Default With the 7th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Oakland Raiders select...

Jason Smith
+
Has made a late rise as scouts have watched more and more game tape. Might be the best offensive lineman in the draft. Seems to have a great attitude towards the position and the game in general. Has played in a blocking scheme that would make his adjustment to Cable’s zone blocking fairly easy.
-
Hasn’t played in a three point stance practically at all. His run blocking ability is a bit of an unknown. Might not be necessary if Mario Henderson can keep his play up.

Eugene Monroe
+
Tremendous athlete with great size. Has just as strong a claim to being the best offensive lineman in the draft as Jason Smith does. When he’s on he’s as good a pass blocker as any in the nation. Top notch blocker down the field. Was Virginia’s most prolific recruit in school history.
-
Isn’t always playing his A-game. Not much to write home about at the point of attack. Can have real problems with finishing his blocks. Might not be necessary if Mario Henderson can keep his play up.

Andre Smith
+
Spectacular run blocker. Good athleticism for his size and great length for his height. Would be a big boost to the run game.
-
A lot of questions about his general common sense and dedication. Not necessarily a lock to be a great left tackle, but could play opposite Henderson and might be a better fit there anyway. Not a fantastic pass blocker. Might be too risky and immature for Oakland to take the risk.

Michael Oher
+
Really quick athlete with strong initial punch. When he’s focused his men tend to go down quickly. Definitely has the athleticism to operate in Oakland’s offense.
-
Has some major inconsistency problems with effort and technique. Is a frustrating player at times.

B.J. Raji
+
Great build for a nosetackle and surprising athleticism. Penetrates well and can disrupt both the pass and the run. Would fill a major need. When he does get proper leverage he’s almost impossible to anchor against.
-
Not as prototypical a nose tackle as his size would indicate. Has a few mechanical quirks that need to be fixed.

Brian Orakpo
+
Really strong athlete for his size. Is a fluid pass rusher who can beat his man with speed or power. Very mobile and tracks the ball down well. Would give be a long term answer at pass rusher.
-
Not very stout/can be run at. More of a one-year wonder than a consistent performer. If he starts opposite Burgess, the gap control at defense would be a huge concern.

Aaron Curry
+
Sensational athlete who made big plays all year. Really strong tackler. Strong in coverage and very good at rushing the edge. One of the best linebacker prospects in years. Would fill the weakest linebacker spot on Oakland’s roster.
-
Not particularly disciplined some of the time. Would be replacing a recently signed Ricky Brown.

Malcolm Jenkins
+
Willing tackler with a lot of schematic versatility. Would likely be placed at free safety considering the current cornerback situation. Has great coverage skills and plays face-up as well as any cornerback prospect in several years. One of the least thrown-at defensive backs in college football.
-
Would lock a large part of the cap into the defensive secondary. Doesn’t have great size for a safety. Much less than great speed. Might be a liability if Oakland continues to run a Cover-0 scheme.

Michael Crabtree
+
Great ball awareness. Brilliant with the ball in his hands after making the catch. Very strong and will fight for the ball. Great hands. Very sudden route runner. Perhaps the most prolific college football receiver ever. Would give Oakland a good sized target who would be dangerous in the short to intermediate pass attack.
-
Played in a scheme that has produced a lot of gaudy numbers for much less talented wideouts. Might have trouble adjusting to the NFL. Has been beaten physically before. Doesn’t always run clean routes. Isn’t much of a deep ball threat. His size and speed ratio isn’t great. Might not have the work ethic to make it in Oakland

Jeremy Maclin
+
Ridiculously productive in college. Stupendous acceleration. Sudden change of direction skills. Better hands that some give him credit for. Can be utilized in a number of ways both on offense and on special teams.
-
Might be a bit redundant with Johnnie Lee Higgins already on the roster. Has taken some flack for missing snaps with small bumps and bruises. Played in an offense that excelled in getting him into open spaces. Not a fantastic wide receiver in the classic sense.

I went with Eugene Monroe...I really don't know tho. I think if we take any of the top 3 OL, Raji, Orakpo or Crabtree we will be bettering our team. Its a crapshoot for me at this point and I don't really have a favorite.

i personaly like so many but honeslty i think we need to focus hard on the offense we need to get this ball rolling for Russell all this money we invested in him and mcfadden we need to put in some more pieces to get something going thats my 2 cents.....but having a dominant NT would be nice too

Good thread, was just about to make it. I voted Raji. Ive fallen in love with this prospect and I think he will be a dominant DT in the NFL. Id be happy with any of the top 3 OT's unless we sign a good one. Crabtree is also a good choice.

I'd like to think they would draft OL/DL but I'm not sure if that will happen.

A.Smith/BJ Raji would be my picks

But I just have a feeling they will go with a WR esp if Crabtree is still there.

I went with who I want to pick, Jason Smith. The only problem is I doubt he's still available at #7. If he's gone I'd prefer Raji, Monroe, Crabtree, or Oher; probably in that order.

I like Raji and Oher but I think Raiders will draft Maclin or trade to 4 and get Crabtree if Al likes him enough.

I voted for Crabtree, if he's there. If not, Smith or Raji. This one will be hard for Al to screw up, we have to many ways we can go with this.

Voted for Crabtree #1

2nd choice would be Andre Smith and if they did pick him he can plugged in at RT.

I don't agree with your questioning of Crabtree's work ethic. The coaches at Texas Tech raved over how hard of a worker he is, both in practice and the offseason workouts.
