nov. 24 vs. Wake Forest: W
Overall: 7-5 (3-5)
10. South Carolina Gamecocks 5-7 (1-7)
This is Spurrier's third year at USC, but the talent is too young to really dominate SEC competition. He will have to rely on freshmen and JUCO DL if he wants to compete. The departure of Sidney Rice is a big blow, but junior Kenny McKinley will pick up the load. Blake Mitchell peaked at the end of last season, but I don't think the OL is capable to give him the protection he needs. USC is definately a sleeper, but this team just hasn't improved as much as Vanderbilt and Kentucky over the past season.
Sept. 1 vs. UL-Lafatyette: W
Sept. 8 @ Georgia: L
Ept. 15 vs. South Carolina State: W
Sept. 22 @ Lousiana State: L
Sept. 29 vs. Mississippi State: W
Oct. 4 vs. Kentucky: L
Oct. 13 @ North Carolina: W
Oct. 20 vs. Vanderbilt: L
Oct. 27 @ Tennessee: L
Nov. 3 @ Arkansas: L
Nov. 10 vs. Florida: L
Nov. 24 vs. Clemson: W
Overall: 5-7 (1-7)
11. Mississippi Rebels 4-7 (1-7)
Orgeron is slowly building a competetive team in Oxford...very slowly. I just don't get how you can lose by 27 at Mizzou, but take LSU to overtime in Death Valley. That is the SEC in a nutshell, it is a war every week. The Rebels played 17 true freshmen last season, which means next year's team is going to be much more experienced. They lose AA Patrick Willis and will struggle to replace him. Thier QB situation is a mess, and there just isn't enough talent on this team to have a winning season.
Sept. 1 @ Memphis: W
Sept. 8 vs. Mizzou: L
Sept. 15 @ Vandy: L
Sept. 22 vs. Florida: L
Sept. 29 @ Georgia: L
Oct. 6 vs. Louisiana Tech: W
Oct. 13 vs. Bama: L
Oct. 20 vs. Arkansas: L
Oct. 27 @ Auburn: L
Nov. 3 vs. Northwestern State: W
Nov. 17 @ LSU: L
Nov. 24 @ Mississippi State: W
12. Mississippi State Bulldogs 3-9 (0-8)
Sylvester Croom in my opinion needs to enjoy his last year being a head coach in the SEC. They have the talent and speed to compete, but don't simply play well as a team or have confidence in themselves. I think Michael Henig has potential at QB, but his OL has never lived up to its potential. I expect Tony Burks to emerge as one of the better WRs in the SEC (he led in the SEC last year in YPC avg. with 24.3). This team just isn't very well coached and I expect a very bad year in Starkville.
Aug. 30 vs. Louisiana State: L
Sept. 8 @ Tulane: W
Sept. 15 @ Auburn: L
Sept. 22 vs. Jacksonville State: W
Sept. 29 @ South Carolina: L
Oct. 6 vs. Alabama-Birmingham: W
Oct. 13 vs. Tennessee: L
Oct. 20 @ West Virginia: L
Oct. 27 @ Kentucky: L
Nov. 10 vs. Alabama: L
Nov. 17 @ Arkansas: L
Nov. 24 vs. Ole Miss: L
Overall: 3-9 (0-8)

After seeing your location, what is the likelihood that your "real shockers" will involve Kentucky beating some big name teams and/or finishing near the top of the SEC East? IT AIN'T HAPPENING, BUDDY.

thats being pretty rough on the gamecocks i'd say..they were in every game last year besides the georgia game..they return 10 starters on d and brought in a ton on help on the dline to help stop the run which killed them last year..and they didnt only bring a lot of good high school seniors but some juco's also..
i say they beat georgia, kentucky, vandy, with arkansas being a swing game that depends on how the run d does could go their way or not

Ahh the Rebels at 11, damn. The offense will be better this year than last at least (hopefully). If Schaeffer pllearns to play this team could suprise a lot of people, he is pretty much an elite talent. First team All-SEC RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis is back too, as well as Freshman AA WR Dexter McCluster. Mike Oher at LT has been a projected 1st rounder as well. The defense could have a rough year, but there is a TON of young talent on that side of the ball. With so much competition in the SEC they could struggle, but Orgeron could have his team suprise some people.

Schaeffer didn't even work with the first team in the spring. He is by no means an elite talent with his lack of accuracy, which rivals Reggie Balls'.
Ole Miss has potential for sure, there is not enough overall talent on this team.

What a waste. He was so hyped coming out of Deerfield Beach. Great high school player but he never developed into a good passer.

South Carolina will be much better than you think. I'm not saying they'll win the SEC East, but I can definitely see them doing better than 1-7 in the SEC.

He has sucked but at QB the potential is there. You never know, he could have a future outside of QB. He is 6-2 210 with reported 4.4 speed. He can heave it too, he has a cannon. As you said the accuracy just isn't there. Could be a Reggie McNeal type of guy, he certainly sounds like McNeal measurables. talent, and skill-set wise.

Well then he might as well convert to wide receiver now because he will never be a good college or pro (Hahaha) quarterback.

Schaeffer should redshirt (if he already hasn't) and then play WR in 2008 for Ole Miss. He does have potential and he is good in the open field. Orgeron is wasting his talent.

I don't see it, we have all of are top players returning, if Nickson can improve in his turnovers this year we are a bowl team, if not it will be hard for us to win six.

I'll do it tonight...but I am reevaluating my PR's and it's really confusing because there really isn't much imo that seperates teams 2-9. The beautiful thing about the SEC is that anyone can beat anyone excluding MSU and Ole Miss sadly.
So, you might disagree that #8 might be better than #2 (for example, nothings final right now), but remember that doing PR's on the SEC is a tough thing to do because almost every team has a lot of talent...it's just tough lol.
