I didn't see this, but I guess I will make this the hold out thread. If anyone is holding out just put the article in here.

Wow...

News out of Raiderland is that the Raiders have told Lamont Jordan to stay away. Obviously Lamont is filing a grievance. Since Nnamdi hasn't signed the tender, he's not there yet either. And I don't think Derrick Burgess is going to be in camp.

Best quote is this:

Quote:
“I can’t go out and play this year making $445,000. Come on, man,” Hester said.

Haha I know seriously. Granted he excels at his position, but at the end of the day he is still a specialist. An elite one, but he is replaceable. If he was good at something else be it CB or WR, then I would say, ok he has 2 good to elite skills so pay him. But the guy doesn't be holding out this early in his career.

You can't buy gas for that much.. I can.. but I am guessing he needs a little extra cheese on that hamburger, and so that's why he 445,000 ain't gonna cut it.. I will do it for half that though as well! Probably not good, but I will save the Bears money!

Westbrook is hinting at a hold out. He is asking for 30 million over the next 3 years and to do so he hired Nate Clements agent. If you don't remember, Nate Clements got a monster contract las off-season that many don't believe he is worthy of.

Lito just hired Drew Rosenhous as his agent and is also asking for a new contract.

Hester is the greatest return man ever, a hefty argument for him deserving a raise, although I don't know what number that would be specifically. Especially as we don't know how good a receiver he can really be, and probably won't know after '08 when it's his first full season and the Bears are undergoing necessary overhaul on the offensive line and quarterback competition.

At the end of the day, Hester is signed to a contract. The Bears can decide to have him play out the contract and then determine to sign him afterwards or not.

No, he can't. He is absolutely entitled to earn as much as he is worth, and his value to that team is far more than $445,000. That's close to the veteran minimum. Him playing for that salary is absurd.

Once again, I have no idea where EF 45 is getting his info, all I have heard is that Westy will be there. EF 45, you want to tell us where you heard this info so we can at least verify it???

For nearly 28,000 dollars a game, heck, I'll put my hand up to get the **** knocked out of me.

Like I said in the other thread though, a player who contributes 25% of your touchdowns deserves more money than 445k a year.

I've heard ALOT of grumblings coming from Philly camp.

Westbrook wants "tomlinson money" and I think Lito is feeling slighted? One of him or Sheldon is peeved

They do much, much more than play a game for 5 months of the year. Being a professional football player is a 12 month per year job. With non-guaranteed contracts, they need to constantly be in shape, they have to avoid activities that could get them hurt and cut, and then they have to endure the most physically abusive sport on the planet. With the job I have now, I can do anything I want to while I'm not on the job. I wanna stop going to the gym? No big. I wanna put on twenty pounds? They don't care. I wanna go skateboarding and sprain my ankle? Big whoop.

Devin Hester is paid just 445k for 12 months, and if he gets hurt bad enough, that's all he'll ever see. He, like any other player, should cash in while he can, because football is an unforgiving MFer.

Nobody knows how much the Bears have already offered Hester, but if he feels like he needs to hold out to drive his point home then so be it.

He certainly deserves more than he's making, but he also has two years left on his contract so he doesn't have a whole lot of leverage. I don't think he's making a smart decision. He needs to be in camp and learn how to play receiver, then he'll make more money than Bernard Berrian could have even imagined.

I'm really hoping Peters doesn't hold out.

He has 3 years remaining on his contract, but the problem is that he signed it as a right tackle. Now, he wants to be paid like one of the best left tackles in the game, because he is one. But we have other players to resign, such as Lee Evans and Angelo Crowell. I'm hoping he doesnt miss any training camps or games this year, but I have no idea how long he could potentially hold out for.

I agree. Let him learn another position in another phase of the game, other than special teams. First he was a CB, now WR, but a sick, sick special teams player. But he needs to show the team he can add value to the team other than special teams. Learning the WR part of a pro playbook is a chore in itself. Not only does he have to learn the outside WR routes, but he has to learn the inside ones as well.

In my opinion, holding out solves nothing especially if you are learning the position and have to compete against Wr who have played it. Just because you have sick speed doesn't entitle you to the position.

We had Tim Carter who was fast, not hester fast, but very fast, but he couldn't catch a cold, and now he is off the team.

Maybe I'm missing a financial factor that goes into the life of Devin Hester, but isn't the $15,000 (I think thats right) fine for every day missed in training camp going to really affect him? I can see how some players just shrug it off but him only making $445,000 this year can't help.

Branden Albert is expected to be in camp on time, especially considering #14 pick OT Chris Williams and #17 pick OT Gosder Cherilus have both signed already. Glenn Dorsey could be a potential holdout although that doesn't worry me as much as getting Albert in camp on time. We need our left tackle to be practicing from day 1 of training camp.

Good point. Larry Johnson was able to take the $15,000 a day fine like it was nothing because he was guaranteed to get a huge contract at some point and he was already making the salary of a 1st round pick. But Hester isn't making much to begin with and I don't see him getting what he is asking for.

Devin Hester has endorsement deals with EA Sports, Nike, and a few other companies. I'm just guessing here, but I bet his NFL salary is about 1/10th of his annual income if that.
