per pft
Panthers G.M. Marty Hurney told Steve Reed of CarolinaGrowl.com on Tuesday that the team will "look into" free-agents Muhsin Muhammad and Alge Crumpler.

Vikings released FS Dwight Smith.
He would've cost the Vikings $3.1 million in 2008 and Brad Childress had enough of Smith's off-field antics. Minnesota's pass defense was also very mediocre last year. Smith may struggle to find a starting job in free agency.

I think Smith will find a home somewhere. People like to point at the safties in Minnesota, but the lack of a consistant pass-rush is as big of a problem as any. I wouldn't mind him on the Bears, though with Danieal Manning I doubt it will happen.
I also think Smith would be better off by not playing in a Tampa 2 system. He's got very good man coverage skills for a safety.

Texans released LB Shawn Barber.
Houston guaranteed Barber $2.2 million last offseason, and he made no impact. Zach Diles will take over the fourth linebacker role he signed to fill.

Can he play SS? We desperately need a SS who can play man coverage, particularly against TEs, can offer good run support and play a decent deep zone.

Carolina Panthers release RB DeShaun Foster.
I lol'ed at the recent story that the Panthers were shopping Foster and three teams were interested (a fine example of BS).

Per PFT
We're hearing multiple rumblings from our connections at the Scouting Combine that the Seahawks could be cutting running back Shaun Alexander soon.
A media source told us moments ago that the move could come "in the next couple of days."

I know he's not the back that he once was but I think he'd do well in a two back system.

We definitely don't need Crumpler as much as some are making him out to be. I much rather us save money and just use Billy Miller more.

We need a TE. But im not sure Crumpler will fit in with Sean..He is not in to lazy players. A crumpler is known for that. And it looks like he and Moose are going to the panthers.

thank you , i cant believe the panic of some saints fan when there is a player on the FA market who scored ones a TD against us about a decade ago. there is a reason the falcons weren´t interested in resigning him .... he is a little overrated and old.

Per PFT
Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the Philadelphia Eagles will be releasing defensive end Jevon Kearse.
Per Schefter, Kearse was offered a pay cut, but a deal to keep him at a reduced salary could not be reached. He was due to earn a base salary of $6.46 million in 2008.
