Also, imagine Flacco throwing to Boldin, Mason, Olsen, Rice, Heap, Stallworth, and Clayton. That would be FLACCOWNED.

We both love the move and feel comfortable playing Oher on the left side and kicking Yanda out to RT. Thomas is a fantastic fit for our scheme and he could project to either S or CB on the Ravens.

We originally targeted Jared Odrick at 25, our original pick, but when an offer to move down to #30 came and accumulate some mid round picks lost in the Boldin/Olsen trades, we had to do it. We were hoping Odrick would slide past Dallas and New York, but unfortunately he didnt. So at 30, we ended up taking Everson Griffen, a real good transitional player for our move from 3-4 to 4-3. Griffen is highly athletic and could play opposite Suggs in either scheme. In fact, in alot of ways he compares favorably to Suggs. So to summarize the first round action:

LOSSES:

OT Jared Gaither

ADDITIONS:

TE Greg Olsen
DB Earl Thomas (#17)
DE/OLB Everson Griffen (#30)

We dont pick again till the 4th round, but we have alot of late rounders we might try and package to move up. Obviously its an unrealistic scenario, but I personally would be thrilled if it turned out this way.
I'm not a huge fan of trading away Gaither. Franchise LT's are hard to come across in this game and when you have someone with the tools and build Gaither has, you gatta let them grow and reach there potential.

True, Oher is a stud whether he's on the left or right side, but I'm iffy with moving Yanda to RT. It messes with our depth on the o-line.

Having bookend tackles is a luxury that we shouldn't give up.

Yanda is NOT a quality starting tackle in the league. He was average at best when he played there early in his career and with us probably looking to pass more I think he'd fare worse. Bad move, enough to make the overall mock bad so far (not a big fan of Griffen either, don't think we should waste a pick on another DE when we don't know if he's an automatic upgrade over Kruger).

Don't like the trade, you don't move a proven young LT for a safety, especially when Safety is not that big of a need. The difference between Gaither and Yanda is much greater than Landry/Zibi and Thomas.

Gotta agree with the sentiment that this forum mock has made this team worse. You've made the offensive line have a serious hole on the right side and justify it with the drafting of a Safety of all positions which is in no way a priority of this team. There's Dawan, Zbi, and obviously someone you forgotten Nakamura. Not only have you created this debacle, but the addition of Griffen is quite puzzling. With that logic, you're saying that we invest 1st round money on him while at the same time completely disregard last year's 2nd rounder in Kruger. We all agree he didn't have a banner first year but your solution is to further bury him on the roster?

Definite terrible first day.

Well in the system that we run right now, Kruger and Griffen wouldnt play the same position. Its been reiterated several times throughout the organization that Kruger's home will eventually be the 5 tech, and Griffen would play OLB.

Thomas was drafted because of his ability to play CB as well as S, and to be an eventual successor to Reed who's short term future is in serious jepardy.

No, it's been reiterated several times that Kruger will be playing on the defensive line, not the 5-tech. specifically. With Mattison at the helm we will be using more 4-man lines anyways, so yes Kruger would be playing where Griffen would in the system we run now.

Kruger's home will hopefully be up for sale after we axe him soon.

Eh he was a project when we drafted him and he should be playing the position he's best suited for this season.

What do you have against Kruger? What information do you have that says he sucks??? You like D-will but don't like Kruger? D-will has had a couple years to earn playing time and still hasn't and Kruger gets an interception to win a game when he gets playing time. I really need to know what your reasons are.

He is a garbage player and we should have taken Michael Johnson there, and don't say anything bout hindsight cause I was singing the Michael Johnson to Baltimore songs prior to the draft last year.

Wow he had an interception.....1 play in an entire season!!! And don't try to argue that he wasn't active enough.....THERE IS A REASON HE WAS ON THE SIDELINES IN STREET CLOTHES ALL YEAR!!!!!!!!

Explain to me why you think he has any potential whatsoever? He gets bullied by OTs, TEs chip him with ease, he has zero speed, and is now adding weight to his fragile frame. What potential is there?

I myself really wanted Sean Smith. He'd be perfect on the Ravens.
I remember I wanted Roy Miller, DT from Texas too.
But let me respond to this pointless hatred on a talented rookie player...
First off, Paul Kruger is a rookie. How many 2nd round defensive rookies make an impact in the NFL in their first season? Not many. Especially on a Ravens defense (which we all know is 1 of the best D's in the NFL)
Secondly, Paul Kruger is a project. Baltimore's original intent when drafting him was bulking him up 15 pounds and letting him play on the line.
As a rookie, Kruger played out of position, held his own in coverage, and made plays whenever he got the opportunity.
AND YES THAT PICK WAS CLUTCH/SICK/BANANAS/RETARTED
To call Kruger garbage is a depressingly foolish comment from a fellow Ravens fan.
Kruger is a young versatile weapon for the Ravens, who will progress more and more into a consistent playmaker.
Granted he can bulk up to 275 he'll provide a great motor for the D-Line.

How many second round defensive players made an impact as rookies?
It just depends on what team that player gets drafted on. If they get drafted to the Lions, Rams, etc, then they'll have a better chance at contributing early. Teams like the Steelers, Ravens, whoever has top defenses every year, will have to let their players develop. I, for one, was shocked by that pick. I thought you didn't adress that secondary that you absolutely needed. Sean Smith should have been the pick IMO.

When we traded up I was ridiculously pumped, I thought Gilbert or Smith was gonna be in Purple. When they took Krueger I was a little bummed out, but we will see what Krueger can bring

Yeah I am in the middle when it comes to Kruger. I think ERU's assessment is a bit harsh, but I must admit at present time I am dissapointed with the pick. I am not going to completely write him off because I do think he has the potential to be a good player, but I expect more out of a 2nd rounder than what Kruger did last year.

The wierd thing was we couldnt touch a QB to save our life last year, our pass rush sucked yet he was still there in street clothes. That does make me kind of nervous

If you can get Gaither for a first, I say do it. Yeah he is one of the better young LTs in the game, but it seems like he's going to walk after the season for more money if he doesn't get an extention. Why not get something for that? That way you can work on getting younger on defense by getting pass rushers and secondary help, or more weapons for your franchise QB. Oher will play at a Pro Bowl level at LT and Yanda is underrated.

Hmm, kind of sounds how fans were describing what was going to happen with Suggs last season.

And yes, Yanda is underrated as a GUARD, not a tackle.
