I don't really see why it would be. Most of the complaints have nothing to do with the things that would make a game better on PC. Empty world and bad storytelling are pretty universal.
Still, well could end up being a good game.

I just heard the story wasn't the greatest and the ps3 had some visual issues but that was about it. IGN said despite all those things its ridiculously addicting and fun. I may end up getting it with some of my roomies.

Sort of disappointing that there's no character creation, especially given that the selectable ones are supposedly pretty shallow.

Yeah, I just watched a youtube video with all the character back stories and they're all painfully cliche.

Yeah I coudn't agree more. If they weren't trying to actually establish a story or real important arc with any of those characters why not let people create theyre own? But it wouldnt prevent me from picking it up, fallout with zombies and friends sounds like a great time.

Tried the Space Marine demo today.
Despite the generic(in today's post Halo/Mass Effect world anyway. you've got to remember that the games are based on the setting from a table top game that's 20+ years old though) title, it was actually quite fun. I'm not really sure what they're going for with it, but still fun. It feels like a cover shooter without a cover system, with an emphasis on melee. Really liked the way they did the health system. Found a way to be challenging without wasting time picking up arbitrarily placed health packets and reward you for playing well. Still, with enemies and squadmates who take cover and the way the game controls, it just feels like it's missing that element. Could have been a really good spin on a Gears of War/Uncharted type thing, but as it stands right now it's stuck somewhere between that and a clunky action game. Setting and background is pretty rich though.

Borderlands made that mistake as well. Gave you nothing substantial on the bland characters besides abilities and seperate skill trees and didn't allow you to fill in the rest or at least feel ownership of them. They seem to be pretty similar games by the sounds of things, with a slightly different spin with Dead Island in terms of combat.

Yeah, it's about zombie killing, leveling up, and creating weapons and what not...it's def. not about the story.
Not my type of game.
Only way Borderlands 2 would get me, is if there was an actual story involved or true story telling...but I really doubt it.

I can do a game with poor story. You can't have a truly great game without a good one, but there have been some games that have been worth playing over the years with poor stories.
Watching the the videos of it, it's a little bit more compelling than the written stuff makes it sound. Defiantly the definition of a borderline title for me. Sounds like there's tons of annoying things and issues(placeholder animations, lack of uses for some of the abilities) and just an overall lack of polish. There's a big patch coming on day one that supposedly doesn't fix everything yet either. That kind of chases me off the $60 dollar price tag a new game sets you back.
In other news of zombie games(geez, they really don't make enough of those huh?); Resident Evil 4 HD drops on September 20th. That was really one of my favorite games of the last console generations and I'm really excited to pick it up again. I short sightedly traded it in a few years back.

The ***** about Dead Island is that the original trailer made it seem like there would be a pretty interesting story... But then later it turns out that the playable characters are a bunch of punks rather than the family that is portrayed in the trailer.

I never thought we'd be in control of that family or anything. But I thought that if they created a trailer like that, the story would probably be pretty damn strong. It was false advertising and it pissed a lot of people off, once they saw how "arcade like" the game actually was. That trailer had absolutely nothing to do with the game.
I was thinking about this before...I hate games with generic characters like this, I never know who to pick at the start. They all seem so lame.

All the characters in this one suck. I think that's on purpose, though. At least, I hope it is.

I'm probably going to end up picking it up. Although I feel like it will be a post-christmas sale purchase.

The PC release was all ****** up, so I really haven't played it. I played through the prologue with the black rapper whose dad went to cliche prison when he was 2. It seemed like it was going to be a really fun game.

2010 was a light wallet year. 2011 is raping my wallet pretty hardcore.
In the next two months I've got SoTC/Ico Collection, Resident Evil 4 HD, Rage, Dark Souls, and Battlefield 3.
Space Marine, Arkham City, and Silent Hill might be buys in a slower climate, but there's just too much coming out right now.
The Holiday season looks pretty light right now(Assassin's Creed and Skyrim will be buys though) though with Mass Effect 3 and The Witcher 2 being pushed off to early next year, but early 2012 looks pretty stacked as well.
It was a fairly slow summer, so I'm kind of pumped for all this.
Basically;

Last year was a big spending year and so is this year.
This year I've picked up...
Dead Space 2, Dragon Age 2, L.A. Noire, NCAA 12, and Deus Ex. I also bought a bunch of lower priced games.
And I still have to get...
Gears 3, RAGE, Skyrim, and Uncharted 3.
Pretty much a gigantic waste of money...but that's how I spend the money I make. :P

If I can stereotype for a momemt...you're probably beastly at Gears, huh? Every Aussie I've ever played with on Gears and Gears 2, has just been crazy good. lol.
I really hope a lot of us grab the game so we can have some matches.

I'm on the fence about Gears 3 right off the bat. I've really enjoyed the campaign in those games over the years, so I plan on picking it up at some point for sure...but I just have this odd thing where I can't play competently at all in multiplayer. I'm usually at least a 1.5(2.6 in Crysis 2 for awhile. That was awesome.) or better player in shooters, but in Gears I'm more in the .6 or .7 range...which makes it slightly less fun haha. I've made several of what I feel like were legitimate attempts to learn and improve but they never quite workout for whatever reason.
I'm probably a horrible person for not being able to enjoy it because I suck, but I'll own up to it at least. Guess it just doesn't suite me.

It took me forever to get good at Gears 2 online...so I think it says I'm like a 0.9. lol.
But I was much better than that. I bought the game at launch, but didnt really get into the multiplayer until at least a year later.
I fully expect to suck at 3 for a while. Never played the beta, I'm not going to know where anything is. It will probably be bad at first.

I really only have Gears3 and Skyrim on my list... Might even pass on Skyrim since I still have Oblivion, both Fallouts, ME2 (started playing as friends were finishing it and got sidetracked), and have been playing the **** out of Mount & Blade...
