I think you are simplifying my comment a bit much. So neither is buying the other I guess.
Regardless of team or movement by the O, covering the slot requires elite quickness more than elite speed. Last I checked every team needs 1 or even 2 guys who can do this.
Baltimore, who did a great job on Welker, did it with Cory Ivy. All 5'8 180lbs of Ivy. Ivy played physical but is also quick. It worked very nicely.
To say "A CB does not fit Wade's system" is simply not reconciling with the reality that given the spread formations teams run you need really quick guys to cover the underneath stuff who can tackle. Not saying you don't need two Cromartie type guys to cover those big 6'4 WRs but to extend this to all 5 CB need to be "Cromartie like" is both impossbile (*How many elite 6'2 corners are there???) and bad player personnel bad design (*Even if elite at 6'2 -- do you really match up versus these slot guys like a Welker??).
If composing a DB backfield in today's game for WP, I would mix in 1 or 2 smaller "world class quick" guys to cover the junk underneath while getting the three "press capable" CBs to cover the 2 WRs plus slide over to play Free Safety.
So to me, you need both types of CB to play in the NFL right now. The one template "WP wants big" is just not right IMHO.
TNew, to me, is a tweener but I think he is much better with smaller receivers. I think he covers Steve Smith much better than a Randy Moss. If we could get a "Cromartie type" guy and have a rotation of Reeves, Newman (cover quicker guys) Henry and Unnamed (cover bigger guys) I think you have balance and flexibility in D design.
Starters are Newman/Unknow/Hamlin and Watkins
Bench = Henry, Reeves, Roy Williams and Courtney Brown
As 12, 21, 02, 01, 22 packages are introduced you design player packages to meet those demands and then mix in Cover 0/1/2/3/4, Full Man, Full ZOne, etc..
But ack, I hate this stuff....... you get the idea.
