Default Roster Down to 52

Quote:
The Ravens have waived the following players:

Adam Bergen (TE, 6-4, 267, 3rd-year, Lehigh)
Casey Bramlet (QB, 6-4, 220, 2nd-year, Wyoming)
Darrell Campbell (DL, 6-4, 295, 1st-year, Notre Dame)
Patrick Carter (WR, 6-3, 195, Rookie, Louisville)
Adrien Clarke (G, 6-5, 330, 4th-year, Ohio State)
Amon Gordon (DT, 6-2, 305, 4th-year, Stanford)
Justin Harper (WR, 6-3, 215, Rookie, Virginia Tech)
Alex Haynes (RB, 5-10, 225, 2nd-year, Central Florida)
Keith Heinrich (TE, 6-6, 255, 5th-year, Sam Houston State)
Adam Kraus (G, 6-6, 295, Rookie, Michigan)
Robert McCune (LB, 6-0, 245, 2nd-year, Louisville)
Allen Patrick (RB, 6-1, 200, Rookie, Oklahoma)
Ronnie Prude (CB, 5-11, 180, 3rd-year, LSU)
Joe Reitz (T, 6-7, 270, Rookie, Western Michigan)
Chad Slaughter (6-8, 340, 5th-year Alcorn State)
Gary Stills (LB, 6-2, 250, 10th-year, West Virginia)
Ernie Wheelwright (WR, 6-5, 220, Rookie, Minnesota)
Lorenzo Williams (DL, 6-0, 310, Rookie, Missouri)
Matt Willis (WR, 5-11, 190, 2nd-year, UCLA)

The Ravens have also placed the following players on Injured Reserve:

David Pittman (CB, 5-11, 185, 3rd-year, Northwestern State)
Cory Ross (RB, 5-6, 205, 3rd-year, Nebraska)
Very surprising pick with Anwar Phillips, though I did think he performed well and is a fairly talented guy. Interesting.

With the waiving of Patrick and Ross going on IR, Le'Ron McClain is our third running back by default. He ran well in preseason, but I personally wanted a true running back to get the third spot. If Willis McGahee can't go week 1 or at any other point during the season, we'll be looking at Ray Rice and McClain as our two backs. Either that, or Ozzie and co. will be looking for a running back on the waiver wire. I hope that is the case because there's some talented backs that have/will be cut.

Cutting Bramlet shows Boller most likely won't have to go on IR and they feel good about Troy Smith. Or like the running back situation, they'll look for someone on the waiver wire.

I'm pretty surprised that we didn't keep a 6th receiver, especially with Marcus Smith's injury issues. But like the Bramlet cut it shows that his injury is not as serious as we may have thought. Hopefully Harper or Wheelwright can stick around on the PS.

The most interesting thing in all of this may be who the Ravens pick as the 53rd man.

Note: Derrick Martin and Fabian Washington are currently serving suspensions so they do not count against the 53. After week 1 though, assuming both of those guys are brought back, one other player will have to be cut. If the Ravens go out and pick up one more player to get the roster up to 53 before the game against Cincy, then two players will have to be cut after week 1.

I think the cutting of Bramlet has more to do with them getting closer to making Flacco the starter, then it does them being comfortable with Smith. Smith gave them no reason to be comfortable with him as the starter during the preseason.

I didn't really mean comfortable about Smith as the starter, I wholeheartedly believe Flacco will be out there week 1 as the guy. I think they feel good about Troy being the backup and at least able to go out there if something were to happen.

In other news, the Ravens have signed RB Marcus Mason to the PS. Pretty good pickup, he was impressive during the preseason for Washington.

I was surprised that Adam Bergen didn't make it. I thought he was doing well. I was surprised that the DT from Rutgers (older player I don't remember his name) made it, same with Jameel McClain. Anwar Philips was really surprising, but I guess with 2 CBs out for week one, we needed him.

Really surprised, we picked Anwar Phillips over Ronnie Prude. David Pittman is still the biggest bust in the world. Ronnie Prude > David Pittman, Derrick Martin, Corey Ivy, Frank Walker.

We FINALLY released David Pittman.
Quote:
Ravens released CB David Pittman with an injury settlement.
The transition from D-IAA Northwestern State to the pros was clearly too much for Pittman to handle. It'd be no surprise if he failed to resurface.

Okay, well, we've signed Joey Harrington.
Quote:
Ravens signed QB Joey Harrington, formerly of the Falcons.
Harrington was better than Chris Simms in Monday's workout, so he got the nod. Simms should start exploring options in Dallas and Chicago. Harrington has little time to get ready for the opener and probably isn't a candidate to start against Cincinnati, but was needed with Troy Smith and Kyle Boller out indefinitely. Look for Boller (shoulder) now to go on injured reserve.
QB is really looking bad right now. Hopefully, Troy can get better soon.

Its official, Joe Flacco will be starting Week 1.

So who are the good freshman QBs that we can look forward to drafting in rd 1, 4 years from now?

Keon Lattimore or Lance Ball > Marcus Mason

yea w/ us signing Harrington I think Boller may go on IR. It would make no sense to bring this guy in and try to teach him the system 4 2 weeks to be a back up then cut him when Boller and Smith are fine.

I read in the paper that Smith lost 20 pounds due to this illness. Maybe he will be out long term, maybe not IR but long term.

Now, reports are saying that we signed Todd Bouman and not Joey Harrington.
Quote:
John Clayton of ESPN reports that the Ravens have signed QB Todd Bouman to a one-year contract worth $830,000.
Bouman, Joey Harrington and Chris Simms worked out Monday in Baltimore and the Ravens chose the 36-year-old career backup who hasn't played in a game since 2005, which probably isn't a great sign for the other two guys. With both Kyle Boller (torn labrum) and Troy Smith (infected tonsils) out, Bouman will back up rookie starter Joe Flacco in Week 1.
Per RotoWorld via ESPN.

Not being a Maryland homer no way man. Mason will likely be taken off the practice squad as some team will pick him up at some point. He has led the preseason in rushing 2 straight years. He is a bowling ball who gets 5 yards a pop every single play. If it weren't for dumb contracts if we were looking at the guys as players he would have made it on the Redskins over Ladell Betts and Rock Cartwright. But w/e. He's like a Michael Turner clone.

Mason has been sick for the Skins and I'm really happy with the pickup.

And now the news is that NO third quarterback has been signed, contrary to reports. The first report was we had signed Chris Simms, the second was Joey, and the most recent Todd Bouman. The word now is that none of them have officially signed, but it is between Harrington and Bouman.
