This is stupid. They are getting 4 players and a future draft pick for one player. It's not like they are getting a bad deal.

The Trade machine is very accurate when it comes to trades that would be doable or not due to salaries.

There had to be more pieces to the trade than ESPN was reporting.

If the salaries added up the league really had no right to veto this, regardless if they own the team or not.

This is an email that the imbecile Dan Gilbert sent to David Stern.

Quote:
It would be a travesty to allow the Lakers to acquire Chris Paul in the apparent trade being discussed.

This trade should go to a vote of the 29 owners of the Hornets.

Over the next three seasons this deal would save the Lakers approximately $20 million in salaries and approximately $21 million in luxury taxes. That $21 million goes to non-taxpaying teams and to fund revenue sharing.

I cannot remember ever seeing a trade where a team got by far the best player in the trade and saved over $40 million in the process. And it doesn’t appear that they would give up any draft picks, which might allow to later make a trade for Dwight Howard. (They would also get a large trade exception that would help them improve their team and/or eventually trade for Howard.) When the Lakers got Pau Gasol (at the time considered an extremely lopsided trade) they took on tens of millions in additional salary and luxury tax and they gave up a number of prospects (one in Marc Gasol who may become a max-salary player).

I just don’t see how we can allow this trade to happen.

I know the vast majority of owners feel the same way that I do.

When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

Dan G.

You mean like the 80s and 90s when the game was just flat out better?

The better the good teams, the higher the quality of the game. Half the teams aren't even interested in winning anyway so it really doesn't change much, there are so many teams who haven't even tried to field a winner in the past decade it's not funny. Minnesota, Clippers, Nets, Milwaukee, Memphis, New Orleans, Pacers, Toronto, Houston, Seattle(prior to moving) and Golden State amongst others haven't even pretended to be trying to win in the past half decade.

Then you have teams like Orlando and Phoenix who were happy to just be average and rake in the cash despite having a star that gave them a shot they continually made decisions based on money.

Honestly, I'd rather an NBA where those who want to win(Miami, New York(despite awful management), LA, Chicago(despite awful management for most of the decade), San Antonio and Dallas get to hoard the best players whilst those teams that are all about making money can continue to do that and those that don't really care either way can continue as well.

Why have guys like Bosh, Iguodala, Gasol, Granger and the likes who are good 2nd/3rd options wasting away as a 1st option on an awful team, who really wants to see that?

Exactly, when the owners folded like bitches and showed they didn't actually care about the product at all they lost my compassion or interest. I want the best product possible and the owners were too greedy and pathetic to get that done when they had the chance so now under this system that they voted I want the best possible product and that means super teams.

LOL at the NBA. This whole thing is a mess

how idiotic can Stern be?
they just lost how many fans due to a ridiculous lockout, and now this? Paul can't be traded anywhere now...they HAVE to force the Hornets to keep him and then let him walk

if they don't, the league looks even worse because it would look like they are dictating where players go

Other than baseball I don't think any are close. You don't think there's any parity in the NFL? Or the NHL? The Lakers and Celtics have won half the championships in the league's history, football and hockey don't come anywhere near that.

From the action, activity and drama so far, I'd say the NBA is as healthy as ever.

Wait till Dwight gets traded... When he goes to a team where he can join a legit superstar, the league will have all it's stars aligned.

Which is ironic given that they canceled it because that is what it might look like!

Why don't we go back to the 8 team league from the 50's then? It makes the regular season effectively worthless. You know which 4 teams are going to be there in the end, why not just jump right to the conference finals? Why can't the superstars show some competitiveness and try to beat eachother instead of joining up and making a superteam? It's the coward's way out.

Wait till Dwight gets traded... When he goes to a team where he can join a legit superstar, the league will have all it's stars aligned.
How has Orlando ****** this up so badly...

I mean... Orlando is a great place where lots of wealthy types live, you have the Florida taxes, sick jerseys, a new stadium, one of the richest owners and they just **** it up completely.

It's amazing how inept management can trump everything and ruin an entire franchise(look at the Knicks for a decade) and how much of a difference good management makes.

You got some good points but so does Wogi. Think the NBA would be better off contracting. Screw teams like NOLA and Toronto, no one's going to miss them anyways.

and you don't know that now? I can tell you that in 4 months of half assed games time Boston, New York, Miami, Chicago, Orlando(barring a trade) and NJ(after a trade) are going to be the teams competing in the east(probably forgetting something). In the West lets lock in Dallas, SA, LA and OKC.

The regular season is pointless and excessively long as it is, why not make the top end product(the one you show the nation) better during that time? I don't care which of the mediocre teams finishes 7th and 8th and gets knocked out by the conference finals.

You know the best thing about the lockout? A shorter regular season, less meaningless games where Detroit and Milwaukee take turns in missing layups. We get to the real games quicker, the ones that matter, the ones where the players are all trying, the ones where the stars get to shine.

There just aren't enough stars for 30 teams to have stars, why spread them over 25 teams(you always have 5 truly awful teams anyway) when we could spread them over 5-10 and actually force those other teams to do something interesting.

Back in the 80s and 90s you had teams like Denver, they didn't have the talent of other teams but they tried something different to make it interesting and had some success. Iso basketball is dead boring as a fan, I want team work, which requires teammates worth passing to or that aren't turnstiles on defense.

Just me though, maybe it comes about from supporting a team that just continually ***** it up despite the fact that we've won 3 of the 5 best lotteries to win in the last 20 years.
