Derrick Brooks among other cut

We cut Brooks, June, Galloway, Hilliard and Dunn. Well I guess this is the end of an era. Unless we have a huge FA we will blow even harder next year. While Brooks and June were not great last year they were both solid starters for us. Maybe we will be going after Cushing.

The Brooks cut is odd given that he only counted $3M against the cap, we don't need cap relief, and this is the final year of his contract. The new management think he has nothing left in the tank. I know he was a major liablility while dealing with his hamstring injury down the stretch last year, but he didn't look bad in the first half of the season. He'll get a contract with someone if he still wants to play this year.

The news of Brooks being cut absolutely shocked me. We better be big players in the draft and free agency otherwise we are in for a bumpy ride this season.

Why? They've been cutting the fat off the roster all off-seaosn. The new leadership is doing a wonderful job. They haven't gotten any worse than they were in 2008. Seems like they're going with the young & cheap model that the Colts employ with their defense, which is a very smart move. That style of defense is built for younger, more athletic players.

They'll keep any defensive players that will come back on the cheap, and spend heavily on offense. The draft is always filled with defensive players who no one can find a use for except Tampa and Indy, so they really need to start taking advantage of that...

Why? Derrick Brooks is in my opinion the best player the franchise have ever had. To just outright cut him does no respect to the legacy he has created for Tampa Bay.

Finding players that only Tampa and Indy can use? As far as I can tell we are moving away from the smaller/undersized players who are successful in a cover 2 and moving towards a different style.

I can understand if they wanted to cut him, I'm just shocked in the manner they used to do so.

Damn I love Brooks. He gave so much for the team. It's a sad day to see him cut.

I love the blueprint Indy uses. Prioritize the DE and S positions. The rest is interchangeable. I was shocked when we took Talib last year, as it goes against the values and priorities of the defense.

Cutting Derrick Brooks makes no sense on any level. It's just so stupid. Moves like these make it difficult to be a Bucs fan. Galloway, Hilliard and June had it coming. Dunn can be replaced by Clifton Smith. But why Brooks?

I don't like our direction on defense at all.
