I think this one is much more viable for the Lakers.

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMa...radeId=2593vgg

Definitely don't want to lose Bynum, but Paul + Okafor > Bynum + Sasha + Luke.

You lose a guy who could still develop into an even better big man, but you get arguably the best point guard in the game, as well as the young guy to lead the team in the future.

Also, Okafor can play center which keeps Gasol at PF. Good defense, and a tough guy that just absorbs the physical contact that Gasol would at C. Okafor takes that hitting and shoving much better than Gasol does. And better yet, Okafor isn't an injury machine like Bynum. He's missed a total of 0 games in the past three years.

And I understand that the PG position isn't the most important in the triangle, but Paul is an exception. He's a superstar and a game changer, and you take them if you can.

This deal definitely works for both teams. LA wants talent, and Paul brings it. Hornets want money, and Sasha is a 5 mil expiring, they rid themselves of a bad contract in Okafor, which they've tried to get rid of for a while, and get a talented player in return. Walton's contract sucks, but it expires a year before Okafor's does, and there are rumors he's considering retirement due to his lingering back injuries.

OMG I would jizz my pants if that happened. I'm opposed to anything that gives us a Pau-Lamar (starting) frontcourt, but Okafor let's us keep Pau at PF and Lamar off the bench.

MAKE IT HAPPEN PLEASE

Because, like I said, they struggle to find offense from their older players. Also, they need depth up front since Perk is out until the second half and Sheed might retire...so they'd actually want Okafor. The other thing is that, two years from now, they're going to have to completely rebuild. Much easier to build around Chris Paul than Rondo.

Also, interesting facts on Chris Paul at the beginning, and then Lakers discussion for those who're interested.

Really? That deal is awesome for the Lakers and sucks for the Hornets. Bynum can't stay healthy and doesn't have a good contract, Vujacic is ONLY a $5 million expiring when the Hornets can get better expiring deals elsewhere, and Luke Walton does nothing except cleanup in garbage time if that and on top of that he has a crappy contract. That's a wet dream scenario for the Lake Show and a nightmare for the Hornets.

As usual for most teams in these situations of having to trade a franchise player, the usual asking price is 1) a young talent (Bynum) 2) salary relief (taking Posey/Okafor for Vujacic's expiring) 3) draft picks (plus Ebanks or Caracter if necessary). We followed this model when we traded for Gasol, giving up 1) Javaris Crittenton 2) Kwame Brown 3) two first rounders.

The fact he brings up the Pau Gasol trade as the model for a proposed trade with New Orleans turns me off completely considering that Gasol trade is widely panned as one of the most lopsided trades in NBA history.

Forget Chris Paul, anything that gets rid of Luke's contract is saliva worthy.

It's not that bad a deal at all. They get a talented player and expiring contracts, which is what they're going to be looking for.

Here's the trade you liked from the last page:

Paul
Okafor
Posey

for

Nelson
Carter
Bass
Gortat

Bynum is a better talent than all but Nelson, and both happen to be very injury prone players.

For the next part, I know the contracts increase, so I found a middle ground.

Losing all three contracts saves the Hornets, in total, $92 million dollars, but they're going to spend $88 million in total on the four guys they receive which means they only really save $4 million (barring any other trades).

If they traded away Paul and Okafor to the Lakers, they'd save a total of $78 million and would pay out around $50 million to Bynum, Sasha, and Luke. They wind up saving close to $30 million in total here (again, barring any other trades).

Once they trade Paul, it's over, it's time to rebuild, so they're not exactly looking for quality bench players and whatnot. Just shed money and quickly.

So they save more money with the Lakers, and get a younger and talented player (at a position that would actually help them, Nelson not so much due to Collison) with the Lakers, but the Magic deal is still better?

The other deals you posted all have issues of their own.

For the Knicks, you can't trade Felton until December, and Chris Paul wants to leave now, so that alone stalls it.

The Boston and Charlotte deals could work, I'll focus on them later on, got something I have to take care of real quick.

Bynum + draft picks + salary relief is infinitely more than Kwame Brown + Crittenton + draft picks. Like, not even close.

And is the NO front office that much more committed to winning the Memphis' anyways? It's wishful thinking to hope that some team is going to offer you a great deal for Paul, at this point. Maybe if they would have done it early this summer, when team's had more assets and money to play with, but they're backed into a corner at this point.

That's how trades should work, but Memphis screwed it up. Crittenton was not a talented player.

1) a young talent 2) salary relief 3) draft picks

That's what all teams wanting to trade will look for.

They got Marc Gasol's rights, too. And Marc's turning into a hell of a player, so it's not nearly as one-sided as it seemed at the time.

I still dont think there is any way Nelson would be involved, unless a third team was added.

Gortat, Bass, and Anderson...are pretty much what we have to offer, in addition to VC's contract. Those players being "Keepers", if you will. Only good thing here is that they're high on both Gortat and Bass, who they tried to sign last year. But yeah, I dont love Orlando's chances compared to others. On paper, seems like a major Orlando raping for Paul.

From what i remember, Marc Gasol was the deal-breaker in that Memphis trade. They wouldn't have done it had he not been involved, and it looks like they were right in pursuing him.

He's a bigger, tougher Pau with less offensive skills. He also has a better beard. What's not to like? He'll be a good player for them for a long time.

I just see Paul in New York, even though it would be nice to see him next to Tyreke :)

Oh yeah, I forgot both Gasols were in the trade. Yeah, guess the Grizzlies were right about him.

What about this trade for NO?

NO receives:
Marcin Gortat, C
Vince Carter, SF
Daniel Orton, PF

ORL receives:
Chris Paul, PG
Emeka Okafor, C

Reasoning:
It's one of the destinations that Paul is reportedly looking for, and ORL has a big piece in Vince Carter. $17,000,000 of salary cap relief is a lot, considering the state of the Hornets franchise. They receive a quality starting C in Gortat, and a developmental piece with talent in Orton. On top of that, ORL could throw in some picks to sweeten the deal. And on top of all of this, NO gets rid of that absolutely god-awful Emeka Okafor contract.

It depends what they want to do...I figure, they need to get some real talent back in return, not just trade him for cap relief.

And Orton...oh boy. I've already lost all faith in this kid. He didnt belong on the same court with all those summer league scrubs.

Big men generally take longer to develop in the NBA. I'm not surprised at all that Orton looked bad in summer league. Orlando's team was lead by a bunch of ball hogs who never passed the ball. Plus, the dude hardly played a lick of college ball. Summer league is meaningless. Bo Outlaw was probably the greatest summer league player of all time. LOL. No wait... there was Marcus Banks. hah!

So let's kick this one off early, if CP3 goes to New York and Melo joins them next year, who has the better Big 3 in the East?

I still want to say Miami but CP3 in D'antoni's system may end the world.

Marco Belinelli... he's the one that made me lose faith and any credibility in Summer League games.

Being good is one thing in SL, putting on one of the worst showings in SL history is another thing entirely. Orton is as raw as they come. I knew he'd be raw, but I didnt expect him to be this bad.
