Default What Will You Be Watching?(Preseason -- Week 1 vs. Patriots)

I figure to stimulate some more posts on the Ravens board, we could talk about what we'll be looking for on our team, you guys can feel free to add to this list what you'll be watching for, but here are some things I'll be looking at:

-- QB Play: This isn't a shocker to anyone in Baltimore, but it'll be interesting to see how the 3 QBs play in this game. Obviously, training camp has been a struggle for all 3 so far, so it will be interesting to see if any strides can be made by either QB, but Flacco playing with and against the 3rd teamers will probably make him look decent enough.

-- Is B-more the city of Rice?: Ray Rice has been getting a lot of hype from the local press, so him starting in this game will be intriguing to watch. Hopefully, he can show some signs of being able to play with the big dogs, and who else but against the Pats to see if he can hold his own.

-- Slaughterhouse: Chad Slaughter has not only the coolest name in the NFL, but also has shown some explosiveness playing on the line, but he's still trying to get into shape after being a FA for months now. It will be interesting to see if he can adjust well enough in this game. Kracilik has his work cut out for him as well.

-- Secondary/Linebacker Depth: Gooden, Nakamura, and Zibikowski are all going to watched very carefully by me, as I enjoyed all 3 as college players, so I'll be very interested to see if they can make some big plays. Gooden might get at least a sack if he plays well enough. I'm also interested in our new corners, Washington and Walker, to see if either one can show anything, even though both of them are nickel corners at best at this rate.

I'm so nervous and so excited at the same time. But in either case, FOOTBALL IS FINALLY BACK!!!!! :D

So new rule, NBA: Unless you have a root canal at halftime, SHUT UP AND PLAY!

Players I was happy with...

RB Ray Rice: 6 rushes for 12 yards doesn't exaclty look great on the stat sheet, but he led the team in receptions and I was impressed with his ability to create and his versatility.

CB Fabian Washington: Wow. If we can get play like we saw tonight from Fabs in the regular season, watch out. Yes it was one preseason game but he was near perfect.

WR/RS Yamon Figurs: Returns of 48 and 52 yards pretty much speaks for itself. I'm also intrigued with him on the offensive end, it's clear the coaching staff wants to get him involved.

WR Darnerian McCants: I'll give McCants a little shout out here. Made a nice grab on a great throw over the middle by Troy Smith, and almost made another good catch on another great throw against two defenders. A longshot at this point to make the team, but certainly an intriguing option when you consider his past success with the Redskins.

DT Justin Bannan: Was blowing up plays. Really nice to see considering the injury problems we have/have had across the defensive line.

QB Troy Smith: Statline wasn't great, but overall I liked what I saw from Troy. Was poised, confident (maybe a bit cocky), threaded the needle a few times. For me he was clearly the best signal caller, albeit with underwhelming peformances from Boller and Flacco.

Other Notes:

-Kyle Boller is Kyle Boller. It's been 5 (going on 6) years, he's the same player. He is what he is. For those who are expecting Drew Brees type success from him, I just can't see it or even hope for something like that. We know what we have in him and I can't dispute that any longer.

-The offensive line, I thought, was ok overall. Not great, but considering the circumstances, I was pleased.

-The work that went into improving the special teams looks to have paid off. Ayanbedejo, Zbikowski, there were alot of guys that impressed me in one way or another tonight.
