IMO The probowl shouldn't even be a game. None of the players really want to play and with all the restricting rules why even bother? I've never found it fun to watch.. It should just be more skills competitions, those are better than the game anyway..
Is that a stupid idea?

I agree with everyone, this is a really bad idea.

Here's a better idea: do away with the contest entirely. It's pointless.

I don't like the Pro Bowl at all, so I hate this move.

Just kill the pro-bowl. Name a roster and that should be it.

As already mentioned, no Super Bowl teams will have any players at the game, but that is only one of the problems. One of the major reasons for the Pro Bowl in Hawaii has to do with enticing players to come to the Pro Bowl because it is not mandatory. Players get ridiculous comps and bring their families and friends to this game. Watch a record number of alternatives be a part of the game next year.

Yeah, Miami's a nice city and all but c'mon... it's not Hawaii.

They should just turn it into a flag football game. Put the Longsnapper in at QB and the Nosetackle at WR.

Why the **** would he decide to do this? I think it's become clear that the format of the Pro Bowl needs a change, but putting it before the biggest game of the year, without players from the best team in each conference, is a completely ridiculous move. And Miami...really? Who the **** wants to go to Miami?

I can understand this move, really. A big reason why it was such a big joke to everyone, was because it took place right after the biggest game in all of sports. A little anti-climactic, if you ask me. They lose a ton of players every year, so it's not like it'll make a huge difference not to have the 7, 8 players from the Superbowl teams. Besides, they could (or should) allow those players to play in the skills challenges, obviously the ones they feel they could risk as little injury as possible. Anyhow, the fact that people are complaining that they'll lose players is ridiculous. There's at least like ten alternates playing every year, so it's not like it'll be anything new.
With the Pro-Bowl in the week before the Superbowl, it'll give us pro-football fans something to watch in that long wait for the big game.

it seems like Goodell really wants to fix everything...but, he doesn't know how, so he just makes baseless rash decisions. The Pro-Bowl did need fixing. It has become a joke. But, when the problem is injured and tired players opting out, moving the game closer to the season and systematically eliminating representitives from the 2 best teams from competing is NOT the way to fix it. I think he just thinks change for the sake of change is gonna work.
If I were commish, I'd turn the Hall of Fame Game in late July/early August into the Pro Bowl for the previous season. after a long off season, players could be chomping at the bit to get back on the field, and making the first game of the year the Pro Bowl would surely garner more attention than a lame follow up to the Super Bowl.
or, OR, screw the HoF game idea. have the Pro Bowl a week earlier in late July and have a rotation just like the Super Bowl. It'll be in mid-summer so all NFL cities would be eligibile to host, and it wouldn't be the big draw that the Super Bowl is, so ya wouldn't need a state of the art stadium. Just a 32 team rotation to host the Pro Bowl and kick off the pre-season every year.

Would you really let your best players play in a game despite having several months off and risk serious injury to start the season?

it'll just be like another pre-season game. players won't play the whole game, and there would still be the understanding that ya don't need to play full speed.
the problem it would fix would be the anti-climatic nature of the game. Now, the pro bowl comes on the heels of 1 month of the best football of the year. so, nobody cares about a meaningless game. Once July rolls around, football fans are wanting pro football so bad, they almost check out the CFL. If the Pro Bowl were in mid-late July, it would be an event.

Yeah but a preseason game at least benefits your team. Allowing your players to take a week off from the offseason to risk injury(injuries happen at half speed too) in a game that means nothing would be horrible for the team.

they need to get rid of the game entirely. have people elected to it, but don't play the game.
make it like an all pro tag or something.
of course, none of us are businessmen, so it doesn't mean jack what we think.
The bottom line is this: The Pro Bowl brings in more money to the league, and people like more money. Bottom line.
And why move the game? Bc the anticlimatic effect of it doesn't generate as much ratings ie money as it can obtain during the interim week between the conference championships and the SB. putting it in that interim week will generate MUCH higher returns.
thats the whole point of this. its all about the money. what we "think" doesn't mean ****. bc what theyre doing is the smart business move. i wouldve done it too if i were commissioner.

Wow, why the hate for the game? It's a fun little send-off to an NFL season. Part recognition for the better players in the league, part all-star/exhibition game. I thought Hawaii was the perfect setting for the players and their families, but if they rotate sunny/warm locales, that's okay.
But to play it the week before the Super Bowl, that just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. That makes the Pro Bowl even worse, who cares when the Super Bowl is a week away? Maybe it will improve it though, especially if the participating players get into the lead-up to the big game, we'll see.

you love it until one of your players from your team is lost for the next season from injury in a meaningless game.

you can't go by the past to predict the future though. anything can happen at any time. theyre still out there tackling and running into each other.
all it takes is one linemen to fall on another, and that can happen on any snap in any game.
