Braylon also doesn't have Peyton Manning throwing to him.

Oh I agree, Braylon definitely has the potential to be a perennial probowler for years to come, he just had his breakout year though so I wouldn't quite put him ahead of guys like Owens, or even Fitzgerald or Boldin just yet.

I'm not saying he is just average. Steve Smith doesn't have anyone throwing him the ball, and is a proven great player. Braylon has potential, but is not close to Smith.

Not close? Mmmmmmmk. 1200 yards, 16 ypc and 16 TD doesn't do much for you I guess.

Edwards has one year above 1,000 yards and all of a sudden he's better than a player how won the triple crown the last time he had a healthy QB for 16 games.

That's enough from the Braylon Edwards homers now.

Smith won the triple crown in '05... You can't keep bringing it up. Thing is he hasn't really produced recently, so one could argue Edwards is the better player right now.

Not saying he is.

how much does past history really matter in football? bodies take so much of a beating every season that players are almost entirely different physically in the span of just a couple of years.

Not saying he is.
In 06 he missed 2 games, missed delhomme for 3 or 4 and still got over 1,000 yards easily.

Last year he had a 4th string QB, David Carr, Testaverde missed a game and still had over 1000 yards, despite having no other offensive support.

Edwards is good, but he's not even top 5 yet.

Who did Steve Smith have throwing him the ball? Vinny Testeverde, David Carr, Matt Moore, Brett Basenaez. You wanna play the "Braylon doesn't have Peyton Manning." He's in a magnificent situation compared to Smith. Larry Fitzgerald has Matt Leinart throwing him the ball and put up better numbers than Edwards. You're a homer and you need to wake up.

I think you're a bit optimistic with Calvin Johnson, McFadden is rediculous if you mean Bryant and WAAAY early if you mean Darren and Greg Jennings reeks of homerism.

If you put Adrian Peterson in your top 10, you should have Hutchinson ahead of him. There's a reason most of his success came on the left side.

Arizona threw the ball 45 more times than Cleveland did. Braylon also faced a lot more double teams than Fitzgerald did.

uhh i'm gonna have to call BS on that one.

Fitz: 100 1409 15.5 10
Braylon: 80 1289 16.1 16

I'd rather have the guy with 16 TD's...

You think Braylon sees a lot of double coverage... Its been Smith's gripe in Carolina since 2005. He's always produced.

I've never doubted Steve Smith. I was alluding to Larry Fitzgerald, not Steve Smith. Not that I really "doubt" any of them.

Steve Smith isn't getting a lot of love, say what you will about any player on the panthers, just don't omit steve smith from discussions amongst top players in the NFL, or Jon Beason as one of the best young defenders in the league.

I could care less if you called peppers a bum in the same breath.

Top ten players imo:

1a. Tom Brady 1b. Peyton Manning

The consensus two best Qbs in the NFL right now. Neither imo is better than the other in most aspects of the game. I give Brady the edge in poise but Manning gets the nod in overall game reading ability.

3. LaDanian Tomlinson week in and week out he's the metrenome of performance, he can take any pass or touch to the house and has never failed to perform when needed.

4. Steve Smith The LT of Wide receivers. When called upon he does the job. He gets inside the head of his opponents, fights hard and has single handedly destroyed the best defenses of the past few years.

5. Brian Urlacher Consensus number one LBer in the NFL and one of the best players in the cover two defense. People don't realise how hard this defense can be for middle linebackers, the athleticism required just to be average in the system is incredible.

6. Osi Umenyiora A brilliant defensive end who could just be the best in the league if he can stay healthy and do the job without another dominant force across from him.

7. Champ Bailey The league's best cover cornerback bar none.

8. Brian Dawkins An intimidating ball hawk who can run with any tight end and deliver knock out hits to anyone within his range.

9. Mike Vrabel A former spot playing bust, he's risen to be an elite outside linebacker in new england, he can do it all, cover, tackle, blitz and even play tight end.

10. Randy Moss Changes any offense from potent to explosive as he did in New England last year. He is 10th because despite his amazing ability he's a bum and only plays when there's something in it for him. His numbers might be some of the best all time, but he'll never play with the passion the other receiver on this list plays with on every down. For that reason while he's one of the best receivers he's one of the worst team mates.

Wow, Brian Dawkins, Mike Vrabel and Osi Umenyiora sure as hell aren't Top 10.
You'd have a hard time arguing that any of them are Top 5 in their respective positions, much less overall.

What is find great is that you can make an argument that there are 4 of the top 10 players in the league on the Minnesota Vikings. All that and people still claim the Vikings have no shot at anything.

In case you were wondering the 4 players are:

Kevin Williams
Pat Williams
AD
Jared Allen
