Haha that's also a good point. Most people here might know Henry just because of that incident.

Out of interest what sort of wages and transfer fees do the teams in the MLS fork out?
I think it will keep getting bigger, but it'll be over a very long period. A good performance in the WC will definately help you out.

Disagree on the pessimism concerning the prospects of the popularity of American soccer in the future. If you look at where this sport was in 1990 and you look at it now, not only is our national team more impressive, but much more people follow the team. Soccer will never be as popular as it is in Europe, but it will slowly become more popular...emphasis on "slowly." The key is that at some point, MLS teams need to field teams with comparable talent of teams across the pond. Questioning why the MLS isn't that popular is like wondering why Minor League Baseball hasn't taken off yet.
Anywho, big day for La Liga.

I think interest in soccer is growing in the United States, but interest in the MLS is still low. MLS is gaining interest, as evident in the additions of San Jose, Seattle, Philly over the past 3 years with Vancouver, Portland, and Montreal coming in the next 3 years (plus rumors of places like Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, and a few others getting teams after that).
The problem is MLS soccer is fairly sloppy, and the talent level isn't great. I think a lot of the Generation Adidas prospects they've been bringing in plus young foreign guys like Freddy Montero are helping. They really need more than one game a week on ESPN.

In more relevant news than the fact that Americans don't care about soccer: Barcelona clinched the Primera today.
Inter is officially champion of Italy, too.

Chelsea is going to make a record bid for Torres. Supposedly more than the Ronaldo offer.

A Drogba and Torres combo up top could be pretty deadly. I wonder how it would work though cause at the end of the year it seemed like they started to go 4-3-3ish with Anelka-Drogba- Kalou up front. Although if this does happen Chelsea would be ridiculous in fifa 11.

Yeah that was a pretty bad challenge on Ballack, sucks that he is going to miss the World Cup. Do you know who will slot in to fill his place in the squad?

not quiet yet, but the double standard is horrible. everyone suspects it was on purpose with boateng being from ghana and all, but all i see is an attack just like the on Ribery had in Lyon. Its bad luck, he only got a yellow, english soccer is rough, but its not like he was trying to destroy germany's chances. if we lose just because of ballack, we wouldnt have made it far anyways

knowing that ballack is gonna miss the world cup makes me so upset. im thinking this is how the German starting XI may turn out now:
--------Klose---Podolski---------
Ozil---Schweini---Kroos---Marin
Lahm--Merte---Friedrich---Boateng
------------Neuer--------------
its gotta be eith kroos or trochowski playing more of the attacking center midfielder role, while Schweini will now have to drop back and play defensively, similar to what hes doing now at Bayern

I kinda get it. It's not entirely justified, but I do understand the frustration.

MILAN - USA international Oguchi Onyewu, who is coming off a season of rehabilitation following a long injury which has forced him to stay off the pitch for the whole season, but is now ready to face the World Cup with his national team, made a very significant gesture from a human and professional point of view today. Assisted by his lawyer, Jean Louis Dupont, Onyewu asked for, and received, a one-year contract extension from Milan, from 30 June 2012 to 30 June 2013. During this extra year, Oguchi Onyewu, by his choice, much appreciated by the Rossoneri club, has asked not to receive any kind of salary. This is an exemplary gesture which deserves sincere congratulations.

Yeah, that's the least he could do after getting a free pay check for a whole season.

Yet you never see any athletes ever do it after getting hurt. Hence, Gooch = the ****.

That's the rumor. Read somewhere that Madrid was ready to launch a $57 million dollar offer for him.

I'm actually hoping for something more like
------------------Neuer-------------------
------------Merte-----Boateng-----------
Lahm--------Westerman---Aogo/Jansen
----Ozil---------Schweini----Marin/Poldi
-----Keisling/Gomez--Klose/Mueller----
Although ultimately I think we'll just stick Khedira in Ballack's spot.

That really makes no sense...
That's like saying if I wanted to be a nice person, I'd donate my salary to charity. Sure, it'd be a nice thing to do, but it's not like he unfairly obtained his salary.
He's in effect making it so he doesn't get paid for not playing this year, and uses this past season's salary to pay for hopefully a healthy full season next year.

Uh oh.
Chances are Hicks will override Benitez and say yes just to keep Liverpool afloat. Not happy about this rumor at all.
