Yeah I've read both of those already. I really liked Pygmy, probably one of his best. I didn't really like Rant, the whole style of it kind of annoyed me. Chuck P books seem to be kind of hit/miss to me.

Thanks for reply

This sounds like a good book, I'm gonna put it on my list of books to read.

I can understand not liking Rant. I liked it the first time around and loved it after reading it again. I just found it a whole lot better the second time around.

Other books I have liked in the past:

Jennifer Government, Syrup, and The Company all by Max Berry. I have read Jen Gov about 5 times now and it is great every time. The character of John Nike is just so fun to read about. The other two and just fun and easy reads.

I LOVED The Contortionists Handbook. I read it a few years back and would love to read it again but it was lost when I lent it to a friend.

The Areas of my Expertise by John Hodgeman was a really funny book.

Any book by George Carlin will be hilarious.

You think all that new-thought, "Secret," Law of Attraction stuff is new? Nah, it's all just ideas borrowed from one of the best selling books of all time - Think and Grow Rich.

Just got back from the store.

I bought:

The Informers - Bret Easton Ellis, same guy that wrote American Psycho
Snuff - Chuck P.
Lolita - Vladimir Nabokov
Serial Killers: The Method and Madness of Monsters - Peter Vronsky
One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest - Ken Kesey

All for around $50, including my friends employee discount. The book store didn't have The Contortionist's Handbook or Jennifer Government, but I definitely got to check those out because they sound really interesting. And John Hodgeman's book is hilarious, one of the funniest I've ever read.

glad to see this thread bumped. Right now i am reading World War Z, it sounds corny but is very entertaining. It's about a zombie outbreak and how the world changed. It is a whole bunch of short stories and notes written from a journalists perspective and interviews while he is trying to piece together what went wrong. It has a lot of social commentary, but it is going to be a movie, i read the script has been described as a children of men's setting with zombies. Sounds great to me

I stopped reading Life of Pi a while ago for some reason.
I started it up again the other day and I'm really enjoying it.

I plan on starting another book when I'm done with it.
Any suggestions?

His book offers a fairly slanted view of history. I've read a lot of zinn and I really find a lot of his conclusions to be a bit over the top.

I finally finished Life of Pi today.
For someone who has already read it...
can you please explain the ending to me? Was Pi really on the boat with the animals, or were they really other people?

from Sparknotes...
Quote:
In the course of thirty pages, the sad tale we have been reading takes on a new and even more tragic layer of meaning when Pi reveals another version, one in which the animals are replaced by humans. Once we learn this, we immediately assume that Pi has probably made up the animal version as a way to cope with extreme tragedy. The beautiful, noble zebra represents the exotic Chinese sailor. The gutless, violent, ugly hyena embodies all the revolting qualities of the greedy, cowardly cook. The maternal orangutan, with her vaguely human body and mannerisms, represents Pi's own mother. And the tiger is Pi himself, alternately vicious, passive, watchful, ravenous, self-contained, tamed, and feral. Both versions of the story—with and without animals—are viable, and Pi never tells us definitively which tale is true. Still, Pi seems to confess in these last chapters that he has made up his entire story as a way to cope with a shocking series of events. Only storytelling has the power to rescue him and deliver him from the absolute depths of despair.

One of my favorite "classic" novels of all time is A Picture of Dorian Gray. My Chuck P recommendation, if you haven't already read it, is Survivor.

Finally had a chance to read Moneyball. it was pretty good, gives an idea as to the insides of Billy Beane's organization. I would never have thought a GM would have his manager be his *****. It didn't shock me what occurred to Jeremy Brown though.

I have been reading quite a bit since summer vacation started for me, read some really great stuff...

Death With Interruptions- Jose Saramago
- I love Saramago as a writer. I think he is brilliant. Wasnt as powerful as his other works, but was just as poignant and cynical. I enjoyed it.
One Hundred Years of Solitude- Gabriel Garcia Marquez
- One word: Tedious. Obviously the appreciation comes from the writing itself, but it was tough to get through.
A Scanner Darkly- Phillip K. Dick
- You really cant go wrong with Phillip K. Dick. Awesome writer.

And I always enjoy re-reading books that I havent read sicne I was younger, and these are a few Ive re-read this summer:

The Contortionists Handbook- Craig Clevenger
The Picture of Dorian Gray- Oscar Wilde
For Whom the Bell Tolls- Ernest Hemingway
The Rum Diary- Hunter S. Thompson

All of which are awesome.

And I agree with Brent, every single person should be made to read Howard Zinn growing up. It beats the hell out of the **** they teach us anyways.

I am in the process of reading Bill Simmons' "Now I Can Die in Peace".

It's not the cover of mine, but it's the same book. I'm loving this one.
