Vilma's TRUE worth

Ok, here's the deal on the Vilma trade. Stay with me because this gets a little twisty.

The Jets received a fourth-round pick in the upcoming 2008 draft. That's theirs and they will use it or trade it or whatever they want to do with it in two months. If Darren McFadden is around in the fourth round, he'll be a Jet.

Now, if Vilma reaches certain playing time levels AND he winds up signing an extension with the Saints (remember, Vilma didn't renegotiate so he's a free agent after the 08 season), then the Jets will get either a second or a third rounder in 2009 but they would have to sort of pay back the original value of the deal by giving the Saints a fourth-round pick.

Follow?

So the best case for the Jets is that they wind up with a fourth this year, a second next year, but have to give up a fourth in 2009.

It's been a long day.

That should clear things up though if its a 3rd.

I really really like the fit though as a NO fan i think it might be slightly overpaid and I must say it will be the most boring draft day ever for the saints next year.

That should clear things up though if its a 3rd.
That trade had all types of stipulations to it and no one is/was really sure of all of the conditions of it. The last I heard was it was a 4th rounder in 2009 with the potential to become a 3rd.

Almost as bad as the Browns this year, haha. I'm glad the Eagles don't have to face him twice a year anymore, but to be honest, we really kept him in check for the most part. Still it is nice to have a weapon like that out of the division.
Edit: Frist sentece in response to three posts above

This is nice. You know somewhere out there, Roy Williams is thanking God. Anyway, I was shocked to see this happen so late. It will be good for him to get out of there, though.

You guys better do something special this season, because if you don't it will be a pretty damn waste, if you dont. Not to mention, on a different note it will help us with the pick, and the jets as well.

Haha. I know. Problem is I have this on other sites as well. Keeps me from writing down different sns so keeping 1 is alot easier. Ah well, makes no difference to me. It's not like Shockey was my favorite player. I just came up with this name because my first few were taking on giants.com, so this weird name was free. So this one stuck.

The Offense should be very explosive with Drew Brees, Deuce McAllister, Reggie Bush, Pierre Thomas, Robert Meachem, David Patten, Marques Colston and Jeremy Shockey. And that's not counting guys like Mike Karney, Jammal Brown, Jahri Evans, etc.

Now if the Defense steps up, starting with the D-Line and Linebackers. Will Smith, Charles Grant, Brian Young, Sedrick Ellis, Bobby McCray, Scott Fujita, Jonathan Vilma, etc. We should be able to make a deep playoff run. The only big question marks are FS and RCB, as LCB and SS are very much locked up.

The potential is there. We'll see what happens.

I agree you guys look good on paper, but my point is the pressure is on. You guys seem to be going big with trades for Vilma and now shockey. So an off year shouldn't be tolerated.

I still now sold on Bush. I need to see more from him. The guy came in the league with a sick, sick, amount of hype, and I want to see some production close to match it.

But I agree your offense is stacked on paper. If you guys stay healthy your divison should be easy. TB really should be the only tough team.

Good trade for both teams I would say.

I've never been a Shockey guy from the start so I can't say I'm sad to see him go. He played with a lot of heart but he was also a bad teammate and I feel like he made things difficult for Eli.

Still. I think he will do good things because he loved Sean Payton when he was our offensive coordinator here and has always had high praise for him.

Oh, I see.

Yeah, if we miss the playoffs, losing those picks will really hurt. And I agree about Bush. Right now he is a good player, but he needs to turn the corner this season or he'll be considered a bust.
