Let's be honest here, Jordan's first retirement wasn't running from adversity/trying to play baseball. It was along the lines of being an informal suspension from David Stern. MJ's life was spiraling completely out of control at that point.

Well that does not change he left his team for 2 years. Completely abandoned and left them out to dry.

Yea, how was Jordan running from adversity? He had it made in the NBA. There was no adversity. He left because of stuff off the court, namely his father dying, gambling, etc. It's not like he was struggling and decided to quit.

Not even remotely the same thing, what a god awful comparison.

He still abandoned his team for 2 years. I would say that makes Jordan a bigger douche not being able to control his life than having a one hour special to announce where you are playing next year. Maybe Lebron should have said F it for 2 years allow them to collect some good draft picks and see how good the team can become.

Ha ok this argument is over. You obviously have no idea what the Bulls were like in 94-96. They almost made the finals the year after Jordan left. Yea, that would have landed them some great draft picks compared to the 6 years surrounding those years that they had the last pick in the draft...

Seriously, how is it even remotely close? If Jordan stays, he likely wins 2 more rings. How is that "running away from adversity"? Possibly winning =/= adversity.

Bulls without MJ= almost making finals
Cavs without LBJ- general consensus picking high up in the draft. Guess Lebron should have pulled out of the cavs for 2 years and played with the browns. Allow the cavs to collect Harrison Barnes with another high quality player to come back to start his dynasty.

Jordan still cost his team winning more championships. If Lebron stays they maybe luck into one championship. Going to Miami giving himself good players he could possibly win 6 or more.

The two years Kobe basically took off, post-Shaq and pre-Gasol, he was in all honesty the best player i've ever seen. When he dropped 81 it was something else, and he dropped 50+ like 3 straight games. he asked to be traded amidst a rape allegation/trial, and the worst supporting cast for a superstar possibly ever. Kobe > LeBron.

I've seen a lot of prognosticators picking them to win 30-40 games and making the play-offs. It's the Eastern Conference, not going to be that hard to make the play-offs as an 8 seed as nobody can name 8 teams guaranteed to make the play-offs, while the West is pretty much in stone, with LA, SA, PHX, Utah, Denver, Portland, Dallas, Houston and Oklahoma City all being penciled for 50 wins. And Harrison Barnes isn't even coming out this upcoming year, he's staying for two.

Exactly. So how on earth are you comparing what MJ did to what Lebron did? They are completely different in almost every single way. I don't understand what you were even bringing that up for...? Jordan didn't run from adversity. Unless of course you equate his father dying to adversity. Jordan had nothing to prove when he retired for the first time. Lebron has everything to prove still.

Umm ok...

Again, Jordan had nothing left to prove. At that point, he was already considered one of the greatest of all time, anything he did after just added to his legacy. Whether or not he won more rings than Russell would have had no effect on where he stood in history.

Again, where is the similarity between Jordan's career when he retired the first time and Lebron's career when leaving for Miami? You're just grasping at straws now.

Most people have completely forgotten how bad the Lakers were post-Shaq. It was disgusting to watch.

Smush Parker and Kwame Brown. That's all that needs to be said.

Dreadlocks is right, MJ should have had his life under control. Letting his father get murdered? Come on Michael, you know better than that. smh.

I just thought of how awesome it would be to go to a party with Michael Jordan and Lawrence Taylor in the late 80s. Random. But it would have been insanity.

I imagine it would be a lot like the party in Any Given Sunday, coincidentally also involving LT. LT would be doing crazy ****, and MJ would be running around throwing money at people or betting on the next crazy thing LT would do.

But seriously, yes MJ really shouldn't have had such off the field problems. The gambling and family problems he had could have been avoided, and if you believe the theory that his dad was murdered because of some gambling debt, possibly that as well. But to basically call a guy out for leaving basketball, the game he closely associated with his relationship with his father, when his father is murdered, that's just insane.

Also, even if MJ stayed around instead of retiring, there are two unknown factors here.

1. Would they have even won both years? Many would say yes, but I remember hearing they had a lot of problems with the Rockets in the years before MJ retired. And let's be honest, no one on that Bulls roster is gonna be able to contain Dream.
2. If they did win both years, would Michael even have stuck around long enough to win 8? After he retired in 98, it was plain to see he had more good years left in him. Just look at him with the Wizards before he got hurt. He was still a legitimate 20+ ppg guy who could have an explosive game at any time. He left some good basketball on the table when he left. There's a good chance that after 6 straight rings or so, he'd have gotten bored.

Honestly, if they had won 5 in a row, or subsequently 8 in a row, MJ would have stuck around until they lost imo.

Smush Parker and Kwame Brown. That's all that needs to be said.
Yeah, if people think LeBron's supporting cast was bad...

Shaq > Kwame Brown
Antawn Jamison = Lamar Odom
Anthony Parker > Luke Walton
Mo Williams > Smush Parker

Varejao > Chris Mihm
J.J. Hickson > Brian Cook
Delonte West > Maurice Evans

Rest of Cavs team > Aaron McKie, Shammond Williams, Sasha Vujacic, Ronny Turiaf, Andrew Bynum, and co.

It was absolutely terrible and painful to watch.

Put LeBron on that Laker team, they win 50 games.

Sure, maybe in the ****** Eastern Conference, where the perennial top dog of the East (Detroit) was a 50-win team.

To say that team is a 50 win team with Lebron instead of Kobe in his prime is just asinine.

Lebron makes everyone around him better. They would've won the championship with that team.

On a less redundant topic: Dwyane Wade says that it is Mario Chalmers' "job to lose" and that he may end up playing PG for the team, but he doesn't want to.

PG - Dwyane Wade
SG - Mike Miller
SF - LeBron James
PF - Chris Bosh
C - Ilgauskas/Anthony/Magloire/Pittman

Rumors are that the Bobcats are trying and have the pieces to acquire Chris Paul. New Orleans hasn't been ready to play ball yet.

New Orleans gets

Erik Dampier ($13 million in expiring contracts)
Gerald Wallace
Gerald Henderson
D.J. Augustin

Charlotte gets

Chris Paul

That's a fast line-up until you get to Big Z. Their best line-up would be a small ball line up of:

PG - Dwyane Wade
SG - Mike Miller
SF - LeBron James
PF - Udonis Haslem
C - Chris Bosh

That lineup in transition would be ridiculous. Also, Haslem helps their post game out in getting rebounds and interior D.

They could probably use that lineup a lot, with Bosh at center; until they played Orlando or Los Angeles. The Cavs' played their best ball last year with Varejao and Hickson, not with Shaq. Maybe Miami will figure that out and go with their truly best lineup. (the one you mentioned)
