Good stuff from the NFL Owners meetings from Coach McCarthy:

On Peppers role:

"Elephant is a term used for a multiple-position player along the defensive front," McCarthy told reporters at the league meetings. "Julius will be part of that group."

'In preparing for that role, Peppers will spend most of his individual practice time and meeting sessions with the linebackers'

It seems Peppers, Neal, & Perry will be manning the elephant, potentially with 2 or 3 on the field at the same time.

On Raji:

'McCarthy confirmed that recently re-signed lineman B.J. Raji will return to his old position, nose tackle. Raji played more at defensive end the past three seasons, when his productivity waned. McCarthy said the plan for Raji will be to "cut him loose."'

Full article over in the packers thread at espn.com.

So what are you guys thinking the O-Line is going to be with Bulaga back and Dietrich-Smith gone?

Early indications would be Bahk-sitton-tretter/barclay-lang-bulaga with sherrod as a swing tackle and the competition at center during training camp. Might sign a vet to compete at center as well...not sure who's out there though. Or even try lang at center and if Sherrod shows some good progress he could compete at guard.

Barring injuries (ahem) here are my odds.

LT -
Bahktiari - 90%
Sherrod - 5%
Bulaga - 5%

LG -
Sitton - 100%

Center -
Tretter 50%
Barclay 30%
Draftee 20%

RG -
Lang 100%

RT -
Bulaga 90%
Bahktiara 5%
Barclay 5%

Barclay coming away with the Center spot is my darkhorse pick. I think he is better suited there than at tackle if he can get snapping down. But I also think they really like Tretter there, and so do I.

Love those odds.
Such a shame Tretter got hurt.... so damn early last year.
Could have used some game experience.

Mike McGlynn, backup center for the Indianapolis Colts last year, is in Green bay for a visit. I suppose, if signed, he'll be competing with Tretter for the starting job.

Very little guaranteed money.

I would think Capers would have loved to have him with his experience back there.

Spring doesn't really start until Clay is in some kind of horrific accident. Guy really has some bad luck.

Wouldn't it be such a Packers thing if one of our young, star players got severely injured playing golf?

This guy is the same size as Dion Bailey.
Bailey ran a 4.6 at his combine. This guy a 4.34.
This guy jumped 6 inches higher than Bailey.

And he could be had for veteran minimum now, and he's been very durable, available, as McCarthy calls it.

I think we should take a look at him.
There's no risk.
Our safeties currently suck ballz.

He might just be bad.
But that's still an upgrade over what we rolled out there last season.

The main problem with Huff is that he absolutely sucks. He's as bad or worse than our current safeties. Clemons was far superior and signed basically a vet min contract, so we're not going the FA route.

Also, let's calm down a bit on combine stats. Dion Bailey, on film, is much quicker than 4.6. He ran poorly at the combine. He runs very well on film.

He played very well transitioning back to safety and could blossom even more at that position under NFL coaching.

Huff has now failed with two different NFL teams. He sucks.

The problem I found in investigating Huff was that it was all mental with him.
He wasn't fearless. He wasn't aggressive.

He still has the physical skills, but lacks the desire to be great. That's about it.
Sad. A waste of some God-given talent there.
But he made his $.

Just another smart, conservative signing by TT.

Kuhn is one of the best pass blocking RB/FBs in the entire league and has a little value in the red zone with his ability to sneak out and catch passes with a good eye for the end zone.

He's really the best option we have on 3rd and 5+ yards when the threat of running is gone. Lacy was good as a pass protector but Starks is terrible at it and Kuhn gives us the ability to rest Lacy in those situations.

The offense is coming together very nicely this offseason. Really just need to find a starting TE (easier said than done, I suppose) and we should have the deadliest offense in the league.

The more thought I give it the more I think TT is destined to pick Austin Seferian-Jenkins.

At one point he was touted as being a high first round pick but certainly fell off last year. But he has all the physical tools you could ask for. Has character and effort concerns.

Similar to another TE pick of recent years, Jermichael Finley. He's the sort of project likely to drop that TT covets.

Can I sell anyone on this:

Missing Jermichael Finley was more damaging than missing anyone else in that loss to the 49ers in the Wildcard game at Lambeau.
Including Matthews, Shields, Perry, Neal, Bulaga.

Our defense was not to blame, allowing 23 points.
Our offense, with the OL in-tact all year, and Lacy, Jordy, Jones & Cobb, should have been able to score 24 or more points.

I submit that missing the TE threat was what we missed most that game.
It allowed their LBs to not have to worry about it.

For all his issues, Finley adds a dimension that nobody else could give is. Had a ripple effect.

But he was missing Jermichael as the threat at TE, down the seem and wide, allowing the ILBs and safeties to cheat in a little bit and bottle up Lacy.

I know we won the Super Bowl without Jermichael Finley 3 years ago, but that was with a great Greg Jennings and a great defense when you had Collins and Woodson back there plus Cullen Jenkins.

Losing 23-20, it's hard to fault the defense for this one as a Rodgers-Lacy-Jordy-Cobb-Jones offense should be able to score more than 23, especially at home.

The offense put up goose-eggs in both the opening quarter, and the 3rd quarter. Zips.

[b]Rodgers only threw for 177 yards, 50 less than Colin Kaepernick.
Kaepernick also ran for 98 yards.
Kaepernick performed better than Rodgers did all things considered.

If TT were to trade up for Ebron, I don't think I'd be upset.

At one point he was touted as being a high first round pick but certainly fell off last year. But he has all the physical tools you could ask for. Has character and effort concerns.

Similar to another TE pick of recent years, Jermichael Finley. He's the sort of project likely to drop that TT covets.
as a husky fan i would love this. he didn't really have a place in the washington offense this past year. which is unfortunate as a fan but fortunate for whoever gets him at a bargain price, which i hope is us.
