Poor tippers are among the worst people on earth. If you can't afford to tip, you can't afford to eat out, period. If you tip less than 15% unless the person is just a jerk, you are a cheap bastard, and there is a reason you get poor service.

Just so all you poor tippers know, waiters remember both good and bad tippers. And we talk amongst each other. If you are a very bad tipper, you will get bad service every time you come in. If you are a good tipper, we will be polite and quick with everything. If you are an asshole and a bad tipper, I recommend you watch the movie Waiting.

I notice the other tables they have and how they are treating them. If one is obviously being a pain in the ass I will take this into account. If food is slow so what... thats not 100% in his control... in your in a huge hurry and food has to be out ASAP let him know this and he/she (should) be able to give u idea of things that take the shortest amount of time to cook.

How fast the food comes out does not indicate bad service it indicates a slow kitchen.

Being friendly funny and not an ass hole
Most importantly taking care of my needs in a reasonable fashion and NOT STEREOTYPING... I get this a lot.. college kid = zero money = no tip

My favorite excuse for tipping under 10% is i only give God 10% why should i give you more...

generally I will tip 30-40% for average service
I generally give my friends in the service industry 50-60%
I never leave nothing because the server does have to give money to other employees at the restaurant and I never want to cost a person money. So the lowest i have ever left is 3% accounting that he gives 1.5% of his sales to buss and 1.5% to the bar.

EDIT Hot Chicks always get more
I wish I could afford to give 30-40% tips for average service. But now I have to stick with 15-18%. My favorite part about TX was all I had to do was double the tax and round up and I would get about 18%.

15-20% before tax, depending on quality of service.

I tip depending on how good lookin' the chick is. :D

If you're a guy waiter... Get a real job, you deserve NO TIP!

Waiting held back too much. I used to work at Taco Bell; if you pissed any Taco Bell employee off, I wouldn't eat that food. I have done many things - spit being the nicest.

I went out with my family for dinner tonight, and I ended up paying since my parents have less money then me (Cause of bills), and I left a $18 tip on a $71 bill. About 25%. Service was good, food was great.

I tip based on the attractiveness of the waitress.

A little cleavage showing can go a long way towards a 30% tip . . .

Nah, just kidding. I don't really have a method to my tip calculation. I can recognize a server who is trying to do a good job, as well as one who is indifferent to the quality of my experience.

Some of my friends are just SO STUPID with tips. Some of them don't tip at all because they don't even know that you're supposed to tip. Others are just ridiculous and tip a whole ton of money because they're not sure how much they're supposed to give. My friends and I got a receipt for a total of $70 dollars and they gave like $105 total! Are you kidding me? 50% tip??

I used to split with the hostesses but then again we didn't really have bus boys. The hostesses and us bussed the tables

That's how it is at Ruby Tuesday's. We also have a person called QSS, who basically runs food to the tables, rolls silverware and bus tables. They get tipped out too.

No. Maybe it was because one of the kid's mother owned the restaurant.
But hey, if he owns the place shouldn't he be treating us, not us treating him? We're the guests... I don't want to sound to spoiled and greedy though.

At all the restaurents I've worked at a percentage (about 3.5%) of all our sales went to a tip pool for support staff and kitchen staff. So if a customer doesn't tip the server ends up losing money. I remember a German family that didn't tip on a $400 bill, I ended up paying about $15 so they could eat. I was sooo pissed.
