Asafa powell is again the World's fastest Man
Anyone here a big track and field fan?
On September 9, 2007, in opening heats of the IAAF Rieti Grand Prix in Rieti, Italy, Powell ran a new world record time of 9.74 s (+1.7 m/s) in the 100m, fulfilling the promise he had made earlier. He had said after his bronze medal in Osaka that he would break the record by the end of the year to make up for the disappointment of not becoming world champion. [4] Remarkably, Powell eased up in the final few metres of his record-setting race, indicating that he was saving his strength for a fast 100 m final at the same meet. [5] In the final, Powell ran 9.78 (0 m/s), the fastest 100 m ever when adjusted for wind assistance and altitude.[6]

Impressive, but he still bottles it in the big events, which is a shame...

3.56 if you just consider him running the same speed from start to finish, now obviously he starts from a standstill but Asafa is known as a quick starter, so make of that what you will...

I'd say if you account for him having to start at a standstill he would run about a 4.1-4.2

Doesn't mean ish Asafa Powell is a choker he won't win anything big, who cares he ran this time, last week world championships chocked. Tyson G ay is the fastest man on earth he is the reigning 100 and 200 champion and could easily break the record but will wait for the olympics to do that. What happened in the worlds 2 weeks ago Tyson won easily with a 9.85 time with even though he had the worst start of his season. Asafa finished 3rd with 9.96. A couple days later even though he was tired Tyson won the 200 meters with a 19.76 time which is a world championship record as he crushed his opponents by a good 10 meters, what did he do next he led the us team to the 4x100 gold medal. So what Asafa runs a fast time a week later with no pressure or competition, in a head to head matchup with Tyce he will crush Asafa, Tyson just never breaks the record because no one ever challenges him, Asafa Powell is so overrated it's not even funny, he is a choke artist who makes excuses. Tyson has the best acceleration in history it's scary watching him accelerate it's not even human, it's scary how he can run sub 9.8's with regularity even though he is one of the worst starters on tour. Tyce is the most underrated athlete in America. He dominates real meets. He is one of the best athletes today, so humble doesn't take trash but is incredible.
100 finals WC's crushing Powell despite awful start: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ilWaefe6bK4
200's at US Championships, it is unreal watching it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0wqZw8Ig_4
He ran the 2nd fastest 200 in history in this race, against a slight headwind which is incredible, if he had the wind to his back he could have set the world record.

Well put, I alluded to that in my first post, but you put it better, and definitely more passionately haha.

Umm good one except Tyson has never run a sub 9.8 while Asafa has done it 3 times but i do agree with you that Asafa chokes in the big races. A key to running is staying as relaxed as possible. That is why when you see a race in slow motion you see all the runner's cheeks bouncing all over the place.

That's cause Asafa has been lucky to get the perfect conditions for these races with a slight wind to his back while still being legal, Tyson has never had that perfect condition. He has actually run 9.85's against the wind which is tons more impressive, if he gets the perfect elements with a slight wind to his back and a good start he could be the first to run sub 9.7's.

Michigan has speed in the secondary. They need someone who can cover and not just run fast.
