That's my main thing with him. Last year, he stressed "high octane football" but he didn't know how to coach it seemingly as Pitt certainly didn't set the world on fire offensively. The points and yards disappeared after Malzahn left at Tusla, and they didn't make the trip with Graham to Pitt either.

He was a candidate last year and we were scared because he would have taken Vanderlinden, LJ, and McQueary with him and they are our top three assistants. I don't know who he'd hire as an offensive staff at this point but I still think he'd be a great hire for Pitt. Bradley is one of the best defensive minds in college football though.
|
I agree, he was the HC at Penn St. for some time just not in name. However, Pitt will get a lot of flack if they hire him. He must have know about the Sandusky mess so I won't touch him with a ten foot poll, IMO, his career should be done because whoever hires him is going to have to explain over and over why they took him and his assistants from a mess that they were part of.
It will only get Pitt involved in his credibility and the credibility of his staff and put a smear on Pitt's good name.

Graham ahhahh, he knew he was going to suck in the ACC, bolted for the no defense Pac-12.
Many how many coaches did Pitt have in the last year? The Stash, interm, domestic violence, Graham.

I'd like to see Pitt give Bud Foster a chance. I mean, he's only been the DC at Virginia Tech since 1995 (and is still just 52). If not him, Paul Chryst would be a good hire as well.

They were playing clips of his press conferences at Pitt and ASU and they were damn near identical.
Radio was playing name that presser, I never heard anyone get one right.

I think the main thing Pitt is going to be looking for is a guy with ties to the program and the area. Things like that suddenly become more important after a debacle like this. Paul Chryst and Foster would be good options and neither of them seem to have much of a Petrino factor to them, but you never really know. Teryl Austin seems to be a name being thrown around there. Seems to have a good recruiting track record and deep ties to the program, but there's a lack of any tangible success there and an acute lack of experience.

There were rumors that Austin was really close to landing the job last year. I could see him actually winning this year. He'd be a good hire.

There's chatter that Mario Cristobal is the front runner. He'd be a Todd Graham type of hire for the Panthers IMO, though his name has been rumored for higher jobs, correct? I wonder if he would bring Randy Shannon to be the DC?

First question of the Pitt AD's interview of prospective coaches: "Do you willfully ignore or otherwise condone coach on child rape in your locker room?"

First question needs to be who is going to be Pitt's AD. After his last two hires he shouldn't be employed.

It is such ******** that a coach like Graham can bounce from job to job yet players if they want to transfer have to sit out a year. It never gets said enough, **** NCAA.

I'll believe it when I see it, why would a top HC go to Penn St??? Makes no sense. They'll need a top 5 salary to interest anybody in the job. Recruiting could be a nightmare.

dammit, i wanna keep luke. great recruiter and the players love him. in luke's best interest though he should definitely take that job. there will always be a place for him at ohio state if it doesn't work out but he should jump on such a good oppurtunity.

I think Luke Fickell is the most overrated "coach" in all of college football. I say think because there are a lot of coaches, but I can't think of another less-qualified person who has been given so much. At least Lane Kiffen was a good coordinator.

Fickell is a great recruiter and a good LB/DL coach. Was a great special teams coach before he got promoted. I think it is too soon for him to be a head coach (he was only interim this year just to give him a shot), but people in the coaching community love the guy as an assistant. He has never been a full blown defensive coordinator. He was co-defensive coordinator to Jim Heacock since 2005 or 2006 but Heacock was the brains behind the defense. Same story this year with Everett Withers being co-DC if Luke sticks around.

In Lane's defense he has really come on as a motivator and an overall coach.
