http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/8043460/Chiefs'-Allen-talking-with-Vikings,-Bucs
Quote:
Jared Allen's days with the Chiefs appear to be numbered.
Allen, the NFL's reigning sack leader, told FOXSports.com that the Vikings and Buccaneers have held trade talks with the Chiefs and he anticipates a deal will get done prior to next week's draft.

I heard Childress was being considered to coach the US Olympic bobsled team. They figure he can get a team to go downhill faster than anyone.

I wouldn't mind either. I imagine it would take at least a first rounder.

I would give up a 1st for him without any hesitation. He would come in here and make an immediate impact, and makes us contenders. we could use our other first day picks to target a OT, TE, S or even another young DE with some potential. I say YES! we need to jump on this if we get the chance.

I think it would take a 1st and 3rd. Luckily we have two thirds so we have the ammo to pull the trigger on this trade. Allen gives us a star DE who I think will be better then every DE thats comes out of this draft from day one and in the long run. We could then use our 2nd to go OT and the other 3rd to go TE. If we can actually pull this off it will be an incredible pick up for us.

Allen on Vikings’ radar; Udeze to appear at benefit
April 17th, 2008 – 12:07 PM by Judd Zulgad The Vikings search for a pass-rushing defensive end could land them Kansas City’s Jared Allen. An NFL source confirmed to the Star Tribune that the Vikings are holding trade talks to obtain Allen, who led the NFL with 15.5 sacks in 2007
Allen told Foxsports.com that he is flying to Minnesota this weekend to visit with the Vikings. Allen also said the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are in the mix. The Chiefs placed the franchise tag on Allen in February, meaning Allen would stand to make almost $9 million in 2008 (the average of the five highest-paid defensive ends in the NFL).
That might be more than the rebuilding Chiefs (4-12 in 2007) want to invest in a player. Acquiring Allen would be a huge boost for a Vikings team that lacks depth at the end positions and was unable to land Justin Smith, Antwan Odom or Jevon Kearse in free agency. The Vikings have not had a defensive end with 10 or more sacks since the 2004 season and the team leaders (Ray Edwards, Kenechi Udeze and Ben Leber) each had five last season.
Udeze, the Vikings’ starting left end, won’t play in 2008 after being diagnosed with a form of leukemia this offseason. Erasmus James, a first-round pick in 2005, is question mark after battling knee injuries the past two seasons.
“It’s a situation that works out best for both sides,” Allen told the Fox website. “I can go to a team that is competing for a championship right now. The Chiefs can get valuable draft picks to rebuild with.”
The question becomes how much would the Vikings be willing to give up in a trade and how much would they want to pay Allen? There is no doubt the Chiefs will ask for Minnesota’s first-round pick in this month’s draft — the Vikings are set to select No. 17 overall. It’s been assumed the Vikings would target a defensive end in the draft such as Florida’s Derrick Harvey with that selection.
Update: ESPN is reporting the Vikings are considering offering their first- and second-round picks in 2009.
Allen has had off-the-field issues; he was suspended the first two games because of multiple drunken driving convictions. Allen said in a February interview that he has quit drinking.
Vikings officials declined to comment on the Allen situation.
– Udeze, who hasn’t spoken publicly since being diagnosed with leukemia in February, will discuss the need for bone marrow donors at Winter Park on Friday. The Vikings are playing host to metro-area soccer teams for what is being called the “Great American Soccer Marrowthon.” The 24 hours of soccer, which will feature local teams, will help support the Twin Cities-based National Marrow Donor Program.

Thats from Startribune.com
We would be giving up our 1st and 2nd next year for him which might be worth it if he helps us in pass rush we could be in the playoffs and it wouldnt that big of a lost.

I would give up my 1st and 2nd for sure. Looking at the draft I really doubt we were going to find a starting DE and OT with our 1st and 2nd picks unless Harvey and Sam Baker fall, which would never happen. I would rather use those two picks to trade for a guy that is a sure fire solution to our pass rush problems. If this happens I think the draft is a success, regardless of what happens with our other picks.

Well it would be next year's 1st and 2nd not this years so we could still draft a DE to put on the other side of him this year. But if this plays out and we get Jared Allen we have to go OL in the first to sure up that right side and have someone there to take Mounts place if he gets suspended or goes to jail.

It said next year's 1st and 2nd gonzo, I don't know if thats on top of this years 1st(I would hope not). However I would love if that happened we could keep our 1st this year use our extra 3rd move up get one of the top OT's and use our 1st and 2nd next year to get the DE we sorely need.
I'd give em our 2nd this year our 1st next year and our 2nd next year.

I have been thinking we go O-Line for a while now. I don't think Harvey falls and if we get Allen that OT becomes our biggest need. If we can get a guy like Otah and maybe Keller in the 2nd it would be perfect. Let's say we trade for Allen and Harvey falls I say we jump all ovr him at 17. A D-line of Allen/Williams/Williams/Harvey gives us the best D-Line in the league right now. If we get Allen the possibilities are endless. Because Pass Rush is such a big need trading for him will improve the team immensly.

Balls on fire, I thought someone just accidently posted in an old thread.
I'm sure I wasn't the only one Praying the Chiefs wouldn't franchise Allen earlier, and I'm sure I wasn't the only one who sighed - yeah, okay, I cried, I cried like a wee little gurl, wanna fight about it? - when they did franchise him. Seriously: I would've rather signed Allen than Moss. Seriously. Can't believe they wanna trade him now...but I'm sure as **** happy about it.
I'd give up a 1st and a 3rd - don't care if it's this year or next - but I don't think we should give up two 1sts, or a 1st and a 2nd, or something like that. The guy is a drunk after all.
Also - glad to see the Accountabilty back; I guess D-dubs aren't a bad thing if you weren't here for them. Or you're Kevin Williams. Hahah, I love the ******** teams try to feed fans about "good guys". I don't give a ****, personally, about his D-dubs - I'm just saying, this Accountabilty **** Chilly shovels is going to be harder to shovel if they trade a 1st for a serial drunk driver...
Still hope they do it. Allen, Williams, Williams, DE TBD would be A-Okay by me. ****, who would teams double team!? Who?! Talkin' bout pick ya poison.

Well if they traded for Allen the starting D-line would look like RDE:Jared Allen UT:Kevin Williams NT:Pat Williams LDE:Ray Edwards

Looks good to me and I would also switch in Robison in on a couple of downs for Edwards. He seems like a good pass rusher and Who I think would benefit from Allen if he became a viking.

Oh of course robison would in the rotation as a pass rush specialist but unless he bulked up and got stronger this offseason he isn't ready to be the full time starter at LDE.

Don't forget, we also have Erasmus James. Maybe one year we won't be injured.

I don't expect anything from Erasmus anymore(other than he is likely to get hurt) anything he can offer would be a huge plus he actually looked pretty good when he played last year for 1 game :|.

I think between erasmus ray edwards and robison we have more than enough talent for LDE and if we were allowed to keep our 08 first we should take chris williams i'd be ecstatic.
please god give us jared alln thxbye

One problem: He's one league violation from being suspended for a year.
While I'd love to have a player like him, a big contract + suspension risk + giving up at least one early draft pick = pass

that is a valid point, but he has been out of trouble since his last stint, and claims to have given up drinking.... so who knows

He's also scheduled to meet with Tampa.

We haven't had a legitimate defensive end since Chris Doleman was around.
It's time to fill that void for good.
Jared Allen baby. He'd be our version of Reggie White IN HIS PRIME!
Do it, man! = )
I'd rather have him than an over the hill Taylor or Harvey.

We missed on Smith and Odom I don't know if we will let Allen get away. It sounds like we are willing to give up a lot to get him. I think he would be a great fit in our defense especially playing next to the 2 Williams, his pressure would also help take the heat off our secondary. I think we have to push hard to get him.

if they do deal for him they would probably put a clause of some sort in his new longterm contract that would recoup some salary if he were to get suspended
at least i think they would

I think the Vikings will most likely be the ones to trade for him if he is traded. We have the ammo and the need and the orginaization knows that DE is our greatest need.
