I can't believe someone suggested that Red Box has a better selection and is a better value. If you own and computer and/or gaming system, the two aren't even comparable.

Plus, I'm lazy as ****. Add a dollar-a-day late fee and the two just don't mix.
Between BluRays, I stream, the no late fee is the cherry on top

Unless Netflix started streaming 20x more recent movies since I last used it, I'm not sure how Red Box isn't both. I guess if you're talking using shady business, too, sure.
Red Box you get 15 movies a month for $15, including all releases that are 90 days old. Last time I used Netflix it was $15 for 2 rentals at a time and streaming which barely had anything within the last 4 years. Not sure how much it's changed, that was probably 4 or 5 months ago.
I've got 4 Red Box's within 5 minutes walking from my place, so maybe I'm biased because of that.
*edit* And I have zero interest in the mailing thing. Much more of a pain in the ass for me then going to a vending machine.

Red Box has it's value. Decent selection, get things fairly quick. Netflix streaming is amazing, but the mail in service doesn't mix well with my particular strain of laziness.

I use both. I don't have cable, so Netflix is king and it's getting better every month. Red Box is good when I get the itch to watch something right away (rare).

I can't wait till Fast Five comes out. Yeah it's gonna be lame and fake and everything else you wanna call it, but it's gonna be AWESOME!

Watched "Salt" the other day and it was much better than I expected.
Definitely recommend it for those who like thriller / action / spy flicks.

You can also stream TV shows with Netflix, and I don't see how the mailing thing is a pain in the ass it comes to your house and I don't even have to get out of the car to mail it back.

It's shaping up to be the heavy hitter scifi/actioner of this Summer, opens in late July.

In Feb. '02 I went to the much-heralded SciFi Western exhibit of lowbrow art at the Minna Gallery in SF about 3-4 times, featuring the themes of he Old West + space aliens

& it was there I 1st saw a 1997 graphic novel being sold on which this John Favreau film is based.
The buzz built when it was leaked at the ComicCon 2 yrs. ago, the preview was prominent as a SB XLV commercial, now it's going on the big screen this summer, starring the current James Bond Daniel Craig & red-hot Olivia Wilde, & bankable box office Harrison Ford as the heavy. I can't wait....

As far as streaming goes, I have yet to find a movie released more than a few months ago that has been unavailable to me. Since I started Netflix, I've pretty much only watched 2009 and 2010 releases to this point. Also as mentioned, pretty much every episode of any tv series except for the current season is available. The $7.99 per month for just the streaming is more than worth it. The extra $2 for the one DVD is just a bonus on top of the streaming. With the $14.99 Netflix plan, you could conceivably get 20 DVDs per month on top of the streaming.
I don't get the mail criticism either. Is it actually much more of a pain in the ass to walk to the end of your driveway and take the movies out of and put the movies in your mailbox then it is to go to the store to use the vending machine?

No. But I always forget and then have to wait longer.
I don't watch TV shows, so that's probably part of my lack of interest in netflix.
And it's only $8 for streaming now? Nice.

For my breed of laziness, yeah. I don't have any finical motivation to return the DVD's on time nor am I the "Oh next one on my list!" type. I'm more spontaneous than that with movies. The streaming works great for me. The mail system...not so much.

Netflix is taking its toll on Blockbuster, stores closing all over CA. They were boxing up the DVDs when I went in today, last day before the doors shut, only the crap movies for sale at $2.99 each.
Serves them right for failing by policy to rent porn.

Once Netflix started streaming it pretty much was the nail in the coffin for movie rental places. Pretty soon Movies will start streaming directly from the studio onto netflix rather than even going to the movies. Really wouldn't surprise me.

No way. You'd basically be bypassing a huge, huge amount of income for studios. They make way more money off of cinema showings then they do things like netflix; and who buys DVDs anymore?

If the studios found an agreement with a company similar to netflix I could see it happening. I mean did we really think that a system such as netflix would put movie rental places out of business, because when it first came out I thought it was stupid. Streaming changed everything.

Problem with that is Netflix would basically need to have Cable company pricing to make that work.

A premium package is along the lines I was thinking, or basically setting you up with certain studios similar to that of HBO or SHOWtime. Basically pay more for each movie company or something, idk just random ideas im shooting around for conversation. If it does eventually happen it wont be for a long time.

That would be cool if they were able to work that out. The problem is that would likely mean them pulling the good stuff and just putting the crappy stuff up on the basic package. Not a bad idea though.

Thats true, but I think even if they got to that point it would catch on quick enough that they would have to just make the jump and put everything on, maybe just up the price at that point cause people would pay it. Hell, even if they released the movies onto a netflix type company after only a month of letting it be in the theater exclusively would get them a ton of money. I mean personally Blu rays are about 20-30 bucks each as it is, this way you pay a cable price per month but get unlimited movies for the same price.

Yeah it won't be long before Netflix takes over in gaming and movies!Though they already do have game fly for that.I would love to see Netflix allow instant stream for new movies tho.I give maybe 2 or 3 years and it might happen with Netflix.I mean so many people have it.

IMO, Netflix is ******* awesome for TV. You can literally get a virtually unlimited supply of TV shows for 8? 9? (lowest deal) bucks a month, and it's quality shows too. I've seen The Office, South Park, Family Guy, Psych, Mythbusters (I like it :) ), etc.
Most of the movies available for streaming are meh-good, but the really good movies are rarely there, you've got to order those. That's where Red Box is better.
To tell you the truth, Netflix is more than enough for me, I watch much more TV than I do movies. And it takes two days for a movie to get here, so I can watch more than enough TV in that span, combined with work and school.
Just my two cents.

Was it just me or did Law Abiding Citizen really suck? I kind of got roped into watching it last night (I tried to get them to go for The Road), and it just never seemed to have a point.
