Cheers.
I just picked up a growler of Marin Brew Co's IPA for a little get together tonight. A buddy is leaving for the Peace Corps for two years, so I figured I'd buy something to mark the occasion.

Kudos to your buddy in the Peace Corps,, out of fashion but never out of good karma & good vibes. I had a close friend who went there & they sent him to Nepal, thought he was forever out of touch, but at one Christmas reunion in our hometown he brought me 2 Tibetan temple prints on rice paper, the dragon one is absolutely cool. He said in the Himalayas they say never go that way (points west) b/c "that's Afghanistan & you want to stay the hell out there," good advice. It's a screwed up narco-dictatorship
This Mexican Modelo tastes like every dirt road in Coahuila Y Chihuahua. And bars sell these for $3.50 a pop in CA, get out.....

Modelo presents almost no advantage over cheaper drinkable beers, like Tecate or PBR (which sells for insanely cheap even in SF).

I dunno. I actually enjoy Modelo Especial sometimes. One mexican bar/restaurant I go to sells it for two bucks. Prefer that over PBR for the same price.

An enjoyable DIPA that you can get relatively cheap. A little light on the ABV but I like the flavor and at 3.50 a bomber it is well worth a try.

First beer I've had that comes even remotely close to Hoegaarden's taste. Big fan of Avery's. Alongside one of the few New Belgium beers I like.

I can't drink more than one glass of Young's. Just too much - I can't finish an entire bottle. The Flying Saucer makes ice cream floats with it...I'll have to try one.

You liked the New Belgium's Trippel? It's been awhile since I had it, but I remember I was pretty mad I bought it. Then again, I seem to think that about most of New Belgium's brews.

If you had it in a bottle, it probably tasted like crap like all of their beers. I had it on tap, so the flavor was a lot cleaner than it would have been from the bottle. It's an economically friendly trippel with standard trippel flavor.
All of their beers have a weird taste out of the bottle. I don't know why they don't try to fix it.

new belgium travels poorly, not that it's an incredible beer here (though i like some of their stuff), but it's substantially worse everywhere i've had it outside the state. fat tire is basically undrinkable on tap or not once you get a few hundred miles from the brewery.

The only ones that taste decent on tap (all taste horrible from bottle in KC) consistently are 2 below and 1554. Haven't had the Trippel enough to know if that was a one-time thing or not. I've had a few good Fat Tires on tap at certain places, but I just don't like that beer anymore.

I started brewing last week and just moved it to secondary today. Should be drinking it by Thanksgiving. It's a brown.
I couldn't find some parts to my siphoning pump, so I had to do it the not-so-fun way. Got about a gulp of the beer in my mouth. Not bad for a beer that's still in the fermenting process :O.
It cost me about $200 to get started (including a propane cooker I got - I get together with a few friends and we brew outside and hang out). But the typical cost per batch is ~$30, and I get 2 cases (50 pints - $30/50 = $0.60 per beer or $3.60 per 6-pack) of decent-to-good beer out of it. Probably going to try to do a porter or stout next.

World of Beer finally opened near school, tried one of these, really liked it. Also had a 8 Ball Stout (solid as well) and Two Hearted Ale (good but not really my thing). So glad WOB finally opened.

They had it in NYC at my local distributor, so I would think it would be in DC at any beverage store with a good beer selection.
You can search here: http://abita.com/find_abita/index.php

Two Hearted is my favorite beer that I can get in a six pack most places. If you don't really like hoppy beers, I can see why you wouldn't like it that much.
We're getting into stouts & porters season...I'm stoked!

I still drink Keystone Ice. That, Mickeys and PBR is usually all I drink here.
