And I prefer the bruiser. Forter has more speedier back tendencies than he does power back ones.
Plus, if he should get hurt or something (god forbid...) I'd feel better having the bruiser taking the full load backing up him than a speed guy.

Wolfe is supposed to be a "home run threat." Heh.
To hell with that, I'm with BeerBaron. Gimme a solidly built punishing back. That's something we don't have on the roster.

Forte is a "speedy back"? What are you smoking?

Wolfe was supposed to be but I think Forte surprised everyone with his every down back capabilities. We don't need a guy who can come in on 3rd downs and take a draw or something......Forte has all that covered.
We need a guy who can come in for 2 or 3 series every game, punish defenders, grind out some tough yards and tire out the defensive front, and then that'll slow everyone up for Forte to come in after a breather and use his patience and balance and all that good stuff he does.

He runs with vision and balance, and is patient and lets holes develop.
I don't know that I've ever seen him straight up run someone over.
And how many "power backs" have you ever heard of who led their team in receiving?
Forte has more speed tendencies than power ones. Stick that one in your pipe.

That doesn't in any way make him a speed back. What did he run at the combine, a 4.6? We need someone that will stretch the field, either on the ground or in the air. Marion Barber works great for the Cowboys because they have so much speed and explosiveness around him.
If you want to see something run something over, watch a nature video.

Given where we play and the competency of the rest of the offense, a back to come in and just flat our run guys over would serve a better purpose imo.
And back to my backup RB point, if Forte went down, I'd rather have the reigns go to a power back full time than a speed back. I'd hate to turn into the Eagles and be unable to pick up the first in short yardage situations while trying to have a 4.30 RB sledge the ball in....

Even CJ Spiller only runs .06 faster. ;)

excuse me, I forgot the 6... 4.46
He has a great burst, which probably gives him a better time then you'd expect. He's certainly not slow, but he's got enough speed to be a top back in the league.
EDIT: Damn you both, beat me by a minute. Okay, so I missed the 6, SUE ME!

Not bad, though I'd prefer getting a G earlier than the 7th if it can be worked in. Pretend someone really traded up and gave us a 4th too and give us Cedric Dockery there.

Check my edit. I messed up and forgot our second 2nd rounder from my trade down. It changed everything and we ended up with Trevor Canfield. We got a good guard now.

Eh, give me Ramses over Robiskie with a late 2nd rounder. The ceiling is much much higher on the "Pharaoh".

Forte is well rounded enough to where a speed back or a bruiser would both be good compliments. I hope we look at Lamont Jordan in FA.

Matt Forte is more Thomas Jones than he is a bruiser. That said ... the type of number 2 back we should seek should depend on who the Offensive Coordinator is. If the Offensive Coordinator is Ron Turner, I'd rather see a big, physical guy. If we switch offensive coordinators, then perhaps you hope for a Spiller type (I doubt Spiller himself turns pro, though, because of his relationship with Dabo Swinney).
One thing I do know is that I don't want it to be a repeat of a couple years ago and Garrett Wolfe. Whoever we get needs to be able to somewhat step in, even if it is in tandem with someone else, if Forte goes down.

My Early Big Board
Michael Crabtree
Matt Stafford
Brian Orakpo
Andre Smith
Michael Johnson
Michael Oher
Taylor Mays
Eugene Monroe
Jason Smith
Aaron Curry
William Moore
Everette Brown
Greg Hardy
James Laurinaitis
Duke Robinson
Kenny Britt
Darrius Heyward-Bey
Jeremy Maclin
The smaller names are unlikely
Whether we go DE, S, OL, or WR, I'm sure I'll be happy considering all the great players in this deep draft. I'd prefer not to go WR round 1.
If we find a way to get Taylor Mays, I'd be thrilled; one of my favorite prospects and would fill a definite need.

Everette Brown and Greg Hardy should be above Michael Johnson.

We are picking 18th for those of you that are unaware. Likely a very good position for us to trade down, as the contracts are smaller and there are always a few guys that certain teams will consider last remaining elite talent. I believe that's where Houston was last year when they traded down with Baltimore who selected Joe Flacco.
From that trade the Texans got the 26th, 89th and 173rd pick. I would take that.

We could move up to 17th if the Chargers win a few.

The Chargers would have to win the AFC. That seems pretty unlikely.

yeah.....unlikely.
but keep in mind that them even making the playoffs was rather unlikely just 3 weeks ago. I don't know if I'd be all that surprised if they made a run.
