Suggs to be franchised
Looks like Suggs won't be on the FA market. I guess I was wrong about this one, but I don't get how they can franchise him with the LB tag and not the DE tag, when he plays so much DE in that defense. It's not like most other 3-4 teams because the Ravens switch their base so much.

I told everybody this was gonna happen, because Ozzie said this at the beginning of last year after negotiations fell through.

how do they determine which position the player is franchised under? Is it % of snaps at the position? Seems like it could be debatable for some guys, and the team would obviously want it to be the lower costing of the two, whereas the player would want the opposite.
Any insight?

Per the Baltimore Sun the Ravens currently have $5 million to $6 million in cap space. So they'll need to do some work to make room for Suggs.

Not surprising... Is the third best player in Ravens' defense (Ray Lewis and Ed Reed).

Chris McAlister had problems with injuries, but Ngata and Gregg are also great players. I'd say the Ravens have the #2 defense in the NFL.

Yeah but there are way more LBs Id take over Suggs, than CBs I would take over Mac.

Suggs should have a bounceback year. I can't explain his disappearing act this year. Its just one of those things. Consistency out of a DE isn't always easy.

Don't forget Ogden, we need to get him to retire also, and getting rid of Bart Scott would be nice also.

I'd be willing to bet its way more than 6 mil, prolly up around 10 mil.

The Ravens defense isn't what it used to be... Thats not saying theyre horrible, but its not the same defense where you go into the game thinking you'd be lucky to get two touchdowns, this year the Ravens defense wasn't really scary.
Old age and injuries played an effect in some of that, but that's part of football, I really don't know if they're the #1/2 defense in the league any more.

I was interested in seeing his development as well. I remember thinking to myself how a 6'9 330 guy can run a sub 5 second 40 and was just impressed.
