Not coming back to the dance in '08:
Titans
Steelers
Redskins
Buccaneers
I'd like to say Packers as well... but that would depend a lot on the Vikings continuing to improve (quite possible) and the Bears doing something intelligent at QB (very unlikely, they seem quite happy with their 20+ year streak of mediocrity at this position).

The point of all of this is YES you will still finish last in the AFC west in 2008, YES we will still finish first, Yes it's true you have not beaten us in what 3 or 4 straight seasons now, and YES your ex head coach that you guys loved to blame all the losses and disfunction on just took us to the AFC championship game. I would have loved to see where he would have taken us if our 2 best players were not hurt.
1 question... Does all that "past glory" really help every "present" sunday when you are mourning another loss to Denver, Kansas City or San Diego?
|
You actually credit Norv Turner for taking an inherited team to a conference championship game which you lost? I hate to break it to you but all Norv did was stand on the sideline with his thumb up his ass and watch Cottrell turn things around by calling more agressive plays with the defense, that was the difference maker in the playoffs. Plus on top of that you weren't without your 2 best players, you were missing one and he could have played and pussied out, he had no heart. Even at 40% LT would have served as a decoy at least. On top of that Rivers being injured didn't see to effect him much considering all he had to do was drop back, it's not like he's a guy who makes a lot happen with his feet.
Yes the Raiders were great 30 years ago, around that time we were winning our first SB, something the lame Chargeless have never done, even in their last few years of "glory" that have produced nothing but disappointment. Live it up now, because your success is a product of teams on their downside more than your team actually being dominant in any way, and that's why you can't win a damn championship.
Run your mouth when your team does anything impressive anytime soon, otherwise shut up and enjoy sitting at home in February just like the Chargers and Raiders have the last 4 years.

Cowboys would have actually been my pick too, after Redskins, Titans and Buccs.
They just have a really strong division and looked really sloppy at the end of the season

I really don't want to keep going back and fourth with you. I never said that these are the Chargers "glory years" all I said was that it was a totally stupid comment (by someone else I believe) to say they west was "up for grabs". Maybe once Al Davis kicks the bucket or loosens his death grip from the teams neck you guys have a chance. Until then enjoy heading into september knowing you have another 4-12 season to look forward to. You do have championships to lean on and remember (if you were even around to remember them) but I have competitive football to watch every sunday during the season and a realistic shot at winning a championship going into 2008.

Right now, I don't think more than one team comes out of the AFC North and the AFC West each, given the schedules involved and some rebuilding back up. The division crowns are going to be important in those instances.

AFC
New England Patriots- They will be in the playoffs, for sure.
Jacksonville Jaguars- If David stays healthy, they go to the playoffs.
Tennessee Titans- No way, Vince Young is over rated and they will sink.
San Diego Chargers- Strong young team, they will go to the playoffs.
Pittsburgh Steelers- Oh god I hope they dont make, I hate the Steelers... but I admit, they are tough.
NFC
Dallas Cowboys- They are in, too much talent.
New York Giants- That defensive line is brutal, their offense is solid if Manning plays well. They go back to the playoffs.
Washington Redskins- Nope, they were a fluke this year. They played this season with a ton of heart, for Taylor. Next year they will be the Redskins again.
Green Bay Packers- Great defense, weapons on offense, they are in the playoffs.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Garcia is getting older and slower, their team is older and slower... They dont make it.
Seattle Seahawks- They don't make it, the NFC West is won by another team next year.

I'm not a big believer in Atlanta continuing the amazing trend of worst to first though.

heh, what's with all the 'VY sucks, they won't make it' stuff?
Yeah, because they needed perfect play from VY to make it this season
This sounds remarkably like last offseason all over again.

Exactly. But it worked for us last season, so hopefully it will again this year. Everyone keep saying how bad we will be!

Not to be hating on the seahawks or anything, but i think that either Arizona or even San Francisco will win that divison. My bet is Arizona, but if San Francisco actually found a good quarterback and reciever, there is no question that Seahawks wouldn't win the division.

I'll tell you a non-playoff team that is definitely going to make it, the Rams. I mean look at em, they got coaches, they got players, they got jerseys. It's undeniable, chalk it up.

If you examine the last 10 years, you'll find that between 5 to 8 new teams make the playoffs every year, why, because the NFL is a schedule/QB league. If you have a true franchise QB, there is an excellent chance that you can overcome any difficult schedule and return to the playoffs. If a playoff team lacks a franchise QB, then the odds of returning to the playoffs diminish considerably and a more difficult schedule will send you out of the playoffs. For example, the NFL East has 4 pretty tough teams and every year the conferences they play changes and new conferences have to play them. In this senerio, the conferences that picked up the NFL East will only send 1 team to the playoffs, there is almost no chance that a wild card will come from those conferences. Likewise the conferences that got rid on the NFL East will have an excellent shot at getting a wild card team or 2.
If you examine which conferences picked up stronger conferences on their schedule, you will be able to judge much better which teams won't return to the playoffs.

i thikn the steelers will miss.. they did not impress me at all this year.. not nearly as much as the browns at least. its a tough division but i think cleveland heads into this season confident and power there way to the playoffs (barring major injuries)
from the nfc i think the saints go over the bucs, hopefully they get a good system going with bush/mcallister
its to hard to tell now im sure the draft and fa will impact everyones decision on here

Cowboys not making the playoffs?? Wow, thats going to the extreme, how do you get a hangover as some claimed from losing the 1st rd of the playoffs? If anything that makes you hungry to want to get back, I understand people hate the cowboys but going from 13 wins to 8 the next season with pretty much the same roster in tact next year? Dont buy it, wildcard team is possible because things change with injuries but there is no way in a one year span we get that bad...
Either way if that were the case Garrett would be HC and we wouldnt have to worry about losing him.

Tennessee - no, very average team, someone like Houston or Cleveland will beat them out next year.
Green Bay - no, lucky team this year, snuck by a LOT of teams in the beginning of the year and didnt look good, looked alright at the end, but 07 was one of Betty's better seasons, I see him more like the 06 version of Betty, IF he comes back.
Seattle - no, i doubt them every year and every year they suck themselves into the playoffs because AZ, St. Louis, and San Fran find a way to absolutely suck. So, Ill go with the usually that one of those teams will FINALLY step up and prevent Seattle from losing in the playoffs, yet again.
Skins - a mediocre team going through tons of changes and in a tough division, I see them at .500 and losing out to another team for a WC spot.

same here, in the nfc south it seems that the division champion canīt come back to make the the P/O . for the titans i doubt their defense will be this strong next year.
