Saints | Team places franchise tag on Faine
Thu, 21 Feb 2008 12:55:01 -0800
Jim Henderson, of WWLTV, reports the New Orleans Saints placed the franchise tag on C Jeff Faine Thursday, Feb. 21. The tag guarantees Faine a one-year deal worth $2.2 million. This is the first time the Saints have used the franchise tag since 2002.
I got this from another message board. Not sure if it's true.

It can't be true. Offensive lineman are put together in one category, there is no specific price for guards, tackles, and centers. The price to tag an OL this year is $7.5 million so if he was franchised that's what he'll be paid. That is insane to pay a center that much so I have a feeling he wasn't actually franchised.

Yeah, I agree. It has to be fake. No way the Saints would franchise Jeff Faine. Someone is trying to be funny.

Exactly, and I think he is genuinely happy here, and I don't think knowing that Tom Brady will be throwing you the ball hurts much.

The Honor of being on a team that went 18-1.

If you had a choice of suffering through another pathetic, losing season or going 18-1, having your best statistical season of your already illustrious career and going to your first Super Bowl, which would you choose? I am 110% convinced that every single person alive chooses to go through the Patriots season over the Raiders season EVERY SINGLE TIME.
Grow up.

As a fan, I'd rather take the Raiders' season, simply because history will remember the team that couldn't get it done for a long time (though not forever, since very few people ever mention the Sneakers Game or the 1942 Chicago Bears). As a player, I'm not sure which one I'd rather deal with, because the problem lies in you still are going to try to win and want to win even when you're completely out of it, but at the same time there's very little left to play for.
Anyway, I wonder what type of contract teams like the Jaguars, Titans, 49ers, and/or Buccaneers would be willing to throw at Moss. All of these teams have over $30 million in cap room to work with, and all badly need a #1 WR.
