The Atlanta Falcons today announced the release of LB Edgerton Hartwell.

What a free agent bust he was. That Achillies injury destroyed his time in Atlanta. I wonder if any team will take a chance on him?

Sure glad we signed Pierce that year instead of Hartwell. As we were rumored to be interested in both.

He was better in the 3-4. Maybe SF or SD someone like that gives him a look?

He was a 'thumper' MLB in a 4-3.

At the time we had 'won' one of the premier free agents of '05. Amazing how things change. Now he is better known as Ed Hurtwell.

Absolutely. Pierce was coming off one big year in Washington and thats about it. Coaches raved about him but he only had one good year and we gave him a decent sized contract. Hartwell was definately the more established player at that time.

If the Achilles injury hadn't happened, you never know what you might have said about Hartwell. I was very high on both him and Pierce. I thought Pierce had higher upside, but Hartwell was ready to be his own player. Injuries wrecked it.
Good thing the Falcons completely guaranteed the contract, so he'll be on your cap for the next 2 years...

I was angry when him and Bell didn't sign with the Bengals that year but in hindsight it wasn't such a bad thing I guess.

Maybe the 49ers because his old DC was Mike Nolan in B-More.

I always thought KC should have signed him instead of Bell. Might have worked out better for all parties involved, too.

I'd like to see the Jets pursue him as a run stopper in the 3-4. He was better then Ray Lewis in the system, only he didn't get the publicity that Lewis got, because he's not flashy.

Does this mean the Falcons are looking for a LB in the draft? If they take Timmons, i'll be so pissed.

- WLB – Demorrio Williams
- MLB – Keith Brooking
- SLB – Michael Boley (Stud)
With 3rd round pick Jordan Beck as depth at all three positions. The team is fine at LB. With much more pressing needs.

Hm...if I remember correctly, Demorrio Williams was horribly inconsistent, and I just can't imagine him being an incumbent starter. However, inconsistency seemed to be the theme with the entire Falcons team under Mora. Maybe the new staff will get him to live up to his potential.

I could see the Niners, Jets, Chiefs and Chargers all going after him.

SD, NE, SF would probably be his most likely places. I wouldn't mind him in Carolina backing up Dan Morgan or starting on the weakside. We've had success with Atlanta linebackers who got shown the door ;)

what? Demorrio Williams was extremely beastly as a starter and the only reason he was benched was because Mora is an idiot and thought that the team was \better on D with Hartwell i nthe middle and Brooking at WLB instead of Brooking at MLB and Williams at WLb.
