Not to mention O' Brother Where Art Thou, Fargo, Barton Fink, Miller's Crossing, and Raising Arizona.

Nobody mentioning Blood Simple yet is upsetting.

Not to mention Raising Arizona and Fargo but I suppose those are terrible films as well.
BTW, I just realized Aaron Paul is in Van Wilder.
EDIT: Well that escalated quickly.

I actually just realized I never saw True Grit. But all of the other Coen movies mentioned on this page are indeed very good.
Other good directors: Edgar Wright, Rian Johnson, Tom McCarthy, Ben Affleck, Spike Jonze

One of these things is not like the other, one of these things just doesn't belong!

I love the Fountain but it lands firmly behind Pi and Requiem for me. On par with the Wrestler...and I still haven't seen Black Swan.

Aronofsky's my favorite and I love Miike, but von Trier is awful. He's like modern art in movie form.

He has his comfort spots and maybe just a tad of favor in casting leads, but it has yet to hurt him (awaiting how he does with Argo). His direction has been quite good, in my mind.

Ben Affleck is a good director.
another one that I don't think has been mentioned yet is Sam Mendes and Chan-wook Park.

Good call on Mendes. I usually don't get excited for Bond movies, but there are so many good pieces involved with the next one.

I havent seen True Grit either, I don't doubt that it's an awesome film, just doesn't look interesting to me.But I'll probably watch it at some point in the near future.

I've accepted that I apparently didn't get it and that on some hardcore artsy level it probably has some symbolism that makes it great or something but for me it was a bunch of truly unlikeable characters following an insanely predictable outcome without showing any development and then not even having an ending whilst going forever. Basically it was 2 hours of nothing but watching boots walk on ground and crap like that!
As I said though I just don't get what was good about it and obviously went in with high expectations given that it was award winning and generally heralded. It does have the honour of being one of the very few movies that I genuinely disliked.
Every other Coen movie I've seen has fallen somewhere between average and slightly above average but NCFOM was awful!
Fincher, Scorcese and Nolan would be my current favourites. Spielberg's movies that he directs are generally very good, he just sells his name to a boatload of awful movies so it's hard to filter through the crap and find which are actually Spielberg movies and which ones he just sold his name to.

Ben Affleck is an awesome director.
Don't think anyone's mentioned Guy Ritchie yet either. From a pure entertainment point of view he's easily one of my favourites.

I watched The Ides of March last night. It was pretty good. Not great but I follow politics religiously so I found it interesting. Didn't love the ending though.

Apparently the new Daredevil Reboot's director has opted out of the project. If a movie isn't started by Fox in the autumn the company risks the rights reverting back to Marvel. Yes!
Of course, I'm sure Fox is just going to rush and find a director so the rights don't revert back and we'll end up with a **** movie.

I read that Fox isn't too broken up about letting go of Daredevil, either. As far as they're concerned, making a new DD movie will cost them more then letting the rights revert back to Marvel. I would ******* love a sick Daredevil movie. I'm actually one of the people who doesn't hate the Ben Affleck version, so long as you watch the director's cut.

Yes the Director's Cut actually makes sense. I hope Marvel gets the rights back to Fantastic Four as well. Marvel Studios just seems to know what the hell they're doing.
