I don't know about you, but I tend to get pumped over seeing new and interesting movies, not the same movie with a slightly different setting and plot.

Well I just like the concept of directors using actors they are used to. I think the plot is very different considering gladiator is about a general that turns gladiator where as robin hood is about a *thief* trying to take down the rich.
Very different movies imo but I get what youre saying.

Just wasn't impressed by anything in it, and it certainly wasn't worthy of a best picture win (it won over Requiem for a Dream goddammit).
I really miss when Ridley Scott was actually consistent. In the 2000s, he had three good to great movies (Black Hawk Down, the Kingdom of Heaven director's cut, Matchstick Men), three painfully mediocre movies (American Gangster, Body of Lies, Hannibal), and one overrated annoyance (Gladiator) to go along with A Good Year.

Not I. Every trailer I've seen looked pretty stupid to me.

Someone needs to actually look at the plot for Robin Hood.
Protagonist is an skilled warrior in the army of a fair and just King which is fighting far away from home. Fair and just King dies and Protagonist returns home to find his lands and title stripped and an evil usurper (Antagonist) on the throne. Protagonist generally makes life hard for Antagonist (while becoming more popular with the general public) and probably kills him in the end.
Now quick, which movie does that describe?
edit - Ridley cliche bonus...Protagonist is an emotionally distant badass who is difficult to love because he's just so intensely into something but still has women gravitate towards him because he so ******* just/heroic/good/etc. This Protagonist will always be played by Russell Crowe.

In today's Holywood, copying plots is essential. Just slap on an even more "epic" battle scene at the end of the movie and the money will roll in.

Ridley Scott sort of turned into a giant inconsistency of epic proportions following the fact that he released Blade Runner after Alien, and both of those are amazingness.

I'll give it 3 and 1/2 stars. It probably would have been much better in the theatre, as the cinematography is great. I don't see how it won 9 Oscars though.
The characters aren't simple good/bad though, which makes it better than a lot of historical dramas. Surprising as well, considering the movie was encouraged by the Communist government, even though the Communists don't come off well.
The shots of the Forbidden City are great as well.

I will always give Scott credit for those two (especially Blade Runner, which is one of my favorite movies ever). That said, to pretend like he hasn't been churning out **** lately while leaning heavily on the same character archetypes played by the same actors is just silly. His movie have gotten far worse and far more repetitive.

I don't need movies to be best-picture worthy for me to enjoy them. If Robin Hood allows me to forget all the **** going on in the real world for 2 hours, and there's some decent action involved, I'll be completely satisfied.
I'm on board with almost anything that includes Russel Crowe, so I'll definitely be going to see this movie. But I am still pissed Gladiator won over Requiem for a Dream...Personal taste maybe, but I liked it a hell of of a lot more than the other nominees.
Is it possible to say I love a movie but wish I hadn't seen it? Being 12 when I saw it, Sara's demise crushed my soul.

Now, for the ten best movies ever made.
10. Lawrence of Arabia, 1962. (David Lean)

"Do you see that?"
"No, what is it?"
"Sand. Lots of it."
9. The Shawshank Redemption, 1994. (Frank Darabont)

"What are you doing?"
"Sitting here in prison. What are you doing?"
"Sitting right here next to ya."
"I'm innocent."
"Yeah, me too. Want some ice cream? I scream ice cream, you scream for ice cream, we all scream for ice cream. I love this place."
8. Casablanca, 1942. (Michael Curtiz)

"Is that your breath?"
7. Citizen Kane, 1941. (Orson Whale)

Look at that deep focus... aww... just jizzed in my pants.
6. It's a Wonderful Life, 1946 (Frank Capra)

Poor Jimmy Stewart. Look at all those annoying rugrats.
5. Rashômon, 1950. (Akira Kurosawa)

Kung-Pow!!!
4. Wild Strawberries, 1957. (Ingmar Bergman)

"Hey old man, can I pick some of these strawberries?"
"I'm homeless."
"Like I said, can I pick these wild strawberries?"
"I haven't eaten in days. Those are mine."
"Oh, well, you snooze, you lose old man."
3. 2001: A Space Odyssey, 1968. (Stanley Kubrick)

Very entertaining.
2. The Road, 1954. (Federico Fellini)

This guy is crazy. Just look at him.
1. The Bicycle Thieves, 1948. (Vittorio De Sica)

"Yeah, I'm stilling this bike. I'm gangsta. *****!"
I translated for those who don't understand the language.

I just watched this. WEIRD MOVIE. There were alot of parts which were very cool, and it had some legitimately funny parts as well. Giamatti rocks it, as per usual, and the script is like Kaufman lite, in that it possesses all of the style but none of the substance. Definitely recommend it to all though.

I know I made a joke in there about the director's last name, but it's called Citizen Kane. Have a little respect for the greatest movie ever made, well, obviously not the greatest, I have it at #7, but unarguably the most influential.
That's my list guys. It's legit. I was joking about LOA being boring. It is 4 hrs. and very long, but it's also incredible.
