Is the next CB for us already on our Roster?

So, I think we were going to draft a corner regardless if we signed Gamble. Lucas isn't getting younger, and we will need a solid nickle corner. However, perhaps the best option already is on the team?

I think that drafting a player is riskier than going with a guy who knows your playbook, knows the team, and the coaches know him and what he can do.

I liked him a lot when we drafted him, kind of forgot about him. I had wondered if he just wasn't as good as I thought, but it makes me happy that he may work out.

Just remember, the team knows more about him than they could about any prospect. He already is two years into the playbook, and has experience covering one of the best. I don't remember his combine numbers, I don't think they were overly great..

Richard Marshall is a great corner. Didn't they move Godfrey to safety?

Marshall has been okay, his stock took a hit I think this year. But, a better pass rush and him continuing to learn will help. I have faith in him, but I wouldn't have had faith in him and Lucas as starters.

Wilson would probably be the nickle player, or maybe come in and Marshall shift to the inside where he is pretty good.

Which is another thing, playing the slot is so difficult, so many team call plays on third down specifically for the slot receiver. I really believe it can be hard to defend than the #2 receiver that Lucas covers.

Godfrey is at safety, he has been good and bad. I think that he will be stellar by next year though. He has the drive to be a great player for us.

I liked the Wilson pick when we made it. He was a cocky SOB, not unlike Marshall. Of course, he was cut at some point his rookie year (we tried converting him to safety at first though...) so I wouldn't bet on him being all that special

I actually wouldnt be surprised if Godfrey got back moved back to CB. The guy obviously has talent but he's blown a fair amount of coverages this season. Now, he's a rookie so he has an excuse but if it doesn't improve next season I could see us moving him back

I've been disappointed by Marshall's lack of development after, what I felt, was a solid rookie campaign. It doesn't help that Gamble has finally decided to return to the football field after a couple of quiet years.

I do have to admit that it is clear that Lucas has lost a step and isn't the shutdown cornerback that he was his first year here. I'd like to see Marshall get the opportunity to step up in Lucas' spot before the team spends a high draft-pick on one.

It will be a second pick at most. Even then, I can see it being better used for a DT. If we can get a better pass rushing DT to help rotate Lewis we will be a lot better off. Also, Johnson in my opinion will have taken over by next year and will provide good pressure outside. He seems to be able to rush inside as well.

Marshall I believe will rise back up, I think it is kind of normal for corners to dip a little bit in the early years.

I think that Richard Marshall is going to be the guy that steps in for Lucas when he finally departs. I also think that Wilson will be a solid nickel corner.

I don't think Lucas will be a cap casualty, as the cap hit for cutting him would be very high, so I think he will be re-structured (and maybe still cut during TC) and would have a much lower cap number this year.
