No one will care in a few weeks. Shaq's absurd season in 99-00 was one vote shy of unanimous too, cause someone put Iverson #1 (similar!). But no one really knew or cared about that until yesterday when it came up cause of the same thing happening to LeBron. They just cared that Shaq was the MVP in 99.

It's a big deal because Melo isn't a top 10 MVP candidate, let alone above LeBron goddamn James.

You mean the guy shooting 38 percent (1.07 PPS, which is unbelievably pathetic), averaging less than 2 assists and being worthless as a rebounder for a PF in the playoffs is teabagging me? The FOURTH best player (at best) in the clinching game against the Celtics?

Yes, the one that faced a team without their best player and whose best players are all in their mid 30s.

I would argue that what Melo is doing with this crappy Knicks squad is more impressive than what Lebron is doing on his stacked squad.

The Knick's #2 scoring option is JR Smith... jeez...

If Washburn's vote was for KD or CP3 it wouldn't be THAT big of a deal. But no, he voted for Melo.

Knicks without Melo would be the 8th seed more than likely (at worst). Heat without LeBron would be a middle of the pack East team, as opposed to easily the best team in the NBA. LeBron added the most value to his team.

While your logic is not crazy, it's still not without some flaws.

Yes, the Heat would be a strong playoff team still but Lebron makes them immediate Title favorites. Then add in the fact that this is one of the best statistical seasons of all time by a player.

The Melo hate on here is ridiculous. The dude carried the Knicks all season. We're probably one of the 5 worst teams in the league if you take Melo off the team.

Melo absolutely deserved to be in the conversation for MVP.

I like to think that I'm the reason why the Knicks get so much hate on here.

Which is gonna be why I'm gonna enjoy it so much when we win the championship.

As I told you months ago and you did not care, Woodson is an iso ball coach. He wants Melo and JR just taking the ball and trying to make something out of nothing. It's not good basketball. You need to set up your teammates with easy looks.

It works great in the regular season but when you have to play a team 4 to 7 times in a series and they just go 100% on defense it doesn't work. It's why Pop is such a great coach. He can have TP and company score like that, but he's superb at drawing up plays to get role players and others open for easy shots.

You can't have guys playing 100% on defense during the regular season. Guys like Tony Allen do but that's because it's pretty much all he does. If you expend yourself like that during the regular season you won't make it in an 82 game season.

Wrong. Hibbert is a great defender. Factor in the intensity of a playoff game and he's looking even better. What he did last night (outside of the 6 blocks) is pretty what he does every night. He impacts shots at the rim. Just playing iso ball and having guys run at the rim is going to fail, badly. So is Melo and JR jogging up court and just jacking up shots. When Melo is on, he can do it, but it's too difficult to do every game.

It's going to be a long series. We're old. Chandler is playing like crap because he's old and injured. Our bench is too old and crappy to give us anything. Playing Melo at the 4 all season is finally backfiring. He's gotten too banged up having to play on the block and bigs all year.

Nets need a coach who will let Brook and D-Will run the pick and roll while JJ becomes the 3rd option.

The strong majority think that Lebron deserved the MVP, myself included. That's why he got 120 out of 121 votes. I'm sorry that one guy has a different opinion. It's a vote because of those differing opinions and because what defines an MVP is debatable within itself. The outcry is ridiculous. Lebron won by a landslide and that's all that matters.

For what it's worth, Gary Washburn is a decent journalist. He's not a Jemele Hill type moron.

Or maybe he's just trolling for the lolz...

Zach Lowe made this point, but Melo missed 15 games. Also, they weren't terrible without him.

I wonder if Zach Lowe thinks a 15 game projection is a fair way to predict an entire season.

15 games isn't enough to project over the whole season, but it is enough to safely assume they wouldn't be one of the five worst teams in the NBA (like bbd asserted). The Knicks managed 7 wins in 15 games without Melo, but would manage only 20 (or less) in the other 67 games? Come on now.
