When it came time to decide who should direct The Avengers, guess who totally slew the competition?

Joss Whedon is about to ink a deal that will have him helming the multi-superhero action flick, based on the classic comic books, for Marvel Studios, Variety reported Tuesday.

This will be Whedon's second feature directorial effort and his first film since 2005's Serenity, the big-screen resolution to his short-lived but much-loved space drama Firefly.

He's low on cinematic experience, but considering how Whedon has excelled at directing casts full of ass-kicking heroes, who better than the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer to get Iron Man, Captain America, the Incredible Hulk and Thor in shape for a May 4, 2012, release date?

Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans (who recently was tapped for Captain America), Chris Hemsworth (Thor himself) and Samuel L. Jackson (as Nick Fury) are all expected to star in the film, and Marvel is hoping to get Edward Norton to go green as the Hulk one more time, as well.

Just watched the french horror flick high tension. Had potential, but I was pretty let down by it. Horror movies wouldnt bother me so much if characters made decent decisions. My roomate believes thats what makes a horror movie, and you need to have characters make stupid decisions. I disagree, I think its possible to have a solid script down, but most movie take it the easy way and either hope the audience goes for it, or they just dont care. Anyone else think this?

Other than Hathaway getting very un-Hathaway like in the film, I found nothing interesting in it. In fact it was painful.

Roger Ebert gave it 3 1/2 out of 4 stars. This is just an excerpt from his review, but Steve Carrel, Tina Fey, James Franco, and Mila Kunis usually means good things.

We believe that. We're halfway prepared for a low-key romantic comedy when all hell breaks lose. They pretend to be an absent couple in order to grab a reservation at a trendy restaurant, and two hit men assume they are that couple and topple them into a screwball comedy. Yet all the time Phil and Claire seem like the kind of people who don't belong in a screwball comedy. That's why it's funny. They're bewildered.

"Date Night" supplies them with the "real" Tripplehorns (James Franco and Mila Kunis), two mob-employed cops (Jimmi Simpson and Common), a mob boss (Ray Liotta) and a muscular security expert (Mark Wahlberg) who never wears a shirt. These characters are also somewhat believable. Plots like this have a way of spinning over the top with insane manic behavior. It's as if the characters are desperately signaling, Look at us! Aren't we hilarious? But the audience has to bring hilarity to you. It can't be assumed.
