The Dutch should have played Rafael VDV sooner!

van marwijk got it all wrong tactically. vdv should definitely have started and the younger midfielders should have been used. van persie showed so little effort in their final match too.

Affelay won man of the match in the final tune up game so it was hard to sit him and I think VM thought he would mesh better with Robben and Sneijder than VDV(which of course didn't happen). The Dutch have so much talent on the attack but the players don't necessarily compliment each other well like you see with the Germans or with Spain(helps that a lot of those guys play together with Bayern and Barca). In South Africa Kuyt was a perfect compliment to Sneijder and Robben but we didn't have that this time around and it showed with our disorganized attack. That and the lack of experience from the back four cost us.

If we are being honest about the Dutch, there is so many things they should have done differently. For such a talented squad, they played horrendously.

VDV should've started for Van Bommel or De Jong, regardless of Afellay. Van Bommel and De Jong are the same player, workhorses that set the tone for your team and there really isn't a need for both of them in.

Ya but the we would be playing essentially a 4-1-4-1. It would make more sense to play Huntelaar up front with RVP if we going that route. VM was fixated on that 4-2-3-1 formation that worked so well for us two years ago but it didn't fit our personnel this time around and it was another one of the many reasons we lost. There was no reason not to put a more aggressive lineup out there against Denmark and I still don't know why VDV wasn't brought on earlier.

In a perfect world the lineup we ended up having to play vs. Portugal should have been the one we played against Denmark and vice versa.

I think I actually did cry...
I'm not quite sure which one is worse. 2010, because it was a full yard over the line, or 2012, because there was a 6th official standing directly opposite 5 yards away.

Has anyone ever been to Brazil? I am considering saving up as much as possible over the next two years and see if I can't see a couple World Cup games. I have read tickets aren't too expensive since it spans 32 days and 12 cities, so it will be airfare that will be expensive.

A few friends and I are likely going to try and go to the World Cup. One of my best friends is fluent in Portuguese, so we figure that will help.

WARSAW, Poland (AP) -- The most powerful man in soccer called goal-line technology a "necessity" Wednesday, only hours after Ukraine was denied what appeared to be a legitimate goal in its must-win match against England at the European Championship.
"After last night's match GLT is no longer an alternative but a necessity," FIFA President Sepp Blatter wrote on Twitter.

Its good to hear, I'm just wondering why that non-goal was the one that pushed him to this conclusion.

Because the extra official on the line was meant to be the solution. Which couldn't have been proved more wrong yesterday.

Id love to go somewhere to enjo the world cup depending on the USA's political standing with the res of the world at the time. I feel like things would get ugly or Americans in particular.

In Brazil, Americans may be targeted by criminals, but that won't have anything to do with the nationality, rather the perceived wealth and typical tourist ignorance.
Russia and Qatar could be more prone to anti-American sentiments, but I doubt it would seriously effect any American's stay/enjoyment of the games so long as they weren't out making problems. World Cups always feature extreme security, with national respect on the line for how the games turn out.
