well, i like this trade for both teams. the browns get a great young player that can step in immediately (which is more than they probably would've gotten with that draft pick) and the packers were 6 deep at DT, so they'd be foolish NOT to trade somebody. good trade all around.

I doubt any team is going to fork over that much in compensation. That said, is an RFA tender like a franchise tag in that teams can work out different levels of compensation than specified by the rules? If so, he could get a 1st or high 2nd.

I like this deal a lot for Corey, the Tommy Kelly deal didn't effect this, and he doesn't have to live up to ridiculous expectations of a huge deal. This is an extremely fair contract for both sides.

There are 4 different RFA tenders. Not sure the exact numbers but each carries a different pick compensation.

Yes, this trade worked out great for both parties so far. Green Bay can add a nice young prospect with the 56th overall pick, and the Browns get a very good young DT to play left end in their 3-4 which fills their biggest need by far.

Is there a cap penalty for trading a big-money player in exchange for a draft pick? If not, Madden once again falls short.

Williams' contract was the Franchise Tag which doesn't include a signing bonus so there is no penalty.

I guess it's how you look at it. The premise of the offseason, in terms of free agency and the Draft, is talent acquisition. For the Browns, they have the cap space and the willingness to pull the trigger on acquiring experienced players in the league.

Well they did pick up two defensive players still in their 20's, and their offense is already at the top half of the league, so i wouldnt be concerned about the picks...Although, with no picks in the first 3 rounds, I would of been trying to shop Anderson for his tender.

its not about th picks. its about our quarterback situation. if we want to go further with anderson we are going to put vets around him and see what he can really do. if we draft players that take a couple years to develop then you wont get a good understanding of da as a qb. with quinn waiting in the wings we wanna see what da can do with a solid team before we make a franchise descion and go to quinn

Last year, the work and the investment that went into the offensive line, capped off by the drafting of Joe Thomas, paid off and the Browns offense exploded because of it. Edwards, Winslow, and Lewis are big reasons for success, but don't overlook the importance of Cleveland's OL imo in making Anderson look as good as he did. They definitely deserve credit for the offense finally living up to potential.
Maybe the Browns aim to do the same thing this year, with the defensive line. Plus with a 3-4, a lot of success is predicated on the effectiveness of the front three.

I really doubt teams will be able to run on us as easy with:
Shaun Smith 6'2 325
Shaun Rogers 6'4 360
Corey Williams 6'4 320
As apposed to last year with:
Robaire Smith
Shaun Smith
Orpheous Roye
Savage knows you win in the trenches.

Not as bad as the Browns' draft history up until recently...

I dont mind losing our picks one bit.
We gauranteed instant upgrades, something the draft cannot do.

Well, there isn't anything guaranteeing that Rodgers and Williams will be great successes in Cleveland. Brady Quinn for that matter too. I'm not saying that these are bad trades for the Browns, because I think they all are good deals one way or another but only time will tell if they were the right moves and if they resulted in instant upgrades.

Williams said in his press conference that he couldnt wait to get out of Green Bay. When they asked him why he said that topic was for another day. He mentioned he was really dissapointed when he was tendered becaue he didnt want to play for that team anymore.
Any clue what this was about Green Bay fans?
