Report: Colorado Buffaloes offer football coaching job to Jon Embree; school denies it - ESPN

Quote:
McCartney also has been considered a candidate for the job. He told the Post that one plan was for him to take the job, bring in Embree and Minnesota Vikings assistant head coach/offense Eric Bieniemy as assistants, and groom one of the two to become the head coach after a period of a few years.

According to McCartney, the school elected to eliminate him from contention, and the Buffaloes' coach from 1982 to 1994 said he pushed for Embree and Bieniemy, two of his former players, to succeed to Dan Hawkins, who was fired last month.
Why does a coach from 16 years ago who left for (in the nicest way possible) very strange reasons have input into the coach at CU? Sure, he was really the only one to have high level success there, but being out of the sport for as long as he has should be disconcerting for CU. I don't know much about this hire, but I would have thought with the move to the Pac 10 that CU would have hired an established coach, not an NFL Position coach.

Colorado, like many schools, is broke. It's the reason Dan Hawkins got another year as it is. Having to pay to leave the Big 12 didn't help either.

Texas offensive coordinator Greg Davis resigns in shake-up - ESPN

Looks like UT will be in the hunt for a new OC.

Looks like Dave Wannstedt will resign at Pitt. Rumors abuzz if Michigan lets go of Rich Rod, Pitt may make a play, or if Marvin Lewis leaves Cinci, he is a Pitt guy (former coach)

I could see Tom Bradley being a candidate for Pitt as well.

Isn't he the man when it comes to replacing JoePa though? I'd rather be the unofficial HCIW at Penn State then the HBC at Pitt.

Everyone speculates that, but IMO, I think PSU goes outside the program to replace JoePa. Bradley is a hell of a cordinator, but I do not believe that he'll win the PSU coaching race. If he does land Pitt's job, Western PA will be on lock down for Pitt.

Also, I think Marvin Lewis to Pitt would be a great hire for them. Not that he's some brilliant coach, but he'll get kids based off him being in the NFL. Plus, he's the hometown guy like Wanny.

Because Wanny worked out so well being an NFL coach and hometown guy (alumni?)....

Maybe they should rehire the guy who bolted for Stanford, what's he up to these days?

Pitt needs a bigger name more than Miami does. Miami makes coaches.

Oh, I read the question wrong. I thought he was asking which school was a bigger name. I agree that Miami doesn't need to hire a name coach.

Definitely expected him to end up with a better job than this, but good for him. Any idea if he is going to coach in the NC game?

Uh, Vandy got the hottest name assistant coach in the country with their history and everything.

I see Florida as somewhat settling for Muschamp considering they should be in a position to not have to take a chance on a coordinator.

Id personally take Muschamp, but thats not anything against Malzahn.
I'd take Muschamp too, but I still agree with Voodoo.

You have Florida which, right now, is a Top 5 coaching situation to go into. There's a lot of talent already on the team, you have the haven of talent to recruit from that Florida puts out annually, and the SEC East is down. 99% of the coaches in the NCAA should've wanted that job.

Then you have Vandy... Yeah...

So while Muschamp is superior to Malzahn, in my view, I don't think the difference is too great between them. On the other hand, Florida is miles above Vandy. So the fact that Vandy was able to hire a guy who's a similar caliber to the hire Florida made despite the difference between the two schools makes Vandy's hire more impressive.
