False. The book is good, but entire chapters detailing Patrick Bateman cutting up women are a bit excessive and pretty damn hard to read. The book has some funny moments the movie does not, but the movie is hilarious because it's so perfectly cast.
Christian Bale was meant to be Patrick Bateman. His delivery of the countless 80's yuppie quotes is flawless.
I love American Psycho and consider it to be the best film adaptation of a book I've ever seen.

The book is a masterpiece, and very superior to the adaptation. As much as I enjoy the movie, it doesn't properly convey the tone of the novel and it doesn't operate with the same feverish momentum the novel carries. As tedious as cycling through the chapters of Bateman's endless description of the 80's yuppie lifestyle can be, it really drives home the reasoning behind the manic much better then the movie, IMO.
Bale does a great, great job as Bateman, but I still think the book is a superior piece of work.

Good to hear. I just bought the book at a goodwill store for $2. I only read the first few pages as a teaser. Is it that manic for the entire book?
Oh, & i loed the movie. Bateman waxing philosophic about Phil Collins is quite memorable.

Yeah, I had similar feelings. It looked simply beautiful, but it didn't really stand out in any other way from your standard kids film.

Books are almost always better than the movies. I don't know if I've ever read a book, watched the film adaptation, and thought that the movie was better.
I can't find anybody who will go see Ted with me. I obviously need new people.

Yeah, Jurassic Park crossed my mind. That was probably the exception to the rule, but the book has a soft spot in my heart because it was the first adult book that I ever read.

Fight Club is probably another one. Though I really, really like the book as well. Read it every summer.

Both the American Psycho and Fight Club books are awesome. The movies are too. But arguing which medium is better is like arguing whether Christian Bale or Brad Pitt is more awesome. They both ******* rule.
Also, Ted is indeed hilarious.

You're so cool. (you better be watching the damn QT cut!)
Also vidae, I'd like to extend this empty gesture to go see Ted with you. The intent of the gesture isn't empty, I just know the logistics will be too tough to realistically work out. Sorry.

Vidae, I love you enough that we can work through the logistical issues. Apparently TACKLE doesn't.

It's alright. Weird seeing it since a lot of the locations where it is filmed during the "modern" scenes in the movie I walk by every other day.
